Contact Interactions and Resonance-Like Physics at Present and Future Colliders from Unparticles
High scale conformal physics can lead to unusual unparticle stuff at our low
energies. In this paper we discuss how the exchange of unparticles between
Standard Model fields can lead to new contact interaction physics as well as a
pseudoresonance-like structure, an unresonance, that might be observable at the
Tevatron or LHC in, e.g., the Drell-Yan channel. The specific signatures of
this scenario are quite unique and can be used to easily identify this new
physics given sufficient integrated luminosity.Comment: 20 pages, 10 figs; minor text changes, ref added; typos correcte
Direct numerical simulations of turbulent flow through a stationary and rotating infinite serpentine passage
Serpentine passages are found in a number of engineering applications including turbine blade cooling passages. The design of effective cooling passages for high-temperature turbine blades depends in part on the ability to predict heat transfer, thus requiring an accurate representation of the turbulent flow field. These passages are subjected to strong curvature and rotational effects, and the resulting turbulent flow field is fairly complex. An understanding of the flow physics for flows with strong curvature and rotation is required in order to improve the design of turbine blade cooling passages. Experimental measurements of certain turbulence quantities for such configurations can be challenging to obtain, especially near solid surfaces, making the serpentine passage an ideal candidate for a direct numerical simulation (DNS). A DNS study has been conducted to investigate the coupled effect of strong curvature and rotation by simulating turbulent flow through a fully developed, smooth wall, round-ended, isothermal serpentine channel subjected to orthogonal mode rotation. The geometry investigated has an average radius of curvature Rc/δ=2.0 in the curved section and dimensions 12πδ×2δ×3πδ in the streamwise, transverse, and spanwise directions. The computational domain consists of periodic inflow/outflow boundaries, two solid wall boundaries, and periodic boundaries in the spanwise direction. The simulations were conducted for Reynolds number, Reb=5600, and rotation numbers, Rob,z=0 and 0.32. Differences observed between the stationary and rotating cases are discussed in terms of the mean velocity, secondary flow, and Reynolds stresses
Influence of blade aerodynamic model on the prediction of helicopter high-frequency airloads
Brown’s vorticity transport model has been used to investigate the influence of the blade aerodynamic model on the accuracy with which the high-frequency airloads associated with helicopter blade–vortex interactions can be predicted. The model yields an accurate representation of the wake structure yet allows significant flexibility in the way that the blade loading can be represented. A simple lifting-line model and a somewhat more sophisticated liftingchord model, based on unsteady thin aerofoil theory, are compared. A marked improvement in the accuracy of the predicted high-frequency airloads of the higher harmonic control aeroacoustic rotor is obtained when the liftingchord model is used instead of the lifting-line approach, and the quality of the prediction is affected less by the computational resolution of the wake. The lifting-line model overpredicts the amplitude of the lift response to blade–vortex interactions as the computational grid is refined, exposing the fundamental deficiencies in this approach when modeling the aerodynamic response of the blade to interactions with vortices that are much smaller than its chord. The airloads that are predicted using the lifting-chord model are relatively insensitive to the resolution of the computation, and there are fundamental reasons to believe that properly converged numerical solutions may be attainable using this approach
Unparticles-Higgs Interplay
We show that scalar unparticles coupled to the Standard Model Higgs at the
renormalizable level can have a dramatic impact in the breaking of the
electroweak symmetry already at tree level. In particular one can get the
proper electroweak scale without the need of a Higgs mass term in the
Lagrangian. By studying the mixed unparticle-Higgs propagator and spectral
function we also show how unparticles can shift the Higgs mass away from its
Standard Model value, \lambda v^2, and influence other Higgs boson properties.
Conversely, we study in some detail how electroweak symmetry breaking affects
the unparticle sector by breaking its conformal symmetry and generating a mass
gap. We also show that, for Higgs masses above that gap, unparticles can
increase quite significantly the Higgs width.Comment: 14 pages, 7 figures, typos correcte

Constraints on Astro-unparticle Physics from SN 1987A
SN 1987A observations have been used to place constraints on the interactions
between standard model particles and unparticles. In this study we calculate
the energy loss from the supernovae core through scalar, pseudo scalar, vector,
pseudo vector unparticle emission from nuclear bremsstrahlung for degenerate
nuclear matter interacting through one pion exchange. In order to examine the
constraints on we considered the emission of scalar, pseudo
scalar, vector, pseudo vector and tensor through the pair annihilation process
. In addition we have re-examined other pair
annihilation processes. The most stringent bounds on the dimensionless coupling
constants for and are obtained from
nuclear bremsstrahlung process for the pseudo scalar and pseudo-vector
couplings and for
tensor interaction, the best limit on dimensionless coupling is obtained from
and we get .Comment: 12 pages, 2 postscript figure
Top pair Asymmetries at Hadron colliders with general couplings
Recently it has been shown that measurement of charge asymmetry of top pair
production at LHC excludes any flavor violating vector gauge boson that
could explain Tevatron forward-backward asymmetry (FBA). We consider the
general form of a gauge boson including left-handed, right-handed vector
and tensor couplings to examine FBA and charge asymmetry. To evaluate top pair
asymmetries at Tevatron and LHC, we consider mixing constraints on
flavor changing couplings and show that this model still explain
forward-backward asymmetry at Tevatron and charge asymmetry can not exclude it
in part of parameters space.Comment: 18 pages, 7 figure
New Physics in Bs -> J/psi phi: a General Analysis
Recently, the CDF and D0 collaborations measured indirect CP violation in Bs
-> J/psi phi and found a hint of a signal. If taken at face value, this can be
interpreted as a nonzero phase of Bs-Bsbar mixing (beta_s), in disagreement
with the standard model, which predicts that beta_s ~= 0. In this paper, we
argue that this analysis may be incomplete. In particular, there can be new
physics (NP) in the bbar -> sbar c cbar decay. If so, the value of beta_s is
different than for the case in which NP is assumed to be present only in the
mixing. We have examined several models of NP and found that, indeed, there can
be significant contributions to the decay. These effects are consistent with
measurements in B -> J/psi K* and Bd -> J/psi Ks. Due to the NP in the decay,
polarization-dependent indirect CP asymmetries and triple-product asymmetries
are predicted in Bs -> J/psi phi.Comment: 28 pages, JHEP, no figures. Considerable changes made. Abstract and

Top A_FB at the Tevatron vs. charge asymmetry at the LHC in chiral U(1) flavor models with flavored Higgs doublets
We consider the top forward-backward (FB) asymmetry at the Tevatron and top
charge asymmetry at the LHC within chiral U(1)^\prime models with
flavor-dependent U(1)^\prime charges and flavored Higgs fields, which were
introduced in the ref. [65]. The models could enhance not only the top
forward-backward asymmetry at Tevatron, but also the top charge asymmetry at
LHC, without too large same-sign top pair production rates. We identify
parameter spaces for the U(1)^\prime gauge boson and (pseudo)scalar Higgs
bosons where all the experimental data could be accommodated, including the
case with about 125 GeV Higgs boson, as suggested recently by ATLAS and CMS.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures, figures and discussion adde
Top quark forward-backward asymmetry in R-parity violating supersymmetry
The interaction of bottom squark-mediated top quark pair production,
occurring in the R-parity violating minimal supersymmetric standard model
(MSSM), is proposed as an explanation of the anomalously large
forward-backward asymmetry (FBA) observed at the Tevatron. We find that this
model can give a good fit to top quark data, both the inclusive and invariant
mass-dependent asymmetries, while remaining consistent (at the 2-
level) with the total and differential production cross-sections. The scenario
is challenged by strong constraints from atomic parity violation (APV), but we
point out an extra diagram for the effective down quark-Z vertex, involving the
same coupling constant as required for the FBA, which tends to weaken the APV
constraint, and which can nullify it for reasonable values of the top squark
masses and mixing angle. Large contributions to flavor-changing neutral
currents can be avoided if only the third generation of sparticles is light.Comment: 24 pages, 7 figures. v3: included LHC top production cross section
