Reconstruction of 5D5D Cosmological Models From Equation of State of Dark Energy

We consider a class of five-dimensional cosmological solutions which contains two arbitrary function μ(t)\mu(t) and ν(t)\nu(t). We found that the arbitrary function μ(t)\mu(t) contained in the solutions can be rewritten in terms of the redshift zz as a new arbitrary function f(z)f(z). We further showed that this new arbitrary function f(z)f(z) could be solved out for four known parameterized equations of state of dark energy. Then the 5D5D models can be reconstructed and the evolution of the density and deceleration parameters of the universe can be determined.Comment: 10 pages, 4 eps figures, ws-ijmpd.cls styl

Methological quality of systematic reviews and meta-analyses on acupuncture for stroke: a review of review

    Get PDF
Objective: To assess the methodological quality of systematic reviews and meta-analyses regarding acupuncture intervention for stroke and the primary studies within them. Methods: Two researchers searched PubMed, Cumulative index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Embase, ISI Web of Knowledge, Cochrane, Allied and Complementary Medicine, Ovid Medline, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang and Traditional Chinese Medical Database to identify systematic reviews and meta-analyses about acupuncture for stroke published from the inception to December 2016. Review characteristics and the criteria for assessing the primary studies within reviews were extracted. The methodological quality of the reviews was assessed using adapted Oxman and Guyatt Scale. The methodological quality of primary studies was also assessed. Results: Thirty-two eligible reviews were identified, 15 in English and 17 in Chinese. The English reviews were scored higher than the Chinese reviews (P=0.025), especially in criteria for avoiding bias and the scope of search. All reviews used the quality criteria to evaluate the methodological quality of primary studies, but some criteria were not comprehensive. The primary studies, in particular the Chinese reviews, had problems with randomization, allocation concealment, blinding, dropouts and withdrawals, intent-to-treat analysis and adverse events. Conclusions: Important methodological flaws were found in Chinese systematic reviews and primary studies. It was necessary to improve the methodological quality and reporting quality of both the systematic reviews published in China and primary studies on acupuncture for stroke

1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 promotes osseointegration of titanium implant via downregulating AGEs/RAGE pathway in T2DM

Diabetes-induced advanced glycation end products (AGEs) overproduction would result in compromised osseointegration of titanium implant and high rate of implantation failure. 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1,25VD3) plays a vital role in osteogenesis, whereas its effects on the osseointegration and the underlying mechanism are unclear. The purpose of this study was to investigate that 1,25VD3 might promote the defensive ability of osseointegration through suppressing AGEs/RAGE in type 2 diabetes mellitus. In animal study, streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats accepted implant surgery, with or without 1,25VD3 intervention for 12 weeks. After killing, the serum AGEs level, bone microarchitecture and biomechanical index of rats were measured systematically. In vitro study, osteoblasts differentiation capacity was analyzed by alizarin red staining, alkaline phosphatase assay and Western blotting, after treatment with BSA, AGEs, AGEs with RAGE inhibitor and AGEs with 1,25VD3. And the expression of RAGE protein was detected to explore the mechanism. Results showed that 1,25VD3 could reverse the impaired osseointegration and mechanical strength, which possibly resulted from the increased AGEs. Moreover, 1,25VD3 could ameliorate AGEs-induced damage of cell osteogenic differentiation, as well as downregulating the RAGE expression. These data may provide a theoretical basis that 1,25VD3 could work as an adjuvant treatment against poor osseointegration in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus

The advection-dominated accretion flow+thin accretion disk model for two low-luminosity active galactic nuclei: M81 and NGC4579

It was found that the advection-dominated accretion flow (ADAF)+thin disk model calculations can reproduce the observed spectral energy distributions (SED) of the two low luminosity AGN, provided they are accreting at ~0.01-0.03 Eddington rates and the thin disks are truncated to ADAFs at ~100 R_s (Schwarzschild radii) for M81 and NGC4579 (Quataert et al., 1999). However, the black hole masses adopted in their work are about one order of magnitude lower than recent measurements on these two sources. Adopting the well estimated black hole masses, our ADAF+thin disk model calculations can reproduce the observed SEDs of these two LLAGN, if the black hole is accreting at 2.5e-4 Eddington rates with the thin disk truncated at 120 R_s for M81 (3.3e-3 and R_tr = 80R_s are required for NGC4579). The observed widths of the thermal X-ray iron lines at 6.8 keV are consistent with the Doppler broadening by the Keplerian motion of the gases in the transition zones at ~100R_s. The observed thermal X-ray lines provide a useful diagnosis on the physical properties of the transition zones. We calculate the thermal X-ray line emission from the transition zone between the ADAF and the thin disk with standard software package Astrophysical Plasma Emission Code (APEC), and the physical implications on the models of the transition zones are discussed.Comment: 10 pages, 2 figures, accepted by ChJA

A pyrenyl-appended C3v-symmetric hexahomotrioxacalix[3]arene for selective fluorescence sensing of iodide

    Get PDF
A new C3v-symmetric hexahomotrioxacalix[3]arene L bearing pyrene moieties as fluorophores has been designed and synthesized. L exhibits a significant fluorescence quenching response to I− even when in the presence of other potentially competing anions. There is a good linear relationship between the fluorescence intensity and the concentration of I− over the range 0–100 μM and the detection limit was calculated to be as low as 164 nM. Ligand L can serve as a fluorescent chemosensor for the highly selective, sensitive, and rapid detection of I−

Assessment of mitochondrial dysfunction and implications in cardiovascular disorders

    Get PDF
Mitochondria play a pivotal role in cellular function, not only acting as the powerhouse of the cell, but also regulating ATP synthesis, reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, intracellular Ca2+ cycling, and apoptosis. During the past decade, extensive progress has been made in the technology to assess mitochondrial functions and accumulating evidences have shown that mitochondrial dysfunction is a key pathophysiological mechanism for many diseases including cardiovascular disorders, such as ischemic heart disease, cardiomyopathy, hypertension, atherosclerosis, and hemorrhagic shock. The advances in methodology have been accelerating our understanding of mitochondrial molecular structure and function, biogenesis and ROS and energy production, which facilitates new drug target identification and therapeutic strategy development for mitochondrial dysfunction-related disorders. This review will focus on the assessment of methodologies currently used for mitochondrial research and discuss their advantages, limitations and the implications of mitochondrial dysfunction in cardiovascular disorders
