Poly[tetra-n-butylammonium [(μ5-benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylato)(μ4-benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylato)-μ3-hydroxido-trizincate] 0.25-hydrate]

In the asymmetric unit of title coordination polymer, {(C16H36N)[Zn3(C9H3O6)2(OH)]·0.25H2O}n, there are three independent Zn2+ cations, two benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate ligands and a μ3-bridging hydroxide group, together with a tetra-n-butylammonium counter-cation and a partially occupied water molecule of solvation (occupancy 0.25). Each Zn ion is coordinated by three carboxylate O atoms and one O atom from the bridging hydroxide ion, displaying a slightly distorted tetrahedral stereochemistry [overall Zn—O range = 1.875 (3)–1.987 (2) Å]. An intramolecular hydrogen bond involving the hydroxide H atom and a carboxylate O-atom acceptor is also present in the complex unit. The bridging benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate anions generate a three-dimensional framework structure

    Resistant gonorrhoea: east meets west

In 2016 and 2018, two treatment failures of ceftriaxone and azithromycin, used in combination, were reported in the UK in men who contracted gonococcal infections in Asia,1, 2 once again suggesting that antimicrobial resistance of Neisseria gonorrhoeae is spreading. These treatment failures indicate the potentially waning efficacy and usefulness of this combination, which is currently recommended as the first-line therapy. Surveillance of antimicrobial resistance is paramount if resistance patterns of these and other antimicrobials are to be recognised in a timely manner that enables meaningful intervention and prevention of the spread of resistant organisms. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing (phenotyping) for antimicrobial resistance is considered the gold-standard test. There are some key limitations to the more commonly used methods of genotyping, such as N gonorrhoeae multi-antigen sequence typing (NG-MAST) and multilocus sequence typing (MLST), which indicate associated antimicrobial resistance determinants but do not directly identify antimicrobial resistance. The genotypes of N gonorrhoeae strains that are identified by use of these methods, which include antimicrobial resistance determinants, often do not correlate directly with the mean inhibitory concentrations of antimicrobials against these strains

Convergence of the variational iteration method for solving multi-order fractional differential equations

AbstractIn this paper, the variational iteration method (VIM) is applied to obtain approximate solutions of multi-order fractional differential equations (M-FDEs). We can easily obtain the satisfying solution just by using a few simple transformations and applying the VIM. A theorem for convergence and error estimates of the VIM for solving M-FDEs is given. Moreover, numerical results show that our theoretical analysis are accurate and the VIM is a powerful method for solving M-FDEs

Rapid Remission in Peripheral T-Cell Lymphoma of the Nasal Type by the Bortezomib plus CHOP Therapy

Peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) is rare and difficult to treat for its high relapse rate. The authors report a case of PTCL of the skin, regarding which clinical and pathological features, treatment, and prognosis were discussed. A 66-year-old woman was admitted with complaints of enlarging erythematous noduloplaques on the right anterior tibial skin for one year and similar lesions on the left for 6 months. Surgical resection of right leg lesion and biopsy of enlarged inguinal lymph nodes histologically indicated a PTCL of the nasal type. The patient was treated by CHOP plus bortezomib, reached complete remission just after two courses of chemotherapy and then received another two as consolidation. The patient remained in remission for 11 months until local relapse. As for cutaneous lesions, detailed lymph node examination and prompt tissue biopsy are judicious choices prior to any medical management. The chemotherapy consisting of bortezomib and CHOP is safe and efficient in PTCL of the skin

Kalman estimator- and general linear model-based on-line brain activation mapping by near-infrared spectroscopy

Abstract

Background

Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) is a non-invasive neuroimaging technique that recently has been developed to measure the changes of cerebral blood oxygenation associated with brain activities. To date, for functional brain mapping applications, there is no standard on-line method for analysing NIRS data.

Methods

In this paper, a novel on-line NIRS data analysis framework taking advantages of both the general linear model (GLM) and the Kalman estimator is devised. The Kalman estimator is used to update the GLM coefficients recursively, and one critical coefficient regarding brain activities is then passed to a <it>t</it>-statistical test. The <it>t</it>-statistical test result is used to update a topographic brain activation map. Meanwhile, a set of high-pass filters is plugged into the GLM to prevent very low-frequency noises, and an autoregressive (AR) model is used to prevent the temporal correlation caused by physiological noises in NIRS time series. A set of data recorded in finger tapping experiments is studied using the proposed framework.

Results

The obtained results suggest that the method can effectively track the task related brain activation areas, and prevent the noise distortion in the estimation while the experiment is running. Thereby, the potential of the proposed method for real-time NIRS-based brain imaging was demonstrated.

Conclusions

This paper presents a novel on-line approach for analysing NIRS data for functional brain mapping applications. This approach demonstrates the potential of a real-time-updating topographic brain activation map.</p
