Preparation and characterization of interpenetrating phased TCP/HA/PLGA composites
The purpose of this study was to fabricate composites consisting of three interpenetrating networks: tricalcium phosphate (TCP), hydroxyapatite (HA), and poly(DL-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA). The porous TCP network was first produced by coating a polyurethane (PU) foam with hydrolysable alpha-TCP slurry. The HA network was derived from a calcium phosphate cement (CPC) filled in the porous TCP network. The remaining open pore network in the HA/TCP composite was further infiltrated with a PLGA network. The three sets of spatially continuous networks would have different biodegradation rates and thus bone tissue would grow towards the fastest biodegrading network while the remaining networks still maintaining their geometrical shape and carrying the physiological load for the tissue ingrowth
The Impact of COVID-19 on the Ride-Sharing Industry and Its Recovery: Causal Evidence from China
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented disruptions to many industries, and the transportation industry is among the most disrupted ones. We seek to address, in the context of a ride-sharing platform, the response of drivers to the pandemic and the post-pandemic recovery. We collected comprehensive trip data from one of the leading ride-sharing companies in China from September 2019 to August 2020, which cover pre-, during-, and post-pandemic phases in three major Chinese cities, and investigate the causal effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on driver behavior. We find that drivers only slightly reduced their shift decision in response to increased COVID-19 cases, likely because they have to make a living from providing ride-sharing services. Nevertheless, conditional on working, drivers exhibit strong risk aversion: As the number of new cases increases, drivers strategically adjust the scope of search for passengers, complete fewer trips, and as a result, make lower daily earnings. Finally, our heterogeneity analyses indicate that the effects appear to vary both across drivers and over time, with generally stronger effects on drivers who are older, more experienced, more active before the pandemic, and with higher status within the firm. Our findings have strong policy implications: These drivers tend to contribute more to the focal company, and also rely more on providing ride-sharing services to make a living. Therefore, they should be prioritized in stimulus plans offered by the government or the ride-sharing company
Duality Symmetry in Momentum Frame
Siegel's action is generalized to the D=2(p+1) (p even) dimensional
space-time. The investigation of self-duality of chiral p-forms is extended to
the momentum frame, using Siegel's action of chiral bosons in two space-time
dimensions and its generalization in higher dimensions as examples. The whole
procedure of investigation is realized in the momentum space which relates to
the configuration space through the Fourier transformation of fields. These
actions correspond to non-local Lagrangians in the momentum frame. The
self-duality of them with respect to dualization of chiral fields is uncovered.
The relationship between two self-dual tensors in momentum space, whose similar
form appears in configuration space, plays an important role in the
calculation, that is, its application realizes solving algebraically an
integral equation.Comment: 11 pages, no figures, to appear in Phys. Rev.
Coverage Repair Strategies for Wireless Sensor Networks Using Mobile Actor Based on Evolutionary Computing
A standard traveling salesman problem(TSP) under dual-objective strategy constrained is proposed in this paper, characterized by the fact that the demand of both as many as possible the numbers of nodes be visited in time and minimum trajectory distance. The motivation for this TSP problem under dual-objective strategy constrain stems from the coverage repair strategies for wireless sensor networks using mobile actor based on energy analysis, wherein a mobile robot replenishes sensors energy when it reaches the sensor node location. The Evolutionary Algorithm (EA) meta-heuristic elegantly solves this problem by the reasonable designed operators of crossover, mutation and local search strategy, which can accelerate convergence of the optimal solution. The global convergence of the proposed algorithm is proved, and the simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm
Quantisation of 2D-gravity with Weyl and area-preserving diffeomorphism invariances
The constraint structure of 2D-gravity with the Weyl and area-preserving
diffeomorphism invariances is analysed in the ADM formulation. It is found that
when the area-preserving diffeomorphism constraints are kept, the usual
conformal gauge does not exist, whereas there is the possibility to choose the
so-called ``quasi-light-cone'' gauge, in which besides the area-preserving
diffeomorphism invariance, the reduced Lagrangian also possesses the SL(2,R)
residual symmetry. The string-like approach is applied to quantise this model,
but a fictitious non-zero central charge in the Virasoro algebra appears. When
a set of gauge-independent SL(2,R) current-like fields is introduced instead of
the string-like variables, a consistent quantum theory is obtained.Comment: 14 pages, Latex fil
