Lyman alpha line formation in starbursting galaxies II. Extremely Thick, Dustless, and Static HI Media
The Lya line transfer in an extremely thick medium of neutral hydrogen is
investigated by adopting an accelerating scheme in our Monte Carlo code to skip
a large number of core or resonant scatterings. This scheme reduces computing
time significantly with no sacrifice in the accuracy of the results. We applied
this numerical method to the Lya transfer in a static, uniform, dustless, and
plane-parallel medium. Two types of photon sources have been considered, the
midplane source and the uniformly distributed sources. The emergent profiles
show double peaks and absorption trough at the line-center. We compared our
results with the analytic solutions derived by previous researchers, and
confirmed that both solutions are in good agreement with each other. We
investigated the directionality of the emergent Lya photons and found that limb
brightening is observed in slightly thick media while limb darkening appears in
extremely thick media. The behavior of the directionality is noted to follow
that of the Thomson scattered radiation in electron clouds, because both Lya
wing scattering and Thomson scattering share the same Rayleigh scattering phase
function. The mean number of wing scatterings just before escape is in exact
agreement with the prediction of the diffusion approximation. The Lya photons
constituting the inner part of the emergent profiles follow the relationship
derived from the diffusion approximation. We present a brief discussion on the
application of our results to the formation of Lya broad absorption troughs and

Spatio-Temporal Pyramid Matching for Sports Videos
In this paper, we address the problem of querying video shots based on content-based matching. Our proposed system automatically partitions a video stream into video shots that maintain continuous movements of objects. Finding video shots of the same category is not an easy task because objects in a video shot change their locations over time. Our spatio-temporal pyramid matching (STPM) is the modified spatial pyramid matching (SPM) [15], which considers temporal information in conjunction with spatial locations to match objects in video shots. In addition, we model the mathematical condition in which temporal information contributes to match video shots. In order to improve the matching performance, dynamic features including movements of objects are considered in addition to static features such as edges of objects. In our experiments, several methods based on different feature sets and matching methods are compared, and our spatio-temporal pyramid matching performed better than existing methods in video matching for sports videos. 1
A Spectral Line Survey from 138.3 to 150.7 GHZ toward Orion-KL
We present the results of a spectral line survey from 138.3 to 150.7 GHz
toward Orion-KL. The observations were made using the 14 m radio telescope of
Taeduk Radio Astronomy Observatory. Typical system temperatures were between
500 and 700 K, with the sensitivity between K in units of .
A total of 149 line spectra are detected in this survey. Fifty lines have
been previously reported, however we find 99 new detections. Among these new
lines, 32 are `unidentified', while 67 are from molecular transitions with
known identifications. There is no detection of H or He recombination lines.
The identified spectra are from a total of 16 molecular species and their
isotopic variants. In the range from 138.3 to 150.7 GHz, the strongest spectral
line is the J=3-2 transition of CS molecule, followed by transitions of the
, , , and . Spectral lines from
the large organic molecules such as , , , and are prominent; with 80 % of the
identified lines arising from transitions of these molecules. The rotational
temperatures and column densities are derived using the standard rotation
diagram analysis for (), , and with and . These estimates are fairly comparable to the values for the

Faddeev-Jackiw Analysis of Topological Mass Generating Action
We analyze the gauge symmetry of a topological mass generating action in four
dimensions which contains both a vector and a second rank antisymmetric tensor
fields. In the Abelian case, this system induces an effective mass for the
vector gauge field via a topological coupling in the presence of a
kinetic term for the antisymmetric tensor field , while maintaining a gauge
symmetry. On the other hand, for the non-Abelian case the field does not
have a gauge symmetry unless an auxiliary vector field is introduced to the
system. We analyze this change of symmetry in the Faddeev-Jackiw formalism, and
show how the auxiliary vector field enhances the symmetry. At the same time
this enhanced gauge symmetry becomes reducible. We also show this phenomenon in

Topological band-order transition and quantum spin Hall edge engineering in functionalized X-Bi(111) (X = Ga, In, and Tl) bilayer
Functionalized X-Bi bilayers (X = Ga, In, and Tl) with halogens bonded on their both sides have been recently claimed to be the giant topological insulators due to the strong band inversion strengths. Employing the first-principles electronic structure calculation, we find the topological band order transition from the order p-p-s of the X-Bi bilayers with halogens on their both sides to the new order p-s-p of the bilayers (especially for X = Ga and In) with halogen on one side and hydrogen on the other side, where the asymmetric hydrogen bonding simulates the substrate. We further find that the p-s bulk band gap of the bilayer bearing the new order p-s-p sensitively depends on the electric field, which enables a meaningful engineering of the quantum spin Hall edge state by controlling the external electric field. © 2016 The Author(s).1
Remission of lymphoblastic leukaemia in an intravascular fluidic environment by pliable drug carrier with a sliding target ligand
A polyrotaxane-based nanoconstruct with pliable structure carrying a chemotherapeutic drug was developed for targeting circulating lymphoblastic leukaemia cells in a fluidic environment of blood vessels in vivo. By introducing lymphoblast targeting aptamer DNA through cyclodextrin, threaded in poly(ethylene glycol) as polyrotaxane, target aptamer slides along the long polymeric chain and actively search for target ligand, leading to active targeting in dynamic fluidic system which is enhanced by up to 6-fold compared with that of control carriers with non-sliding targeting ligands. Moreover, the drug carrier was made stimuli-responsive by employing i-motif DNA to selective releases of its payload at intracellular acidic condition. These combined features resulted in the effective remission of lymphoblastic leukaemia both in vitro and in dynamic blood vessels in vivo.1142Ysciescopu
Morphological changes of the lateral meniscus in end-stage lateral compartment osteoarthritis of the knee.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the morphological changes of the lateral meniscus in end-stage lateral compartment osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee. METHODS: One hundred fifty-eight knee joints from 133 patients that subsequently underwent total knee joint arthroplasty from January 2008 to December 2009 were enrolled. There were 26 men and 107 women. Their ages ranged from 56 to 81 (mean 67.4 + 6.5 years). All study participants had complete obliteration of the lateral joint space identified by weight-bearing radiography. Meniscal position was assessed by measuring meniscal subluxation and meniscal height. The meniscal morphology was assessed using a modification of the whole-organ magnetic resonance imaging score (WORMS). The frequency of different meniscal morphology and their respective positions was calculated. RESULTS: The predominant type (42.4%, 53.8% and 52.5% in the anterior horn, mid-body and posterior horn, respectively) of abnormal meniscal morphology was a complete maceration/destruction or complete resection. The anterior horn of non-macerated lateral meniscus was more subluxed than that of the non-macerated medial meniscus in patients with lateral OA. CONCLUSION: This study suggests that the lateral meniscus in persons with end-stage lateral OA are mostly macerated or destroyed. Also, unlike isolated end-staged medial compartment OA, the anterior horn of the lateral meniscus in isolated end-stage lateral OA is commonly affected. Chiral magnetoresistance in Pt/Co/Pt zigzag wires
The Rashba effect leads to a chiral precession of the spins of moving
electrons while the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) generates
preference towards a chiral profile of local spins. We predict that the
exchange interaction between these two spin systems results in a 'chiral'
magnetoresistance depending on the chirality of the local spin texture. We
observe this magnetoresistance by measuring the domain wall (DW) resistance in
a uniquely designed Pt/Co/Pt zigzag wire, and by changing the chirality of the
DW with applying an in-plane magnetic field. A chirality-dependent DW
resistance is found, and a quantitative analysis shows a good agreement with a
theory based on the Rashba model. Moreover, the DW resistance measurement
allows us to independently determine the strength of the Rashba effect and the
DMI simultaneously, and the result implies a possible correlation between the
Rashba effect, the DMI, and the symmetric Heisenberg exchange
Trends and Associated Factors of Use of Opioid, Heroin, and Cannabis Among Patients for Emergency Department Visits in Nevada: 2009–2017
To examine trends and contributing factors of opioid, heroin, and cannabis-associated emergency department (ED) visits in Nevada. The 2009 to 2017 Nevada State ED database (n = 7,950,554 ED visits) were used. Use of opioid, heroin, and cannabis, respectively, was identified by the International Classification of Diseases, 9th & 10th Revisions. Three multivariable models, one for each of the 3 dependent variables, were conducted. Independent variables included year, insurance status, race/ethnicity, use of other substance, and mental health conditions. The number of individuals with opioid, heroin, cannabis-associated ED visits increased 3%, 10%, and 23% annually from 2009 to 2015, particularly among 21 to 29 age group, females, and African Americans. Use of other substance (odds ratio [OR] = 3.91; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 3.84, 3.99; reference - no use of other substance), mental health conditions (OR = 2.48; 95% CI = 2.43, 2.53; reference – without mental health conditions), Medicaid (OR = 1.41; 95% CI = 1.38, 1.44; reference – non-Medicaid), Medicare (OR = 1.44; 95% CI = 1.39, 1.49; reference – non-Medicare) and uninsured patients (OR = 1.52; 95% CI = 1.49, 1.56; reference - insured) were predictors of all three substance-associated ED visits. With a steady increase in trends of opioid, heroin, and cannabis-associated ED visits in recent years, the main contributing factors include patient sociodemographic factors, mental health conditions, and use of other substances
