Which long-baseline neutrino experiments are preferable?
We discuss the physics of superbeam upgrades, where we focus on T2KK, a NuMI
beam line based experiment NOvA*, and a wide band beam (WBB) experiment
independent of the NuMI beam line. For T2KK, we find that the Japan-Korea
baseline helps resolve parameter degeneracies, but the improvement due to
correlated systematics between the two detectors (using identical detectors) is
only moderate. For an upgrade of NOvA with a liquid argon detector, we
demonstrate that the Ash River site is preferred compared to alternatives, such
as at the second oscillation maximum, and is the optimal site within the U.S.
For a WBB experiment, we find that high proton energies and long decay tunnels
are preferable. We compare water Cherenkov and liquid argon technologies, and
find the break-even point in detector cost at about 4:1. In order to compare
the physics potential of the different experimental configurations, we use the
concept of exposure to normalize the performance. We find that experiments with
WBBs are the best experimental concept. NOvA* could be competitive with
sufficient luminosity. If > 0.01, a WBB experiment can

Open Source Dataset and Machine Learning Techniques for Automatic Recognition of Historical Graffiti
Machine learning techniques are presented for automatic recognition of the
historical letters (XI-XVIII centuries) carved on the stoned walls of St.Sophia
cathedral in Kyiv (Ukraine). A new image dataset of these carved Glagolitic and
Cyrillic letters (CGCL) was assembled and pre-processed for recognition and
prediction by machine learning methods. The dataset consists of more than 4000
images for 34 types of letters. The explanatory data analysis of CGCL and
notMNIST datasets shown that the carved letters can hardly be differentiated by
dimensionality reduction methods, for example, by t-distributed stochastic
neighbor embedding (tSNE) due to the worse letter representation by stone
carving in comparison to hand writing. The multinomial logistic regression
(MLR) and a 2D convolutional neural network (CNN) models were applied. The MLR
model demonstrated the area under curve (AUC) values for receiver operating
characteristic (ROC) are not lower than 0.92 and 0.60 for notMNIST and CGCL,
respectively. The CNN model gave AUC values close to 0.99 for both notMNIST and
CGCL (despite the much smaller size and quality of CGCL in comparison to
notMNIST) under condition of the high lossy data augmentation. CGCL dataset was
published to be available for the data science community as an open source

Results from Super-Kamiokande
The recent results from Super-Kamiokande (SK) are reported. On atmospheric
neutrino analysis, we have performed a full 3-flavor oscillation analysis with
SK-I+II+III data. A CPT violation study on atmospheric neutrino is also done
with SK-I+II+III data. On solar neutrino analysis, a 3-flavor oscillation

Telavancin for the treatment of nosocomial pneumonia caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)
Telavancin is a bactericidal lipoglycopeptide antibiotic that is structurally related to vancomycin. It demonstrates in vitro activity against a variety of Gram-positive pathogens including, but not limited to, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Telavancin is currently FDA-approved for the treatment of complicated skin and skin-structure infections. Recently, two randomized clinical trials demonstrated the efficacy and safety of telavancin compared to vancomycin for the treatment of nosocomial pneumonia. Overall, telavancin has a favorable safety profile. However, mild gastrointestinal disturbances and reversible increases in serum creatinine were observed in clinical studies. Additional clinical studies are needed to evaluate telavancinâs efficacy and safety in comparison to other antistaphylococcal agents for the treatment of infections such as bacteremia and endocarditis
Conservation of a microRNA cluster in parasitic nematodes and profiling of miRNAs in excretory-secretory products and microvesicles of Haemonchus contortus
microRNAs are small non-coding RNAs that are important regulators of gene expression in a range of animals, including nematodes. We have analysed a cluster of four miRNAs from the pathogenic nematode species Haemonchus contortus that are closely linked in the genome. We find that the cluster is conserved only in clade V parasitic nematodes and in some ascarids, but not in other clade III species nor in clade V free-living nematodes. Members of the cluster are present in parasite excretory-secretory products and can be detected in the abomasum and draining lymph nodes of infected sheep, indicating their release in vitro and in vivo. As observed for other parasitic nematodes, H. contortus adult worms release extracellular vesicles (EV). Small RNA libraries were prepared from vesicle-enriched and vesicle-depleted supernatants from both adult worms and L4 stage larvae. Comparison of the miRNA species in the different fractions indicated that specific miRNAs are packaged within vesicles, while others are more abundant in vesicle-depleted supernatant. Hierarchical clustering analysis indicated that the gut is the likely source of vesicle-associated miRNAs in the L4 stage, but not in the adult worm. These findings add to the growing body of work demonstrating that miRNAs released from parasitic helminths may play an important role in host-parasite interactions
How a plantar pressure-based, tongue-placed tactile biofeedback modifies postural control mechanisms during quiet standing
The purpose of the present study was to determine the effects of a plantar
pressure-based, tongue-placed tactile biofeedback on postural control
mechanisms during quiet standing. To this aim, sixteen young healthy adults
were asked to stand as immobile as possible with their eyes closed in two
conditions of No-biofeedback and Biofeedback. Centre of foot pressure (CoP)
displacements, recorded using a force platform, were used to compute the
horizontal displacements of the vertical projection the centre of gravity
(CoGh) and those of the difference between the CoP and the vertical projection
of the CoG (CoP-CoGv). Altogether, the present findings suggest that the main
way the plantar pressure-based, tongue-placed tactile biofeedback improves
postural control during quiet standing is via both a reduction of the
correction thresholds and an increased efficiency of the corrective mechanism
involving the CoGh displacements
Hyperon Form Factors from N_f=2+1 QCD
We present results from the QCDSF/UKQCD collaboration for the electromagnetic
and semi-leptonic form factors for the hyperons. The simulations are performed
on our new ensembles generated with 2+1 flavours of dynamical O(a)-improved
Wilson fermions. A unique feature of these configurations is that the quark
masses are tuned so that the singlet quark mass is held fixed at its physical
value. We use 5 such choices of the individual quark masses on 24^3x48 lattices
