    The Study of Risk Assessment of Soil Liquefaction on Land Development and Utilization by GIS in Taiwan

    The issue of soil liquefaction has been investigated widely in the past 50 years. However, there is no an integrated method have been considered for the factors between regions’ vulnerability of soil liquefaction and resilience capacity to perform the risk assessment of soil liquefaction hazard. This study selects Yunlin and Chiayi County as a demonstration area, and uses Model Builder of geo-processing models to connect multiple analysis processes, the liquefaction risk distribution in Yun-Chia Plain’s area is carried out in 100 × 100 m grid map scale by GIS. The study results could provide the reference of land development and management in Taiwan

The NTP is taking the benefit of the pervasiveness of the computer network during the recent information-oriented modern world. The NTP Pool Project is the project to provide a distributed framework of the NTP servers. As the ever-increasing amounts of the requests of the standard time, the number of the NTP servers provided by the NTP Pool Project will be extended correspondingly. This paper will provide the detailed introduction on the framework of the NTP Pool Project, the development of the NTP Pool Project in Taiwan at the present time, and the followed by the suggestions of the implementation of the NTP pool project

    A Simple Fiber Bragg Grating-Based Sensor Network Architecture with Self-Protecting and Monitoring Functions

    A novel fiber Bragg grating (FBG)-based passive sensor architecture, which can be used to protect the fiber cut and monitor the multiple sensors simultaneously, is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. Here, we employ a wavelength-tunable erbium-doped fiber (EDF) laser scheme with 25 km cavity length acting as the detecting light source in central office (CO). Each FBG sensor, serving as a feedback element, is used in proposed sensor architecture. By tuning the tunable bandpass filter (TBF) placing inside cavity to match the corresponding Bragg wavelength of FBG over the amplification bandwidth, we can retrieve the related wavelength lasing for the FBG sensing and monitoring simultaneously. Moreover, the survivability and capacity of the passive FBG sensor architecture can be also enhanced

    AbstractInformation processing in the neuron requires spatial summation of synaptic inputs at the dendrite. In CA1 pyramidal neurons of the hippocampus, a brief period of correlated pre- and postsynaptic activity, which induces long-term potentiation (LTP) or long-term depression (LTD), results in a persistent increase or decrease in the linearity of spatial summation, respectively. Such bidirectional modification of the summation property is specific to the modified input and reflects localized dendritic changes involving Ih channels and NMDA receptors. Thus, correlated pre- and postsynaptic activity alters not only the strength of the activated input but also its dendritic integration with other inputs

    Logic-based Temporal Inferences in Natural Language

    This paper concerns temporal inferences in natural language. The concept of time is crucially important because of its highly frequent use in utterances. However, time can appear in numerous forms, for example, tense or time adverbials. It also may be implicitly specified by other events associating with some temporal conjunctions, such as when, before, after, etc. A logic-based approach is adopted to represent temporal information. Situations and time adverbials can be formally represented. Lexical knowledge about time and implications of situations also expressed in terms of logical clauses. Then we propose a temporal reasoning model. Various basic types of questions such as "When did event X happen?", "How long did event X last for?", "Did event X happen at time expression T?", etc. can be interpreted into temporal queries. Finally, we also use the same framework of logic to evaluate temporal queries, carry out computation and do the further deduction
