"Warm season annuals are excellent supplemental forages for summer grazing. They are heat tolerant and very productive when moisture and fertility are available. They furnish high quality when grazed but have some deficiencies when used for hay or silage."--First page.Howell N. Wheaton (Department of Agronomy, College of Agriculture)New 10/82/10

"White clover is a stoloniferous plant with a shallow root system. The primary stems of white clover usually die before the second year, and the life of the plant depends upon the stolons and their haphazard roots."--First page.Jimmy C. Henning and Howell N. Seeding mixtures for hay, pasture and silage

    Get PDF
"For best results from pasture and hay crops, keep seeding mixtures simple. Grasses and legumes that are sown in combination should be similar in palatability, maturity patterns and growing vigor. Because of the differences between grasses, it is recommended that each mixture contain only one grass and one or two legumes. For example, seeding tall fescue and orchardgrass in the same mixture results in spotty grazing and wasted forage because of the differences in palatability."--First page.H.N. Wheaton and Jimmy C. "Avoid forage seeding failures by using research-proven procedures. Seeding failures are costly, not only in seed and labor costs, but in providing inadequate feed the following year."--First page.Jimmy C. Henning and H.N. Wheaton (Department of Agronomy, College of Agriculture)Revised 9/89/7
