A Retrospective Case Study of the Thematic Content of Psychotic Experiences in a First Episode Psychosis Population
Background. Historically, the content of psychotic experiences has tended to be of little importance to biological psychiatry, with hallucinations and delusions being seen as symptoms of mental illness rather than meaningful experiences or responses to life circumstances.
Aims. This study aims to explore the thematic content of psychotic phenomena in a sample of clients with a first episode of psychosis.
Methods. The electronic medical records of 160 services users of two Early Intervention for Psychosis Services were comprehensively reviewed. A thematic analysis was used to explore the thematic content of psychotic symptoms recorded by healthcare professionals.
Results. The results illustrate 30 themes and 85 sub-themes. This includes delusional beliefs (e.g. “being harmed, attacked or killed”, “being monitored or followed by others”, “special powers or abilities”) and hallucinations (e.g. “commanding voice”, “derogatory/critical voice”, “commentary”).
Conclusions. The results illustrate the extensive and varied experience of psychosis within this sample. Based on the findings of this study, it is hoped that future research studies and mental health services will attend to the meaning and content of psychotic experiences
Performance of a tandem-rotor/tandem-stator conical-flow compressor designed for a pressure ratio of 3
A conical-flow compressor stage with a large radius change through the rotor was tested at three values of rotor tip clearance. The stage had a tandem rotor and a tandem stator. Peak efficiency at design speed was 0.774 at a pressure ratio of 2.613. The rotor was tested without the stator, and detailed survey data were obtained for each rotor blade row. Overall peak rotor efficiency was 0.871 at a pressure ratio of 2.952
Experimental performance of a 16.10-centimeter-tip-diameter sweptback centrifugal compressor designed for a 6:1 pressure ratio
A backswept impeller with design mass flow rate of 1.033 kg/sec was tested with both a vaned diffuser and a vaneless diffuser to establish stage and impeller characteristics. Design stage pressure ratio of 5.9:1 was attained at a flow slightly lower than the design value. Flow range at design speed was 6 percent of choking flow. Impeller axial tip clearance at design speed was varied to determine effect on stage and impeller performance
Experimental performance of a 13.65-centimeter-tip-diameter tandem-bladed sweptback centrifugal compressor designed for a pressure ratio of 6
A 13.65 cm tip diameter backswept centrifugal impeller having a tandem inducer and a design mass flow rate of 0.907 kg/sec was experimentally investigated to establish stage and impeller characteristics. Tests were conducted with both a cascade diffuser and a vaneless diffuser. A pressure ratio of 5.9 was obtained near surge for the smallest clearance tested. Flow range at design speed was 6.3 percent for the smallest clearance test. Impeller exit to shroud axial clearance at design speed was varied to determine the effect on stage and impeller performance
Effect of area ratio on the performance of a 5.5:1 pressure ratio centrifugal impeller
A centrifugal impeller which was initially designed for a pressure ratio of approximately 5.5 and a mass flow rate of 0.959 kg/sec was tested with a vaneless diffuser for a range of design point impeller area ratios from 2.322 to 2.945. The impeller area ratio was changed by successively cutting back the impeller exit axial width from an initial value of 7.57 mm to a final value of 5.97 mm. In all, four separate area ratios were tested. For each area ratio a series of impeller exit axial clearances was also tested. Test results are based on impeller exit surveys of total pressure, total temperature, and flow angle at a radius 1.115 times the impeller exit radius. Results of the tests at design speed, peak efficiency, and an exit tip clearance of 8 percent of exit blade height show that the impeller equivalent pressure recovery coefficient peaked at a design point area ratio of approximately 2.748 while the impeller aerodynamic efficiency peaked at a lower value of area ratio of approximately 2.55. The variation of impeller efficiency with clearance showed expected trends with a loss of approximately 0.4 points in impeller efficiency for each percent increase in exit axial tip clearance for all impellers tested

Calcium superoxide is prepared in high yields by spreading a quantity of calcium peroxide diperoxyhydrate on the surface of a container, positioning said container in a vacuum chamber on a support structure through which a coolant fluid can be circulated, partially evacuating said vacuum chamber, allowing the temperature of the diperoxyhydrate to reach the range of about 0 to about 40 C; maintaining the temperature selected for a period of time sufficient to complete the disproproriation of the diperoxyhydrate to calcium superoxide, calcium hydroxide, oxygen, and water; constantly and systematically removing the water as it is formed by sweeping the reacting material with a current of dry inert gas and/or by condensation of said water on a cold surface; backfilling the chamber with a dry inert gas; and finally, recovering the calcium superoxide produced
Monitoring of a Deep Basement in London
A deep basement in London Clay has been monitored throughout the entire duration of its excavation and construction, covering a period to date of over two and a half years. Measurements have provided a complete record of all aspects of the soil and structural behaviour. The high quality and regularity of the data, have enabled integration of diverse measurements which serve to identify important events in the history of the structure. The paper describes briefly the excavation and construction procedure, the measurements made. together with the installation methods employed. A selection of data covering a broad range of measurements is presented to illustrate some typical aspects of the interaction of the structure and the soil
Robot-Mediated Interviews with Children : What do potential users think?

This can make it difficult for an officer to maintain their composure without subtly indicating their shock to the child, which can in turn impede the information acquisition process. Using a robotic interviewer could eliminate this problem as the behaviours and expressions of the robot can be consciously controlled. To date research investigating the potential of Robot-Mediated Interviews has focused on establishing whether children will respond to robots in an interview scenario and if so how well. The results of these studies indicate that children will talk to a robot in an interview scenario in a similar way to which they talk to a human interviewer. However, in order to test if this approach would work in a real world setting, it is important to establish what the experts (e.g. specialist child interviewers) would require from the system. To determine the needs of the users we conducted a user panel with a group of potential real world users to gather their views of our current system and find out what they would require for the system to be useful to them. The user group we worked with consisted of specialist child protection police officers based in the UK. The findings from this panel suggest that a Robot-Mediated Interviewing system would need to be more flexible than our current system in order to respond to unpredictable situations and paths of investigation. Mixing with the radiofrequency single-electron transistor
By configuring a radio-frequency single-electron transistor as a mixer, we
demonstrate a unique implementation of this device, that achieves good charge
sensitivity with large bandwidth about a tunable center frequency. In our
implementation we achieve a measurement bandwidth of 16 MHz, with a tunable
center frequency from 0 to 1.2 GHz, demonstrated with the transistor operating
at 300 mK. Ultimately this device is limited in center frequency by the RC time
of the transistor's center island, which for our device is ~ 1.6 GHz, close to
the measured value. The measurement bandwidth is determined by the quality
