    AbstractIn this note we first establish a criterion for the conjugacy separability of HNN extensions of polycyclic-by-finite groups with central associated subgroups. Using this result, we prove the equivalence of residually finiteness and conjugacy separability in these HNN extensions. Then we prove that the outer automorphism groups of these HNN extensions are residually finite if the HNN extensions themselves are residually finite

    A 79 year-old patient with lung cancer underwent a standard thoracotomy and lobectomy. Postoperatively, he developed low-grade fever and dyspnoea. Chest X-rays showed progressive lung infiltrates, which was subsequently diagnosed to be Bronchiolitis Obliterans Organizing Pneumonia (BOOP) by transbronchial lung biopsy. He responded well to corticosteroid therapy. The case report is followed by a brief discussion on BOOP in association with lung cancer and thoracotomy

    A summary of the Schismatoglottis Multiflora Group of Hay & Yuzammi is presented and the group shown to comprise about 15 species, including that described here. Schismatoglottis iliata P. C. Boyce & S. Y. Wong is described as a taxonomic novelty from forested sandstone riverside bluffs of the Ulu Batang Kayan, Lundu District, Kuching Division, NW Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo, and compared with the morphologically most similar species, S. mayoana Bogner & M. Hotta and S. nicolsonii A. Hay, with which S. iliata shares leaf blades adaxially matt olive green and abaxially with very fine and dense (c. 2 veins per mm) pellucid secondary venation, and stamen thecae each with two pores. A key to this newly recognized S. mayoana Complex is provided, and all described species for the S. mayoana Complex are illustrated

    Schismatoglottis hayi S.Y. Wong & P.C. Boyce is described as a new species endemic to forested limestone outcrops at Niah National Park, NE Sarawak. It is morphologically most similar to S. multinervia M. Hotta, a species here redefined as being endemic to Mulu N.P., where it is obligated to limestone. Together these two species are proposed as constituting a new informal taxon, the Multinervia Complex, defined by the combination of vegetative tissues aromatic (terpenoids) when crushed, a fully adnate petiolar sheath, petioles and major veins abaxially pubescent, spathe limb darkening internally rapidly at onset of anthesis and thence splitting longitudinally into wide recurving strips, an hourglass-shaped spadix, and large staminodes in 1-2 rows at the junction of the pistillate zone with the spathe. Schismatoglottis hayi is, by modification to the existing key, included into a key to Bornean Schismatoglottis. Both species are illustrated. Previous confusion between S. hayi and S. puberulipes Alderw. is highlighted and clarified

    Beccari's Microcasia pygmaea has been recollected in Sarawak after almost 145 years. Examination reveals, contrary to recent taxonomic treatments, it to be a distinct species (of the genus Bucephalandra) not conspecific with Bucephalandra motleyana Schott. Microcasia pygmaea Becc. is here transferred to Bucephalandra as Bucephalandra pygmaea (Becc.) P.C. Boyce & S.Y. Wong, comb. nov. Notes on taxonomically critical morphologies are provided. Bucephalandra is now considered to comprise five published accepted species, elucidated in a new key. Notes on the taxonomy of Bucephalandra and Microcasia are given and Bucephalandra pygmaea is illustrated from living plants
