    Chinese Fine-Grained Financial Sentiment Analysis with Large Language Models

    Entity-level fine-grained sentiment analysis in the financial domain is a crucial subtask of sentiment analysis and currently faces numerous challenges. The primary challenge stems from the lack of high-quality and large-scale annotated corpora specifically designed for financial text sentiment analysis, which in turn limits the availability of data necessary for developing effective text processing techniques. Recent advancements in large language models (LLMs) have yielded remarkable performance in natural language processing tasks, primarily centered around language pattern matching. In this paper, we propose a novel and extensive Chinese fine-grained financial sentiment analysis dataset, FinChina SA, for enterprise early warning. We thoroughly evaluate and experiment with well-known existing open-source LLMs using our dataset. We firmly believe that our dataset will serve as a valuable resource to advance the exploration of real-world financial sentiment analysis tasks, which should be the focus of future research.     A Conceptual Framework for Mapping Quantitative Trait Loci Regulating Ontogenetic Allometry

    Although ontogenetic changes in body shape and its associated allometry has been studied for over a century, essentially nothing is known about their underlying genetic and developmental mechanisms. One of the reasons for this ignorance is the unavailability of a conceptual framework to formulate the experimental design for data collection and statistical models for data analyses. We developed a framework model for unraveling the genetic machinery for ontogenetic changes of allometry. The model incorporates the mathematical aspects of ontogenetic growth and allometry into a maximum likelihood framework for quantitative trait locus (QTL) mapping. As a quantitative platform, the model allows for the testing of a number of biologically meaningful hypotheses to explore the pleiotropic basis of the QTL that regulate ontogeny and allometry. Simulation studies and real data analysis of a live example in soybean have been performed to investigate the statistical behavior of the model and validate its practical utilization. The statistical model proposed will help to study the genetic architecture of complex phenotypes and, therefore, gain better insights into the mechanistic regulation for developmental patterns and processes in organisms

    Specific type of childhood trauma and borderline personality disorder in Chinese patients

    BackgroundChildhood maltreatment (CM) is a known risk factor for the development of mental disorders. An extensive body of literature about CM and mental health has been developed in wealthy countries, but information about this connection is lacking in developing countries including China.AimsTo explore the possible relationship between specific types of CM and borderline personality disorder (BPD) in patients with mental disorders in China.MethodsA survey was conducted in 2006, involving over 3,402 Chinese individuals aged 18–60 years who were randomly selected from the outpatients in the Shanghai Mental Health Center. The patients were screened with the Personality Diagnostic Questionnaire and CM was assessed using the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire. The final sample comprised 178 patients with BPD, 178 patients with other personality disorders (PDs), and 178 patients without PDs.ResultsIn Chinese patients, compared to other PDs, patients with BPDs are more likely to have experienced CM. Emotional maltreatment (emotional abuse and neglect) was the strongest predictor of BPD. Female gender and sexual abuse are significant predictors of the self-harm/suicidal risk of BPD patients.ConclusionThis is a pioneering study conducted on a large set of Chinese clinical samples with paired controls to establish and compare the associations between specific CM and BPD. Further studies in this field are necessary to elucidate the mechanism of how various types of childhood trauma have influenced PDs

    Protective effect of five-flavor sophora flavescens enteric-coated capsules on inflammatory bowel disease and its molecular mechanism

    Abstract This study aims to investigate the effect of five-flavor sophora flavescens enteric-coated capsules (FSEC) on TNF-Ξ±-induced inflammatory bowel disease and its molecular mechanism. Wistar Rats were divided divided into 6 groups: Normal control group (group A): normal diet, drinking water; Model group (group B): 100 ΞΌg/L TNF-Ξ±; FSEC high-dose group (group C): 100ΞΌg/L TNF-Ξ± + FSEC (432 mg/kg); FSEC medium-dose group (group D): 100 ΞΌg/L TNF-Ξ± + FSEC (216 mg/kg); FSEC low-dose group (group E): 100 ΞΌg/L TNF-Ξ± + FSEC (108 mg/kg); Positive control group (group F): 100 ΞΌg/L TNF-Ξ± + 500 mg/kg sulfasalazine (SAZ). Animals in each group were intragastrically administered twice daily for 7 days. Animals were sacrificed 24 hours after the last treatment and colon tissues were collected for subsequent experiments. The results of HE staining showed that the colonic tissue of TNF-Ξ±-fed animals appeared damage, while the colonic tissue of animals treated with FSEC was improved to various degrees, and the histological characteristics of colon were basically recovered in the high-dose group, suggesting that FSEC could be used to treat TNF-Ξ±-induced colonic tissue damage. According to the results of ELISA and immunohistochemistry, the recovery of colonic tissue structure in rats treated with different doses of FSEC might be related to the decrease of TNF-Ξ±, IL-6, IL-17, TLR-4 and NF-ΞΊB proteins expression. According to the results of Western blotting, TNF-Ξ±-pretreated IEC-6 cells cultured with medicated serum decreased the expression of TRIF and IFN-Ξ³ proteins. These results suggest that FSEC has a protective effect on ulcerative colitis (UC), and the mechanism may be through inhibiting the activation of TLR-4/NF-ΞΊB signaling pathway and preventing the release of related inflammatory factors

    Genetic Variants in WNT2B and BTRC Predict Melanoma Survival

    Cutaneous melanoma (CM) is the most lethal skin cancer. The Wnt pathway has an impact on development, invasion and metastasis of CM, thus likely affecting CM prognosis. Using data from a published genome-wide association study (GWAS) from The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, we assessed the associations of 19,830 common single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in 151 Wnt pathway autosomal genes with CM-specific survival (CMSS) and then validated significant SNPs in another GWAS from Harvard University. In the single-locus analysis, 1,855 SNPs were significantly associated with CMSS at P T and BTRC rs61873997 G>A) that showed a predictive role in CMSS, with an effect-allele-attributed hazards ratio [adjHR of 1.99 (95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.41-2.81, P = 8.10E-05) and 0.61 (0.46-0.80, 3.12E-04), respectively]. Collectively, these variants in the Wnt pathway genes may be biomarkers for outcomes of CM patients, if validated by larger studies

    PDGF Upregulates Mcl-1 Through Activation of Ξ²-Catenin and HIF-1Ξ±-Dependent Signaling in Human Prostate Cancer Cells

    BACKGROUND: Aberrant platelet derived growth factor (PDGF) signaling has been associated with prostate cancer (PCa) progression. However, its role in the regulation of PCa cell growth and survival has not been well characterized. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: Using experimental models that closely mimic clinical pathophysiology of PCa progression, we demonstrated that PDGF is a survival factor in PCa cells through upregulation of myeloid cell leukemia-1 (Mcl-1). PDGF treatment induced rapid nuclear translocation of Ξ²-catenin, presumably mediated by c-Abl and p68 signaling. Intriguingly, PDGF promoted formation of a nuclear transcriptional complex consisting of Ξ²-catenin and hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1Ξ±, and its binding to Mcl-1 promoter. Deletion of a putative hypoxia response element (HRE) within the Mcl-1 promoter attenuated PDGF effects on Mcl-1 expression. Blockade of PDGF receptor (PDGFR) signaling with a pharmacological inhibitor AG-17 abrogated PDGF induction of Mcl-1, and induced apoptosis in metastatic PCa cells. CONCLUSIONS/SIGNIFICANCE: Our study elucidated a crucial survival mechanism in PCa cells, indicating that interruption of the PDGF-Mcl-1 survival signal may provide a novel strategy for treating PCa metastasis

    Genetic variants of PDGF signaling pathway genes predict cutaneous melanoma survival

    To investigate whether genetic variants of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) signaling pathway genes are associated with survival of cutaneous melanoma (CM) patients, we assessed associations of single-nucleotide polymorphisms in PDGF pathway with melanoma-specific survival in 858 CM patients of M.D. Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC). Additional data of 409 cases from Harvard University were also included for further analysis. We identified 13 SNPs in four genes (COL6A3, NCK2, COL5A1 and PRKCD) with a nominal P T in NCK2 (HR = 1.87, 95% CI = 1.35-2.59, Pmeta = 1.53E-5); and rs2306574 T>C in PRKCD (HR = 1.73, 95% CI = 1.33-2.24, Pmeta = 4.56E-6). Moreover, CM patients in MDACC with combined risk genotypes of these two loci had markedly poorer survival (HR = 2.47, 95% CI = 1.58-3.84, P T in NCK2 and rs2306574 T>C in PRKCD of the PDGF signaling pathway may be biomarkers for melanoma survival

    Spontaneous rotational symmetry breaking in KTaO3_3 interface superconductors

    Strongly correlated electrons could display intriguing spontaneous broken symmetries in the ground state. Understanding these symmetry breaking states is fundamental to elucidate the various exotic quantum phases in condensed matter physics. Here, we report an experimental observation of spontaneous rotational symmetry breaking of the superconductivity at the interface of YAlO3_3/KTaO3_3 (111) with a superconducting transition temperature of 1.86 K. Both the magnetoresistance and upper critical field in an in-plane field manifest striking twofold symmetric oscillations deep inside the superconducting state, whereas the anisotropy vanishes in the normal state, demonstrating that it is an intrinsic property of the superconducting phase. We attribute this behavior to the mixed-parity superconducting state, which is an admixture of ss-wave and pp-wave pairing components induced by strong spin-orbit coupling. Our work demonstrates an unconventional nature of the pairing interaction in the KTaO3_3 interface superconductor, and provides a new platform to clarify a delicate interplay of electron correlation and spin-orbit coupling.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figure
