A large-scale one-way quantum computer in an array of coupled cavities

We propose an efficient method to realize a large-scale one-way quantum computer in a two-dimensional (2D) array of coupled cavities, based on coherent displacements of an arbitrary state of cavity fields in a closed phase space. Due to the nontrivial geometric phase shifts accumulating only between the qubits in nearest-neighbor cavities, a large-scale 2D cluster state can be created within a short time. We discuss the feasibility of our method for scale solid-state quantum computationComment: 5 pages, 3 figure

Model averaging based on Kullback-Leibler distance

© 2015, Institute of Statistical Science. All rights reserved. This paper proposes a model averaging method based on Kullback-Leibler distance under a homoscedastic normal error term. The resulting model average estimator is proved to be asymptotically optimal. When combining least squares estimators, the model average estimator is shown to have the same large sample properties as the Mallows model average (MMA) estimator developed by Hansen (2007). We show via simulations that, in terms of mean squared prediction error and mean squared parameter estimation error, the proposed model average estimator is more efficient than the MMA estimator and the estimator based on model selection using the corrected Akaike information criterion in small sample situations. A modified version of the new model average estimator is further suggested for the case of heteroscedastic random errors. The method is applied to a data set from the Hong Kong real estate market

Spin correlated interferometry for polarized and unpolarized photons on a beam splitter

Spin interferometry of the 4th order for independent polarized as well as unpolarized photons arriving simultaneously at a beam splitter and exhibiting spin correlation while leaving it, is formulated and discussed in the quantum approach. Beam splitter is recognized as a source of genuine singlet photon states. Also, typical nonclassical beating between photons taking part in the interference of the 4th order is given a polarization dependent explanation.Comment: RevTeX, 19 pages, 1 ps figure, author web page at http://m3k.grad.hr/pavici

Expression, purification and kinase activity analysis of maize ZmSPK1, a member of plant SnRK2 subfamily

Kinase activity is essential for a protein kinase to perform its biological function. In previous study we have cloned a novel plant SnRK2 subfamily gene from maize and named it as ZmSPK1. In this study thecDNA of ZmSPK1 with dHA-His6 tag was amplified by PCR and was subcloned into the yeast expression vector p426GAL1. The constructed plasmid named as p426GAL1-SPK1-dHA-His6 was transformed into Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Under the induction of galactose the recombinant protein was expressed. The purified recombinant protein showed a single specific band by the analysis of the western-blot. In an in vitro kinase assay, the purified recombinant protein showed phosphorylation and autophosphorylation activity. This showed that ZmSPK1 encodes a functional protein kinase
