Effect of Decoherence on the Dynamics of Bose-Einstein Condensates in a Double-well Potential
We study the dynamics of a Bose-Einstein condensate in a double-well
potential in the mean-field approximation. Decoherence effects are considered
by analyzing the couplings of the condensate to environments. Two kinds of
coupling are taken into account. With the first kind of coupling dominated, the
decoherence can enhance the self-trapping by increasing the damping of the
oscillations in the dynamics, while the decoherence from the second kind of
condensate-environment coupling leads to spoiling of the quantum tunneling and
self-trapping.Comment: for color figures, see PR
SU(5) Heterotic Standard Model Bundles
We construct a class of stable SU(5) bundles on an elliptically fibered
Calabi-Yau threefold with two sections, a variant of the ordinary Weierstrass
fibration, which admits a free involution. The bundles are invariant under the
involution, solve the topological constraint imposed by the heterotic anomaly
equation and give three generations of Standard Model fermions after symmetry
breaking by Wilson lines of the intermediate SU(5) GUT-group to the Standard
Model gauge group. Among the solutions we find some which can be perturbed to
solutions of the Strominger system. Thus these solutions provide a step toward
the construction of phenomenologically realistic heterotic flux
compactifications via non-Kahler deformations of Calabi-Yau geometries with
bundles. This particular class of solutions involves a rank two hidden sector
bundle and does not require background fivebranes for anomaly cancellation.Comment: 17 page
Modelling and control of the flame temperature distribution using probability density function shaping
This paper presents three control algorithms for the output probability density function (PDF) control of the 2D and 3D flame distribution systems. For the 2D flame distribution systems, control methods for both static and dynamic flame systems are presented, where at first the temperature distribution of the gas jet flames along the cross-section is approximated. Then the flame energy distribution (FED) is obtained as the output to be controlled by using a B-spline expansion technique. The general static output PDF control algorithm is used in the 2D static flame system, where the dynamic system consists of a static temperature model of gas jet flames and a second-order actuator. This leads to a second-order closed-loop system, where a singular state space model is used to describe the dynamics with the weights of the B-spline functions as the state variables. Finally, a predictive control algorithm is designed for such an output PDF system. For the 3D flame distribution systems, all the temperature values of the flames are firstly mapped into one temperature plane, and the shape of the temperature distribution on this plane can then be controlled by the 3D flame control method proposed in this paper. Three cases are studied for the proposed control methods and desired simulation results have been obtained

Shear Resistance Prediction of post-fire reinforced concrete beams using artificial neural network
In this paper, a prediction method based on artificial neural network was developed to rapidly determine the residual shear resistance of reinforced concrete (RC) beams after fire. Firstly, the temperature distribution along the beam section was determined through finite element analysis using software ABAQUS. A residual shear strength calculation model was developed and validated using the test data. Using this model, 384 data entries were derived for training and testing. The input layer of neural network involved parameters of beam height, beam width, fire exposure time, cross-sectional area of stirrup, stirrup spacing, concrete strength, and concrete cover thickness. The output was the shear resistance of RC beams. It was found that use of BP neural network could precisely predict the post-fire shear resistance of RC beams. The predicted data were highly consistent with the target data. Thus, this is a novel method for computing post-fire shear resistance of RC beams. Using this new method, further investigation was also made on the effects of different parameters on the shear resistance of the beams
Momentum Distribution of Near-Zero-Energy Photoelectrons in the Strong-Field Tunneling Ionization in the Long Wavelength Limit
We investigate the ionization dynamics of Argon atoms irradiated by an
ultrashort intense laser of a wavelength up to 3100 nm, addressing the momentum
distribution of the photoelectrons with near-zero-energy. We find a surprising
accumulation in the momentum distribution corresponding to meV energy and a
\textquotedblleft V"-like structure at the slightly larger transverse momenta.
Semiclassical simulations indicate the crucial role of the Coulomb attraction
between the escaping electron and the remaining ion at extremely large
distance. Tracing back classical trajectories, we find the tunneling electrons
born in a certain window of the field phase and transverse velocity are
responsible for the striking accumulation. Our theoretical results are
consistent with recent meV-resolved high-precision measurements.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
Observation of two distinct band splittings in FeSe
We report the temperature evolution of the detailed electronic band structure
in FeSe single-crystals measured by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy
(ARPES), including the degeneracy removal of the and orbitals
at the /Z and M points, and the orbital-selective hybridization between
the and orbitals. The temperature dependences of the
splittings at the /Z and M points are different, indicating that they
are controlled by different order parameters. The splitting at the M point is
closely related to the structural transition and is attributed to orbital
ordering defined on Fe-Fe bonds with a -wave form in the reciprocal space
that breaks the rotational symmetry. In contrast, the band splitting at the
points remains at temperature far above the structural transition.
Although the origin of this latter splitting remains unclear, our experimental
results exclude the previously proposed ferro-orbital ordering scenario.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures. New title. Abstract and introduction modifie
Effects of tai chi on postural control during dual-task stair negotiation in knee osteoarthritis : a randomised controlled trial protocol
Stair ascent and descent require complex integration between sensory and motor systems; individuals with knee osteoarthritis (KOA) have an elevated risk for falls and fall injuries, which may be in part due to poor dynamic postural control during locomotion. Tai chi exercise has been shown to reduce fall risks in the ageing population and is recommended as one of the non-pharmocological therapies for people with KOA. However, neuromuscular mechanisms underlying the benefits of tai chi for persons with KOA are not clearly understood. Postural control deficits in performing a primary motor task may be more pronounced when required to simultaneously attend to a cognitive task. This single-blind, parallel design randomised controlled trial (RCT) aims to evaluate the effects of a 12-week tai chi programme versus balance and postural control training on neuromechanical characteristics during dual-task stair negotiation. Sixty-six participants with KOA will be randomised into either tai chi or balance and postural control training, each at 60 min per session, twice weekly for 12 weeks. Assessed at baseline and 12 weeks (ie, postintervention), the primary outcomes are attention cost and dynamic postural stability during dual-task stair negotiation. Secondary outcomes include balance and proprioception, foot clearances, self-reported symptoms and function. A telephone follow-up to assess symptoms and function will be conducted at 20 weeks. The findings will help determine whether tai chi is beneficial on dynamic stability and in reducing fall risks in older adults with KOA patients in community. Ethics approval was obtained from the Ethics Committee of the Affiliated Rehabilitation Hospital of Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (#2018KY-006-1). Study findings will be disseminated through presentations at scientific conferences or publications in peer-reviewed journals. ChiCTR1800018028. Photometric and Spectroscopic Observations of the Algol Type Binary V Triangle
Time-series, multi-color photometry and high-resolution spectra of the short
period eclipsing binary V Tri were obtained by observations. The completely
covered light and radial velocity curves of the binary system are presented.
All times of light minima derived from both photoelectric and CCD photometry
were used to calculate the orbital period and new ephemerides of the eclipsing
system. The analysis of diagram reveals that the orbital period is
