The Role of Personal Therapy for Chinese-Speaking Music Therapy Students: A Survey
The purpose of this study is to understand the perceptions of Chinese-speaking music therapy students on cultural transition and personal therapy and to determine what impact these have on their learning process. An online questionnaire surveyed 13 Chinese-speaking music therapy students. Nine completed responses were analyzed by using both quantitative and qualitative methods. The questions focused on their demographic information, their attitudes toward personal therapy, and their attitudes toward the cultural transition process. The study found that 78% of participants sought any type of therapy and 55% of participants believe that personal therapy is extremely important for music therapy students. No one stated feeling stigmatized for receiving personal therapy. In addition, 89% of participants reported they had talked about their cultural transition process with others and believe personal therapy can help them adjust culturally in the United States. This study may provide valuable insights for school instructors, clinical supervisors, and personal therapists to improve their understanding and awareness about the struggles of Chinese-speaking music therapy students and the cultural transition process. This may also have positive effects on personal and professional growth for Chinese-speaking music therapy students

Quinolinone inhibits proliferation of gastric cancer cells and induces their apoptosis via down-regulation of the expression of pro-oncogene c-Myc
Purpose: To determine the anti-proliferative potential of quinolinone against gastric cancer cells, and the underlying mechanism of action.Methods: Quinolinone-mediated proliferative changes were measured using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay, while its effect on apoptosis was determined by flow cytometry. Transwell and wound healing assays were used for the determination of the effect of quinolinone on cell invasion and migration. The effect of quinolinone on protein expression levels were assayed with western blotting.Results: Quinolinone caused reduction in gastric cancer cell viability, but it had no effect on normal (GES-1) cells. Treatment with 8 ΞΌM quinolinone reduced the viability of SNU-5 and SGC-7901 cells to 32 and 27 %, respectively. Moreover, 8 ΞΌM quinolinone induced 67.90 and 71.54 % apoptosis in SNU-5 and SGC-7901 cells, respectively. Quinolinone significantly increased the population of cells in G1 phase, and suppressed migration potential (p < 0.05). Furthermore, in quinolinone-treated cells, the expression levels of p-PI3K, c-Myc and p-AKT were much lower than those in untreated cells (p < 0.05). Quinolinone also downregulated the expressions of MMP-2 and MMP-9, while it upregulated p21 expression in SNU-5 and SGC-7901 cells.Conclusion: Quinolinone suppresses the growth of SNU-5 and SGC-7901 gastric cancer cells via cell cycle arrest, induction of apoptosis and downregulation of the expressions of c-Myc and metalloproteinases. Thus, quinolinone may be developed as a potential drug candidate for the treatment of gastric cancer.

Paradoxical constitutive law between donor O-H bond length and its stretching frequency in water dimer
The constitutive laws of hydrogen bonds (H-bonds) are central to
understanding microphysical processes not precisely observed, especially in
terms of structural properties. Previous experiences in water H-bonding
revealed that as the intermolecular O...O distance shortens, the O-H stretching
frequency redshifts; thus, an elongated O-H bond length can be empirically
inferred, which is described as the constitutive law under the cooperative
effect. Here, using the high-precision CCSD(T) method, we report a violation of
the conventional constitutive law in water dimer. That is, when the variation
in the O...O distance changes from stretching by 0.06 to contracting by -0.15
angstrom compared to the equilibrium position, the donor O-H bond length
decreases from 0.9724 to 0.9717 angstrom, and the O-H stretching frequency
redshifts from 3715 to 3708 cm-1. Our work highlights that the O-H bond length
decreases simultaneously with its stretching frequency, which is clearly
inconsistent with the previously recognized constitutive law.Comment: 10 pages, 2 figure
