Internal Energy of the Potts model on the Triangular Lattice with Two- and Three-body Interactions
We calculate the internal energy of the Potts model on the triangular lattice
with two- and three-body interactions at the transition point satisfying
certain conditions for coupling constants. The method is a duality
transformation. Therefore we have to make assumptions on uniqueness of the
transition point and that the transition is of second order. These assumptions
have been verified to hold by numerical simulations for q=2, 3 and 4, and our
results for the internal energy are expected to be exact in these cases.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figure
Multicritical Points of Potts Spin Glasses on the Triangular Lattice
We predict the locations of several multicritical points of the Potts spin
glass model on the triangular lattice. In particular, continuous multicritical
lines, which consist of multicritical points, are obtained for two types of
two-state Potts (i.e., Ising) spin glasses with two- and three-body
interactions on the triangular lattice. These results provide us with numerous
examples to further verify the validity of the conjecture, which has succeeded
in deriving highly precise locations of multicritical points for several spin
glass models. The technique, called the direct triangular duality, a variant of
the ordinary duality transformation, directly relates the triangular lattice
with its dual triangular lattice in conjunction with the replica method.Comment: 18 pages, 2, figure

Understanding I=2 pi-pi Interaction
A correct understanding and description of the I=2 pi-pi S-wave interaction
is important for the extraction of the I=0 pi-pi S-wave interaction from
experimental data and for understanding the I=0 pi-pi S-wave interaction
theoretically. With t-channel rho, f2(1270) exchange and the pi pi -> rho rho
-> pi pi box diagram contribution, we reproduce the pi-pi isotensor S-wave and
D-wave scattering phase shifts and inelasticities up to 2.2 GeV quite well in a
K-matrix formalism.Comment: Talk given at Hadron 03: 10th International Conference on Hadron

Thermal rectifier from deformed carbon nanohorns
We study thermal rectification in single-walled carbon nanohorns (SWNHs) by
using non-equilibrium molecular dynamics (MD) method. It is found that the
horns with the bigger top angles show larger asymmetric heat transport due to
the larger structural gradient distribution. This kind of gradient behavior can
be further adjusted by applying external strain on the SWNHs. After being
carefully elongated along the axial direction, the thermal rectification in the
elongated SWNHs can become more obvious than that in undeformed ones. The
maximum rectification efficiency of SWNHs is much bigger than that of carbon
nanotube intramolecular junctions.Comment: 3 figure
Performability evaluation of the SIFT computer
Performability modeling and evaluation techniques are applied to the SIFT computer as it might operate in the computational evironment of an air transport mission. User-visible performance of the total system (SIFT plus its environment) is modeled as a random variable taking values in a set of levels of accomplishment. These levels are defined in terms of four attributes of total system behavior: safety, no change in mission profile, no operational penalties, and no economic process whose states describe the internal structure of SIFT as well as relavant conditions of the environment. Base model state trajectories are related to accomplishment levels via a capability function which is formulated in terms of a 3-level model hierarchy. Performability evaluation algorithms are then applied to determine the performability of the total system for various choices of computer and environment parameter values. Numerical results of those evaluations are presented and, in conclusion, some implications of this effort are discussed
