    An Analysis Report of College English Classroom Teaching in the Grading Model

    Based on data collected from Grade 2015 and Grade 2016, the present article mainly analyzes current situations of the grading model being implemented in a west provincial university. As frontline teachers, we cannot participate in the decision of which model to use, but can try our best to conduct frequent reflection and make necessary changes in classroom teaching for the good of college students’ achievements in English course. Due mostly to the limitations of one teacher’s first-hand experience, the research seems hard to hold water, and more are expected to participate in this topic. Only by means of active exploration and generous contributions from all teachers and educators concerned, will China College English be improved and productive in developing all-around talents needed for the realization of Chinese dreams

    Climatic Signals in Wood Property Variables of Picea Crassifolia

    Little attention has been given to climatic signals in wood properties. In this study, ring width(RW), annual average microfibril angle (MFA), annual average tracheid radial diameter (TRD), andannual average density (DEN), as the annual and intra-annual wood property variables, were measured at high resolution by SilviScan-3 on dated Picea crassifolia trees. Dendroclimatological methods were used to analyze climatic signals registered in wood property variables. RW, MFA, and TRD negatively correlated with temperature and positively correlated with precipitation in the growing season, whereas the reverse was true for DEN. Climatic signals recorded in the earlywood were similar to those measured for the full width of the annual rings. Climatic signals recorded in latewood were very weak except for latewood MFA. This study showed that wood property variables could be extensive resources for learning more about the influences of climate on tree growth and how trees adapt to ongoing climate change

    Fabrication and Spectral Properties of Wood-Based Luminescent Nanocomposites

    Pressure impregnation pretreatment is a conventional method to fabricate wood-based nanocomposites. In this paper, the wood-based luminescent nanocomposites were fabricated with the method and its spectral properties were investigated. The results show that it is feasible to fabricate wood-based luminescent nanocomposites using microwave modified wood and nanophosphor powders. The luminescent strength is in positive correlation with the amount of phosphor powders dispersed in urea-formaldehyde resin. Phosphors absorb UV and blue light efficiently in the range of 400–470 nm and show a broad band of bluish-green emission centered at 500 nm, which makes them good candidates for potential blue-green luminescent materials

    Water-Triggered Dimensional Swelling of Cellulose Nanofibril Films: Instant Observation Using Optical Microscope

    To understand the swelling behavior of cellulose nanofibril (CNF) films, the dimensional variation of untreated and phenol formaldehyde modified CNF (CNF/PF) films soaked in distilled water was examined in situ with microscopic image recording combined with pixel calculation. Results showed that a dramatic thickness increase exhibited in both CNF and CNF/PF films, despite being at different swelling levels. Compared to thickness swelling, however, the width expansion for these films is negligible. Such significant difference in dimensional swelling for CNF and PF modified films is mainly caused by nanofibril deposition and their mesostructure. However, addition of PF modifier has a positive effect on the constraint of water absorption and thickness swelling, which is strongly dependent on PF loadings

    Pancreatic cancer is a highly malignant digestive tract tumor with hidden symptoms, limited treatment options and rapid progression. With an increasing incidence rate year by year, pancreatic cancer has increasingly become a prominent issue endangering public health, causing a huge social burden. Although there was no significant improvement in survival rates for pancreatic cancer patients in the past two decades, recent progress in epidemiology, basic research and clinical research of pancreatic cancer has accelerated significantly compared to the past. Some findings have already enabled a small proportion of pancreatic cancer patients to achieve better survival.     Progress of regional oceanography study associated with western boundary current in the South China Sea

    Recent progress of physical oceanography in the South China Sea (SCS) associated with the western boundary current (WBC) and eddies is reviewed in this paper. It includes Argo observations of the WBC, eddy detection in the WBC based on satellite images, cross-continental shelf exchange in the WBC, eddy-current interaction, interannual variability of the WBC, air-sea interaction, the SCS throughflow (SCSTF), among others. The WBC in the SCS is strong, and its structure, variability and dynamic processes on seasonal and interannual time scales are yet to be fully understood. In this paper, we summarize progresses on the variability of the WBC, eddy-current interaction, air-sea interaction, and the SCSTF achieved in the past few years. Firstly, using the drifting buoy observations, we point out that the WBC becomes stronger and narrower after it reaches the central Vietnam coast. The pos-sible mechanisms influencing the ocean circulation in the northern SCS are discussed, and the dynamic mechanisms that induce the countercurrent in the region of northern branch of WBC in winter are also studied quantitatively using momentum balance. The geostropic component of the WBC was diagnosed using the ship observation along 18°N, and we found that the WBC changed significantly on interannual time scale. Secondly, using the ship observations, two anti-cyclonic eddies in the winter of 2003/2004 in the northern SCS, and three anti-cyclonic eddies in the summer of 2007 along 18°N were studied. The results show that the two anti-cyclonic eddies can propagate southwestward along the continental shelf at the speed of first Rossby wave (~0.1 m s1) in winter, and the interaction between the three anti-cyclonic eddies in summer and the WBC in the SCS is preliminarily revealed. Eddies on the continental shelf of northern SCS propagated southeastward with a maximum speed of 0.09 m s-1, and those to the east of Vietnam coast had the largest kinetic energy, both of which imply strong interaction between eddy activity and WBC in the SCS. Thirdly, strong intraseasonal variability (ISV) of sea surface temperature (SST) near the WBC regions was found, and the ISV signal of SST in winter weakens the ISV signal of latent heat flux by 20%.     Effects of Norepinephrine and Acetylcholine on the Development of Cultured Leydig Cells in Mice

    Few data have suggested how norepinephrine (NE) and acetylcholine (Ach) regulate the development of Leydig cells in mice at prepuberty, except for data indicating endocrine effects. The present study aims to elucidate the roles of NE and Ach on the differentiation and proliferation of Leydig cells. Firstly, the expression of adrenergic receptors and muscarinic acetylcholine receptors in Leydig cells was investigated. It was found that adrenergic receptors (β1AR, β2AR, and α1D) and muscarinic acetylcholine receptors (M1 and M3) mRNA are expressed in adult Leydig cells. Then, the effects of NE and Ach on the differentiation and proliferation of Leydig cells were analyzed. The results showed that NE and Ach at 10 μM significantly increased the number of 3β-hydroxysteroid-dehydrogenase-(3β-HSD-) positive Leydig cells and improved the expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) in Leydig cells on postnatal day (PD) 15 (P < 0.05). NE and Ach at 10 μM had no impact on the expression of PCNA mRNA (P > 0.05), but reduced the expression of 3β-HSD mRNA in adult Leydig cells and a murine Leydig tumor cell line (MLTC-1) (P < 0.05). Therefore, a conclusion may be reached that NE and Ach participated in stimulating the development of Leydig cells in mice from prepuberty to adult stage
