Renormalization formalism for superconducting phase transition with inner-Cooper-pair dynamics
As charge carrier of the macroscopic superconductivity, the Cooper pair is a
composite particle of two paired electrons, which has both center-of-mass and
inner-pair degrees of freedom. In most cases, these two different degrees of
freedom can be well described by the macroscopic Ginzburg-Landau theory and the
microscopic Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) theory, respectively. Near the
superconducting phase transition where the Cooper pair is fragile and unstable
because of the small binding energy, there are non-trivial couplings between
these two different degrees of freedom due to such as finite energy and/or
momentum transfer. The non-trivial couplings make the original derivation of
the Ginzburg-Landau theory from the BCS theory fail in principle as where these
two different degrees of freedom should not be decoupled. In this manuscript,
we will present a renormalization formalism for an extended Ginzburg-Landau
action for the superconducting phase transition where there is finite energy
transfer between the center-of-mass and the inner-pair degrees of freedom of
Cooper pairs. This formalism will provide a theoretical tool to study the
unusual effects of the inner-pair time-retarded physics on the superconducting
phase transition.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figure
Self-regulation of homework behavior: Homework management at the secondary school level
ABSTRACT. The authors examined empirical models of variables posited to predict homework management at the secondary school level. The participants were 866 eighth-grade students from 61 classes and 745 eleventh-grade students from 46 classes. Most of the variance in homework management occurred at the student level, with affective attitude and homework interest appearing as 2 significant predictors at the class level. At the student level, homework management was positively associated with learning-oriented reasons, affective attitude, self-reported grade, family homework help, homework interest, teacher feedback, and adult-oriented reasons. On the other hand, homework management was negatively associated with time spent watching television. In addition, Black girls, compared with Black boys, were more likely to manage their homework assignments
Saturation Flow Rate and Start-up Lost Time of Dual-left Lanes at Signalized Intersection in Rainy Weather Condition
AbstractThis study aims at finding out the difference of saturation flow rate and start-up lost time at dual left lanes between normal and rainy weather. It is based on the investigation of a signalized intersection in Shanghai. The result shows that compared to clear weather, saturation flow in rainy weather decreases by 3-7 percent and each lane's start-up lost time rises by 21-31 percent. However, comparing light-medium rainy weather to clear weather, the statistical difference of each of these two parameters is not significant
Perceptual Quality Assessment of NeRF and Neural View Synthesis Methods for Front-Facing Views
Neural view synthesis (NVS) is one of the most successful techniques for
synthesizing free viewpoint videos, capable of achieving high fidelity from
only a sparse set of captured images. This success has led to many variants of
the techniques, each evaluated on a set of test views typically using image
quality metrics such as PSNR, SSIM, or LPIPS. There has been a lack of research
on how NVS methods perform with respect to perceived video quality. We present
the first study on perceptual evaluation of NVS and NeRF variants. For this
study, we collected two datasets of scenes captured in a controlled lab
environment as well as in-the-wild. In contrast to existing datasets, these
scenes come with reference video sequences, allowing us to test for temporal
artifacts and subtle distortions that are easily overlooked when viewing only
static images. We measured the quality of videos synthesized by several NVS
methods in a well-controlled perceptual quality assessment experiment as well
as with many existing state-of-the-art image/video quality metrics. We present
a detailed analysis of the results and recommendations for dataset and metric
selection for NVS evaluation
Lower-Elementary Level School Pupils' Developmental Trajectories of Chinese Verbal Vocabulary Knowledge and Influential Factors
149 elementary school pupils were selected as the subjects for this study, to whom five tracking assessments
of their verbal vocabulary knowledge were given over a period of three years. In addition, a latent variable
growth model was adopted to explore grades 1-3 elementary school pupil’s developmental trajectory
for verbal Chinese vocabulary knowledge. The phonological awareness, homomorphic morpheme
awareness, compound morpheme awareness and family socioeconomic status (SES) on the students’
verbal vocabulary knowledge were also investigated. The ndings are: 1, grades 1-3 elementary school
pupils verbal Chinese vocabulary knowledge developmental trajectory shows a curvilinear form, of which
linear development is trended in the first two years, and as of the third year the developmental rate doubles
the previous two years, whereas individual di erences are remarkable in both the initial level and the
growth rate; 2, awareness of phonetics, homomorphic morphemes and complex morphemes as well as the
family socioeconomic status can be referred to for a positive forecast of the students’ initial level of verbal
vocabulary knowledge; 3, only the awareness of homomorphic morphemes and the family socioeconomic
status can be applied to a positive prediction of the students’ verbal vocabulary knowledge growth rate.
Implementation of TCP/NC protocol simulation based on OMNET++
Abstract-TCP protocol has an awful performance in the wireless network because of the instability, high BER and long RTT of the wireless link. How to make wireless transmission more reliable and efficient has become a hot topic among relative researches. TCP/NC is a recently proposed protocol based on network coding and capable of achieving much higher throughput than TCP over lossy wireless Links. In this paper, network coding and TCP/NC are outlined firstly. And then simulation realization of TCP/NC protocol in OMNET++ is described. The performance evaluation of TCP/NC is conducted in OMNET++. The results show that TCP/NC offers significant better performance than TCP without affecting the fairness of data flow
Prepared for PrEP:preferences for HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis among Chinese men who have sex with men in an online national survey
BACKGROUND: Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is not widely available in China. Previous studies reported low awareness and inconclusive findings on the acceptability of PrEP among Chinese men who have sex with men (MSM). METHODS: We conducted a secondary analysis of an online national survey comparing preferences for oral and long-acting injectable PrEP among MSM and identifying correlates of preferences. The study did not collect detailed information about partner types that may influence negotiated safety and PrEP uptake. RESULTS: Nine-hundred and seventy-nine men from the larger sample of 1045 men responded to the PrEP survey questions. Most men (81.9%) had never heard of PrEP, but reported interest in using PrEP. More participants chose injectable PrEP (36.3%) as their preferred formulation than oral PrEP (24.6%). Men who had at least two HIV tests (adjusted OR = 1.36, 95%CI 1.04, 1.78) more commonly preferred injectable PrEP. CONCLUSION: Our findings may help inform PrEP messaging in areas where PrEP has yet to be scaled up
