Planar Object Tracking in the Wild: A Benchmark

Planar object tracking is an actively studied problem in vision-based robotic applications. While several benchmarks have been constructed for evaluating state-of-the-art algorithms, there is a lack of video sequences captured in the wild rather than in constrained laboratory environment. In this paper, we present a carefully designed planar object tracking benchmark containing 210 videos of 30 planar objects sampled in the natural environment. In particular, for each object, we shoot seven videos involving various challenging factors, namely scale change, rotation, perspective distortion, motion blur, occlusion, out-of-view, and unconstrained. The ground truth is carefully annotated semi-manually to ensure the quality. Moreover, eleven state-of-the-art algorithms are evaluated on the benchmark using two evaluation metrics, with detailed analysis provided for the evaluation results. We expect the proposed benchmark to benefit future studies on planar object tracking.Comment: Accepted by ICRA 201

AbstractTaking the Landsat TM and ASTER images of Hanshiqiao wetland nature reserve in 1988, 1996 and 2004 as data source, based on the landscape types from imagery classification, the reserve landscape pattern and its changes were analyzed, meanwhile, the landscape quality and its changes were evaluated and discussed. Several landscape pattern indices were analyzed, the results indicated that from 1988 to 2004, as the result of natural factors and human disturbances, the landscape structure has been changed, landscape fragmentation has become more and more serious, patches have been tended to regular shape, and connectivity of the natural wetland has been weakened. In addition, the landscape quality was evaluated based on the indicators of pressure, state and response. The results showed that during 1996-2004 periods, the landscape quality for Hanshiqiao wetland nature reserve has degraded obviously, which was mainly influenced by human activities breaking into wetland landscape. Effective wetland management and control is therefore needed to solve the issues of the wetland loss and degradation in Hanshiqiao wetland nature reserve

3D Textile Reconstruction based on KinectFusion and Synthesized Texture

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to present a novel framework of reconstructing the 3D textile model with synthesized texture. Design/methodology/approach First, a pipeline of 3D textile reconstruction based on KinectFusion is proposed to obtain a better 3D model. Second, “DeepTextures” method is applied to generate new textures for various three-dimensional textile models. Findings Experimental results show that the proposed method can conveniently reconstruct a three-dimensional textile model with synthesized texture. Originality/value A novel pipeline is designed to obtain 3D high-quality textile models based on KinectFusion. The accuracy and robustness of KinectFusion are improved via a turntable. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first paper to explore the synthesized textile texture for the 3D textile model. This is not only simply mapping the texture onto the 3D model, but also exploring the application of artificial intelligence in the field of textile. </jats:sec

Shortcuts to adiabaticity in Fermi gases

    Get PDF
Shortcuts to adiabaticity (STA) provide an alternative to adiabatic protocols to guide the dynamics of the system of interest without the requirement of slow driving. We report the controlled speedup via STA of the nonadiabatic dynamics of a Fermi gas, both in the non-interacting and strongly coupled, unitary regimes. Friction-free superadiabatic expansion strokes, with no residual excitations in the final state, are demonstrated in the unitary regime by engineering the modulation of the frequencies and aspect ratio of the harmonic trap. STA are also analyzed and implemented in the high-temperature regime, where the shear viscosity plays a pivotal role and the Fermi gas is described by viscous hydrodynamics.Comment: 12 pp, 6 figure
