The high temperature creep deformation of Si3N4-6Y2O3-2Al2O3

    Get PDF
The creep properties of silicon nitride containing 6 wt percent yttria and 2 wt percent alumina have been determined in the temperature range 1573 to 1673 K. The stress exponent, n, in the equation epsilon dot varies as sigma sup n, was determined to be 2.00 + or - 0.15 and the true activation energy was found to be 692 + or - 25 kJ/mol. Transmission electron microscopy studies showed that deformation occurred in the grain boundary glassy phase accompanied by microcrack formation and cavitation. The steady state creep results are consistent with a diffusion controlled creep mechanism involving nitrogen diffusion through the grain boundary glassy phase

    Review of the "Bottom-Up" scenario

Thermalization of a longitudinally expanding color glass condensate with Bjorken boost invariant geometry is investigated within parton cascade BAMPS. Our main focus lies on the detailed comparison of thermalization, observed in BAMPS with that suggested in the Bottom-Up scenario. We demonstrate that the tremendous production of soft gluons via gg→ggggg \to ggg, which is shown in the Bottom-Up picture as the dominant process during the early preequilibration, will not occur in heavy ion collisions at RHIC and LHC energies, because the back reaction ggg→ggggg\to gg hinders the absolute particle multiplication. Moreover, contrary to the Bottom-Up scenario, soft and hard gluons thermalize at the same time. The time scale of thermal equilibration in BAMPS calculations is of order \as^{-2} (\ln \as)^{-2} Q_s^{-1}. After this time the gluon system exhibits nearly hydrodynamic behavior. The shear viscosity to entropy density ratio has a weak dependence on QsQ_s and lies close to the lower bound of the AdS/CFT conjecture.Comment: Quark Matter 2008 Proceeding

    Level-rank duality via tensor categories

We give a new way to derive branching rules for the conformal embedding (\asl_n)_m\oplus(\asl_m)_n\subset(\asl_{nm})_1. In addition, we show that the category \Cc(\asl_n)_m^0 of degree zero integrable highest weight (\asl_n)_m-representations is braided equivalent to \Cc(\asl_m)_n^0 with the reversed braiding.Comment: 16 pages, to appear in Communications in Mathematical Physics. The power spectrum of galaxies in the 2dF 100k redshift survey

We compute the real-space power spectrum and the redshift-space distortions of galaxies in the 2dF 100k galaxy redshift survey using pseudo-Karhunen-Loeve eigenmodes and the stochastic bias formalism. Our results agree well with those published by the 2dFGRS team, and have the added advantage of producing easy-to-interpret uncorrelated minimum-variance measurements of the galaxy-galaxy, galaxy-velocity and velocity-velocity power spectra in 27 k-bands, with narrow and well-behaved window functions in the range 0.01h/Mpc < k < 0.8h/Mpc. We find no significant detection of baryonic wiggles, although our results are consistent with a standard flat Omega_Lambda=0.7 ``concordance'' model and previous tantalizing hints of baryonic oscillations. We measure the galaxy-matter correlation coefficient r > 0.4 and the redshift-distortion parameter beta=0.49+/-0.16 for r=1 (beta=0.47+/- 0.16 without finger-of-god compression). Since this is an apparent-magnitude limited sample, luminosity-dependent bias may cause a slight red-tilt in the power spectum. A battery of systematic error tests indicate that the survey is not only impressive in size, but also unusually clean, free of systematic errors at the level to which our tests are sensitive. Our measurements and window functions are available at http://www.hep.upenn.edu/~max/2df.html together with the survey mask, radial selection function and uniform subsample of the survey that we have constructed.Comment: Replaced to match accepted MNRAS version, with new radial/angular systematics plot and sigma8 typo corrected.
