De Noordkromp

De Noordkromp (Arctica islandica) is een tweekleppig schelpdier waarvan individuen een leeftijd kunnen bereiken van ver boven de 100 jaar. Het is een kenmerkende soort voor de wat diepere en koudere delen van de Noordzee. Omdat de Noordkromp langzaam uit het zuidelijk deel van zijn verspreidingsgebied in de Noordzee lijkt te verdwijnen, speelt ze als OSPAR soort dan ook een prominente rol in de discussie en aanwijzing van beschermde gebieden. Within the North Sea the southernmost distribution limit of Arctica follows the 30 m depth contour. This border is most likely set by the maximum bottom water temperature of 16 graden. Densities of 16 individuals/m2 were found in the northern North Sea. In the south-eastern North Sea the maximum density of 0.1 ind./m2 is low, especially compared to those around Iceland or the western Atlantic. In the south-eastern North Sea the densities decreased between the 1970s and the early 1990s. Both the percentage of sampling stations and the corresponding densities decreased. Basisinformatie over de Borkumer Stenen, Bruine Bank en Gasfonteinen, potentieel te beschermen gebieden op het NCP

In dit rapport worden drie gebieden in de Noordzee nader beschouwd: de Borkumer Stenen, Gasfonteinen en de Bruine Bank, zoals aangekondigd in het in 2005 verschenen rapport ‘Gebieden met bijzondere ecologische waarden op het Nederlands Continentaal Plat’ (Lindeboom et al. 2005). De informatie in dit rapport is bijeen gebracht door middel van literatuuronderzoek en een korte veldstudie. De studie is uitgevoerd om te beoordelen of de Borkumer Stenen, Gasfonteinen en de Bruine Bank ook als Natura 2000 gebieden zouden kunnen worden aangemerkt

Ruimtelijke en temporele patronen in de diversiteit van de macrobentische infauna op het Nederlands Continentaal Plat

In opdracht van het Planbureau voor de Leefomgeving is een overzicht gemaakt van ruimtelijke en temporele verschillen in de diversiteit van het benthos op het Nederlands Continentaal Plat. Voor de berekeningen werd gebruik gemaakt van de meetgegevens van het landelijke monitoringprogramma MWTL (Monitoring van de Waterstaatkundige Toestand des Lands). In dit rapport zijn de macrobenthos-gegevens van de periode 1991-2005 geanalyseerd. Globaal gezien blijken er in de periode 1991-2005 weinig, hoogstens kleine, veranderingen in de biodiversiteit van de macrobenthische infauna. Study for the Revision of the plaice box - Draft Final Report

This project has attempted to evaluate the effectiveness of the fisheries management measure known as the “Plaice Box” (PB) for the conservation of plaice and other species of marine organisms in the south-eastern North Sea. The study provides an inventory of existing information and collects new material on the effects of the PB on the conservation of plaice and the impact of the PB on various components of the commercial fishing fleets. Based on an analysis of key processes that affect the impact of the PB, modifications will be explored to improve the positive effect on the conservation of plaice and other species of marine organisms, including catches and bycatches of other marketable fish. An economic assessment of the consequences of those modifications, in terms of their cost-effectiveness, and implications for profitability of the activity is presented. Finally, the data requirements for future evaluations of the effects of the PB on conservation is discussed
