    Graph Neural Networks Boosted Personalized Tag Recommendation Algorithm

    Personalized tag recommender systems recommend a set of tags for items based on users’ historical behaviors, and play an important role in the collaborative tagging systems. However, traditional personalized tag recommendation methods cannot guarantee that the collaborative signal hidden in the interactions among entities is effectively encoded in the process of learning the representations of entities, resulting in insufficient expressive capacity for characterizing the preferences or attributes of entities. In this paper, we proposed a graph neural networks boosted personalized tag recommendation model, which integrates the graph neural networks into the pairwise interaction tensor factorization model. Specifically, we consider two types of interaction graph (i.e. the user-tag interaction graph and the item-tag interaction graph) that is derived from the tag assignments. For each interaction graph, we exploit the graph neural networks to capture the collaborative signal that is encoded in the interaction graph and integrate the collaborative signal into the learning of representations of entities by transmitting and assembling the representations of entity neighbors along the interaction graphs. In this way, we explicitly capture the collaborative signal, resulting in rich and meaningful representations of entities. Experimental results on real world datasets show that our proposed graph neural networks boosted personalized tag recommendation model outperforms the traditional tag recommendation models

    Short-term effects of intravenous batroxobin in treatment of sudden sensorineural hearing loss: a propensity score-matched study

    BackgroundSudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) can cause great panic in patients. Whether it is advantageous to add intravenous batroxobin in the treatment of SSNHL remains to be determined. This study aimed to compare the short-term efficacy of therapy combined with intravenous batroxobin and that without intravenous batroxobin in SSNHL patients.MethodsThis retrospective study harvested the data of SSNHL patients hospitalized in our department from January 2008 to April 2021. The hearing levels on the admitted day (before treatment) and the discharge day were considered pre-treatment hearing and post-treatment hearing, respectively. The hearing gain was the difference value of pre-treatment hearing and post-treatment hearing. We used Siegel's criteria and the Chinese Medical Association of Otolaryngology (CMAO) criteria to evaluate hearing recovery. The complete recovery rate, overall effective rate, and hearing gain at each frequency were considered outcomes. Propensity score matching (PSM) was conducted to balance the baseline characteristics between the batroxobin group and the non-batroxobin group. Sensitivity analysis was carried out in flat-type and total-deafness SSNHL patients.ResultsDuring the study period, 657 patients with SSNHL were admitted to our department. Among them, a total of 274 patients met the enrolled criteria of our study. After PSM, 162 patients (81 in each group) were included in the analysis. Once the hospitalized treatment was completed, the patients would be discharged the next day. Logistic regression analysis of the propensity score-matched cohort indicated that both the complete recovery rates [Siegel's criteria, OR: 0.734, 95% CI: 0.368–1.466, p = 0.381; CMAO criteria, OR: 0.879, 95% CI: 0.435–1.777, p = 0.720] and the overall effective rates [Siegel's criteria and CMAO criteria, OR: 0.741, 95% CI: 0.399–1.378, p = 0.344] were not significantly different between the two treatment groups. Sensitivity analysis has shown similar results. For flat-type and total-deafness SSNHL patients, no significant difference was found in post-treatment hearing gain at each frequency between the two groups after PSM.ConclusionThere was no significant difference in short-term hearing outcomes between treatment with batroxobin and treatment without batroxobin in SSNHL patients by Siegel's and CMAO criteria after PSM. Future studies for better therapy regimens of SSNHL are still needed

    Effect of drying temperature on structural and thermomechanical properties of konjac glucomannan-zein blend films

    Konjac glucomannan (KGM)/zein blend films were successfully prepared by solution casting at different drying temperatures (40, 50, 60, 70 and 80 °C). The effects of drying temperature on the films' structural, thermomechanical, mechanical and water barrier properties were investigated. Microstructural observations indicated that zein particles were homogeneously dispersed in KGM continuous matrix, and the blend film dried at 60 °C showed the most compact and smooth surface. Dynamic mechanical thermal analysis curves showed that with increasing drying temperature from 40 to 60 °C, glass transition temperature (Tg) of films increased; however, with further increase in temperature, the Tg decreased, indicating the compatibility of film components was the highest when dried at 60 °C. The hydrophobicity of blend film dried at 60 °C was significantly stronger than that of other blend films, supported by the highest water contact angle, and the lowest swelling ratio and solubility. Moreover, the film dried at 60 °C showed the highest tensile strength, elongation at break, and the lowest water vapor permeability. Therefore 60 °C was preferred for KGM/zein blend film preparation. This study indicated that intermolecular interactions among film components were greatly influenced by the drying temperature, and should be carefully noticed for film preparation

    Fabrication and characterization of a novel konjac glucomannan-based air filtration aerogels strengthened by wheat straw and okara

    The konjac glucomannan (KGM)-based aerogel as an air filtration material was fabricated through sol-gel and freeze-drying methods. Results showed that gelatin and starch addition could increase the filtration efficiency and compressive strength of aerogel significantly, due to the appearance of more microporous structure and the formation of dense structure in aerogel. The addition of wheat straw could decrease the filtration resistance and increase the breathability of KGM-based aerogel, which was attributed to the multi-cavities of wheat straw. The aerogel with wheat straw had a filtration efficiency of 93.54% for particle matters ≥ 0.3 μm, a filtration resistance 29 Pa, and an air permeability 271.42 L/s·m2. Okara addition could increase the hydrophobicity of KGM-based aerogel by increasing the water contact angle and decreasing the equilibrium water content. The water contact angle of the aerogel containing okara reached 105.4°, and the equilibrium water content was decreased by 17.03%–81.10% compared with that without okara, with relative humidity 0%–80%. The results demonstrated that the KGM-based aerogel had good performance on filtration, mechanical and hydrophobic properties, indicating high potential application as an air filtration material

    Genome-wide characterization of the biggest grass, bamboo, based on 10,608 putative full-length cDNA sequences

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>With the availability of rice and sorghum genome sequences and ongoing efforts to sequence genomes of other cereal and energy crops, the grass family (Poaceae) has become a model system for comparative genomics and for better understanding gene and genome evolution that underlies phenotypic and ecological divergence of plants. While the genomic resources have accumulated rapidly for almost all major lineages of grasses, bamboo remains the only large subfamily of Poaceae with little genomic information available in databases, which seriously hampers our ability to take a full advantage of the wealth of grass genomic data for effective comparative studies.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Here we report the cloning and sequencing of 10,608 putative full length cDNAs (FL-cDNAs) primarily from Moso bamboo, <it>Phyllostachys heterocycla </it>cv. <it>pubescens</it>, a large woody bamboo with the highest ecological and economic values of all bamboos. This represents the third largest FL-cDNA collection to date of all plant species, and provides the first insight into the gene and genome structures of bamboos. We developed a Moso bamboo genomic resource database that so far contained the sequences of 10,608 putative FL-cDNAs and nearly 38,000 expressed sequence tags (ESTs) generated in this study.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Analysis of FL-cDNA sequences show that bamboo diverged from its close relatives such as rice, wheat, and barley through an adaptive radiation. A comparative analysis of the lignin biosynthesis pathway between bamboo and rice suggested that genes encoding caffeoyl-CoA O-methyltransferase may serve as targets for genetic manipulation of lignin content to reduce pollutants generated from bamboo pulping.</p

    Classification related to immunogenic cell death predicts prognosis, immune microenvironment characteristics, and response to immunotherapy in lower-grade gliomas

    BackgroundImmunogenic cell death (ICD) is a form of cell death that elicits immune responses against the antigens found in dead or dying tumor cells. Growing evidence implies that ICD plays a significant role in triggering antitumor immunity. The prognosis for glioma remains poor despite many biomarkers being reported, and identifying ICD-related biomarkers is imminent for better-personalized management in patients with lower-grade glioma (LGG).Materials and methodsWe identified ICD-related differentially expressed genes (DEGs) by comparing gene expression profiles obtained across Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx) and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) cohorts. On the foundation of ICD-related DEGs, two ICD-related clusters were identified through consensus clustering. Then, survival analysis, functional enrichment analysis, somatic mutation analysis, and immune characteristics analysis were performed in the two ICD-related subtypes. Additionally, we developed and validated a risk assessment signature for LGG patients. Finally, we selected one gene (EIF2AK3) from the above risk model for experimental validation.Results32 ICD-related DEGs were screened, dividing the LGG samples from the TCGA database into two distinct subtypes. The ICD-high subgroup showed worse overall survival (OS), greater immune infiltration, more active immune response process, and higher expression levels of HLA genes than the ICD-low subgroup. Additionally, nine ICD-related DEGs were identified to build the prognostic signature, which was highly correlated with the tumor-immune microenvironment and could unambiguously be taken as an independent prognostic factor and further verified in an external dataset. The experimental results indicated that EIF2AK3 expression was higher in tumors than paracancerous tissues, and high-expression EIF2AK3 was enriched in WHO III and IV gliomas by qPCR and IHC, and Knockdown of EIF2AK3 suppressed cell viability and mobility in glioma cells.ConclusionWe established novel ICD-related subtypes and risk signature for LGG, which may be beneficial to improving clinical outcome prediction and guiding individualized immunotherapy
