NPRF: A Neural Pseudo Relevance Feedback Framework for Ad-hoc Information Retrieval
Pseudo-relevance feedback (PRF) is commonly used to boost the performance of
traditional information retrieval (IR) models by using top-ranked documents to
identify and weight new query terms, thereby reducing the effect of
query-document vocabulary mismatches. While neural retrieval models have
recently demonstrated strong results for ad-hoc retrieval, combining them with
PRF is not straightforward due to incompatibilities between existing PRF
approaches and neural architectures. To bridge this gap, we propose an
end-to-end neural PRF framework that can be used with existing neural IR models
by embedding different neural models as building blocks. Extensive experiments
on two standard test collections confirm the effectiveness of the proposed NPRF
framework in improving the performance of two state-of-the-art neural IR
models.Comment: Full paper in EMNLP 201
Text Data-Centric Image Captioning with Interactive Prompts
Supervised image captioning approaches have made great progress, but it is
challenging to collect high-quality human-annotated image-text data. Recently,
large-scale vision and language models (e.g., CLIP) and large-scale generative
language models (e.g., GPT-2) have shown strong performances in various tasks,
which also provide some new solutions for image captioning with web paired
data, unpaired data or even text-only data. Among them, the mainstream solution
is to project image embeddings into the text embedding space with the
assistance of consistent representations between image-text pairs from the CLIP
model. However, the current methods still face several challenges in adapting
to the diversity of data configurations in a unified solution, accurately
estimating image-text embedding bias, and correcting unsatisfactory prediction
results in the inference stage. This paper proposes a new Text data-centric
approach with Interactive Prompts for image Captioning, named TIPCap. 1) We
consider four different settings which gradually reduce the dependence on
paired data. 2) We construct a mapping module driven by multivariate Gaussian
distribution to mitigate the modality gap, which is applicable to the above
four different settings. 3) We propose a prompt interaction module that can
incorporate optional prompt information before generating captions. Extensive
experiments show that our TIPCap outperforms other weakly or unsupervised image
captioning methods and achieves a new state-of-the-art performance on two
widely used datasets, i.e., MS-COCO and Flickr30K
Validation of 7 Years in-Flight HY-2A Calibration Microwave Radiometer Products Using Numerical Weather Model and Radiosondes
Haiyang-2A (HY-2A) has been working in-flight for over seven years, and the accuracy of HY-2A calibration microwave radiometer (CMR) data is extremely important for the wet troposphere delay correction (WTC) in sea surface height (SSH) determination. We present a comprehensive evaluation of the HY-2A CMR observation using the numerical weather model (NWM) for all the data available period from October 2011 to February 2018, including the WTC and the precipitable water vapor (PWV). The ERA(ECMWF Re-Analysis)-Interim products from European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) are used for the validation of HY-2A WTC and PWV products. In general, a global agreement of root-mean-square (RMS) of 2.3 cm in WTC and 3.6 mm in PWV are demonstrated between HY-2A observation and ERA-Interim products. Systematic biases are revealed where before 2014 there was a positive WTC/PWV bias and after that, a negative one. Spatially, HY-2A CMR products show a larger bias in polar regions compared with mid-latitude regions and tropical regions and agree better in the Antarctic than in the Arctic with NWM. Moreover, HY-2A CMR products have larger biases in the coastal area, which are all caused by the brightness temperature (TB) contamination from land or sea ice. Temporally, the WTC/PWV biases increase from October 2011 to March 2014 with a systematic bias over 1 cm in WTC and 2 mm in PWV, and the maximum RMS values of 4.62 cm in WTC and 7.61 mm in PWV occur in August 2013, which is because of the unsuitable retrieval coefficients and systematic TB measurements biases from 37 GHz band. After April 2014, the TB bias is corrected, HY-2A CMR products agree very well with NWM from April 2014 to May 2017 with the average RMS of 1.68 cm in WTC and 2.65 mm in PWV. However, since June 2017, TB measurements from the 18.7 GHz band become unstable, which led to the huge differences between HY-2A CMR products and the NWM with an average RMS of 2.62 cm in WTC and 4.33 mm in PWV. HY-2A CMR shows high accuracy when three bands work normally and further calibration for HY-2A CMR is in urgent need. Furtherly, 137 global coastal radiosonde stations were used to validate HY-2A CMR. The validation based on radiosonde data shows the same variation trend in time of HY-2A CMR compared to the results from ECMWF, which verifies the results from ECMWF
An in-depth study on the magnetic resonance imaging characteristics of tendon rupture in sports injuries and its correlation with patients' clinical symptoms
Muscle injuries, such as Achilles and quadriceps tendon ruptures, pose a significant challenge in elite sports, accounting for more than 30% of all sports-related injuries. Our primary goal is to investigate the MR imaging characteristics of tendon rupture in sports injuries and their relationship with patients' clinical symptoms. In our retrospective study at Zhejiang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine's Second Affiliated Hospital (Zhejiang Xinhua Hospital), we compared the clinical presentation and MRI results of 106 patients with isolated AT and QT ruptures. In the AT, the enthesis was identified as a common site of bony avulsions (30.2%). In contrast, insertional ruptures were more common in the gastrocnemius heads (69.8% and 66.0%). The low frequency of mid-substance tears (13.2% to 20.8%) demonstrated the central tendon region's inherent tensile strength. The ruptured musculotendinous junctions affected the soleus (20.8%). In QT, bony avulsions play a minor role (5.1% to 11.3%). The patella was the primary site of tears (42.2% - 45.3%), with the Vastus intermedius favoring proximal tears (58.5%). Our examination of AT and QT ruptures across sub-components sheds light on their distinct patterns and the implications for clinical practice in terms of precise diagnosis, personalized treatment, and, ultimately, better patient outcomes for these debilitating injuries
A Systematic Approach for Inertial Sensor Calibration of Gravity Recovery Satellites and Its Application to Taiji-1 Mission
High-precision inertial sensors or accelerometers can provide us references
of free-falling motions in gravitational field in space. They serve as the key
payloads for gravity recovery missions such as the CHAMP, the GRACE-type
missions, and the planned Next Generation Gravity Missions. In this work, a
systematic method of electrostatic inertial sensor calibrations for gravity
recovery satellites is suggested, which is applied to and verified with the
Taiji-1 mission. With this method, the complete operating parameters including
the scale factors, the center of mass offset vector and the intrinsic biased
acceleration can be precisely calibrated with only two sets of short-term
in-orbit experiments. Taiji-1 is the first technology demonstration satellite
of the "Taiji Program in Space", which, in its final extended phase in 2022,
could be viewed as operating in the mode of a high-low satellite-to-satellite
tracking gravity mission. Based on the calibration principles, swing maneuvers
with time span about 200 s and rolling maneuvers for 19 days were conducted by
Taiji-1 in 2022. The inertial sensor's operating parameters are precisely
re-calibrated with Kalman filters and are updated to the Taiji-1 science team.
Data from one of the sensitive axis is re-processed with the updated operating
parameters, and the performance is found to be slightly improved compared with
former results. This approach could be of high reference value for the
accelerometer or inertial sensor calibrations of the GFO, the Chinese
GRACE-type mission, and the Next Generation Gravity Missions. This could also
shed some light on the in-orbit calibrations of the ultra-precision inertial
sensors for future GW space antennas because of the technological inheritance
between these two generations of inertial sensors.Comment: 24 pages, 19 figure
Validating HY-2A CMR precipitable water vapor using ground-based and shipborne GNSS observations
The calibration microwave radiometer (CMR) on board the Haiyang-2A (HY-2A) satellite provides wet tropospheric delay correction for altimetry data, which can also contribute to the understanding of climate system and weather processes. The ground-based global navigation satellite system (GNSS) provides precise precipitable water vapor (PWV) with high temporal resolution and could be used for calibration and monitoring of the CMR data, and shipborne GNSS provides accurate PWV over open oceans, which can be directly compared with uncontaminated CMR data. In this study, the HY-2A CMR water vapor product is validated using ground-based GNSS observations of 100 International GNSS Service (IGS) stations along the global coastline and 56 d shipborne GNSS observations over the Indian Ocean. The processing strategy for GNSS data and CMR data is discussed in detail. Special efforts were made in the quality control and reconstruction of contaminated CMR data. The validation result shows that HY-2A CMR PWV agrees well with ground-based GNSS PWV with 2.67 mm as the root mean square (rms) within 100 km. Geographically, the rms is 1.12 mm in the polar region and 2.78 mm elsewhere. The PWV agreement between HY-2A and shipborne GNSS shows a significant correlation with the distance between the ship and the satellite footprint, with an rms of 1.57 mm for the distance threshold of 100 km. Ground-based GNSS and shipborne GNSS agree with HY-2A CMR well
Palaeosedimentary Environment and Formation Mechanism of High-Quality Xujiahe Source Rocks, Sichuan Basin, South China
AbstractTriassic Xujiahe source rocks, the main gas source of shallow tight gas, are the most typical continental coal-bearing source rocks in the Sichuan Basin, South China. However, the organic matter enrichment section cannot be identified easily, leading to limited progress in the exploration of coal-bearing tight gas. This paper reveals the main controlling factors of the organic matter enrichment, reconstructs the evolution process of the Xujiahe palaeosedimentary environment, proposes a dynamic enrichment mechanism of the organic matter, and determines the organic matter enrichment section of the high-quality coal-bearing source rocks by geochemical characteristics of the source rocks, major elements, and trace elements. The results show that the Xujiahe sedimentary environment can be divided into a fluctuating stage of transitional sedimentation, stable stage of transitional sedimentation, fluctuating stage of continental sedimentation, and stable stage of continental sedimentation. The Xujiahe source rocks were featured with high-quality coal-bearing source rocks with high total organic carbon and maturity and good parent material in the stable stage of transitional sedimentation and fluctuating stage of continental sedimentation, in which the water was connected with the Palaeo-Tethys Ocean with abundant terrestrial organisms. The water was shallow in the fluctuating stage of transitional sedimentation with a low sedimentation rate, leading to poor organic matter enrichment. The Palaeo-Tethys Ocean withdrew westward from the Yangtze plate in the late period of the fluctuating stage of continental sedimentation, leading to the absence of algae and dinosteranes and a decrease in biological productivity in the stable stage of continental sedimentation. Therefore, high terrestrial inputs and biological productivity and high sedimentation rate were conducive to the organic matter preservation in the coal-bearing source rocks
