ObjectivesTo study the socio-demographic characteristics and the prevalence of depression, anxiety, and stress among clinical therapists in China during the early Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and to identify associated factors.MethodThis cross-sectional study was part of a multicenter, nationally representative survey conducted through WeChat from January 2021 to March 2021. Data, including socio-demographics, health-related behaviors, and information on whether they participated in the frontline work of treating COVID-19, were collected anonymously. Respondents also completed the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales-21 (DASS-21).ResultsIn total, 396 clinical therapists in the selected hospitals completed the questionnaires, with a response rate of 89.0%. Respondents were predominantly female (77.3%). About 6.6% of the participants were current tobacco users, and 20.7% had participated in the frontline work of treating COVID-19. Overall, 22.0%, 17.9%, and 8.8% of participants were classified as having clinically meaningful depression, anxiety, and stress, respectively, based on DASS-21 scores. Multiple logistic regression in Model 1 and Model 2 showed that depression, anxiety, and stress were associated with regular physical activity and frequent insomnia (all, p < 0.05). In anxiety model 2, the associated factors for anxiety during the pandemic were identified as education (master’s degree or more, OR=0.520; 95% CI=0.283-0.955), marital status (single, OR=2.064; 95% CI=1.022-4.168), tobacco use (OR=4.265; 95% CI=1.352-13.454), regular physical activity (OR=0.357; 95% CI=0.192-0.663), frequent insomnia (OR=6.298; 95% CI =2.522-15.729), and participation in the frontline work of treating COVID-19 (OR=3.179; 95% CI=1.697-5.954). The COVID-19 epidemic did not significantly increase the depression and stress levels among clinical therapists, but it did significantly increase anxiety levels.ConclusionDuring the COVID-19 pandemic, depression, anxiety and stress were relatively common among clinical therapists in China. Regular physical activity and good sleep were important protective factors against emotional problems. Therefore, encouraging regular physical activity and actively addressing clinical therapists’ sleep problems is beneficial to improving the ability to cope with negative emotions. The COVID-19 epidemic significantly increased anxiety, and awareness and interventions should be recommended to reduce anxiety among clinical therapists during the COVID-19 pandemic

ObjectiveTo observe and analyze the surgical efficacy of arthroscopic debridement of calcified deposits and arthroscopic debridement combined with subacromial decompression in patients with supraspinatus tendon calcific myositis. To observe the effect of Subacromial decompression on the efficacy of arthroscopic treatment of shoulder calcific tendinitis.Patients and methodsFrom 2016 to 2021, 48 cases of shoulder arthroscopic debridement due to supraspinatus calcific tendinitis met the inclusion criteria and were included, with 24 cases assigned to the arthroscopic debridement group and 24 cases to the arthroscopic debridement combined with subacromial decompression group. Changes between preoperative and postoperative shoulder pain and shoulder function were statistically analyzed.ResultsThe 24 patients in the arthroscopic debridement group were better than the arthroscopic debridement combined with subacromial decompression group in terms of short-term postoperative shoulder pain and shoulder joint function recovery (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in the postoperative long-term shoulder pain and shoulder function recovery between the two groups (P > 0.05).ConclusionsCompared with arthroscopic debridement combined with subacromial decompression, arthroscopic debridement alone is a better surgical option for the treatment of calcific tendinitis

BackgroundPrevious evidence suggested that physical activity had beneficial effects on psychopathological symptoms, insomnia, or depressive symptoms in people with schizophrenia. This study investigated the association between physical activity levels and insomnia and depressive symptoms in middle-aged and elderly hospitalized patients with chronic schizophrenia (CS).Methods179 participants were enrolled. We used the 30-item Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS–30) to assess the psychopathological symptoms. We used the Insomnia Severity Index scale (ISI) and 17-item Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD-17) to evaluate insomnia and depressive symptoms. Daily physical activity time less than 30 min, within 30–60 min, and more than 60 min were defined as physical inactivity, moderate physical activity, and vigorous physical activity, respectively. The Chi-square test, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and Mann–Whitney U-test were applied for categorical, continuous, and non-normal distribution variables, respectively. The Pearson or Spearman’s correlation analyses were utilized to examine the association between physical activity levels, ISI total scores, HAMD total scores, and socio-demographic and clinical variables. Finally, socio-demographic variables with a P-value < 0.05 in the comparison between insomnia/depressive group and non-insomnia/depressive group were considered for inclusion in binary logistic regression analysis to determine the relationship between physical activity levels and insomnia or depressive symptoms.ResultsThe ISI total scores (r = –0.247, P = 0.001) and HAMD total scores (r = –0.312, P < 0.001) were negatively correlated with physical activity levels. Logistic regression analysis revealed that older age, higher depressive factor scores, and lower physical activity level were influential factors of insomnia symptoms in CS patients (P < 0.05). In addition, vigorous physical activity (compared with physical inactivity) and higher negative and depressive factor scores were independently associated with depressive symptoms in CS patients (P < 0.05).ConclusionPhysical activity levels were influential factors in comorbid insomnia and depressive symptoms in CS patients. Given the benefits of physical activity, it should be strengthened as a routine adjunct to clinical treatment or psychiatric care so as to improve the physical and mental health of patients with psychiatric symptoms

    Understanding Dropouts in MOOCs

Massive open online courses (MOOCs) have developed rapidly in recent years, and have attracted millions of online users. However, a central challenge is the extremely high dropout rate — recent reports show that the completion rate in MOOCs is below 5% (Onah, Sinclair, and Boyatt 2014; Kizilcec, Piech, and Schneider 2013; Seaton et al. 2014).What are the major factors that cause the users to drop out? What are the major motivations for the users to study in MOOCs? In this paper, employing a dataset from XuetangX1, one of the largest MOOCs in China, we conduct a systematical study for the dropout problem in MOOCs. We found that the users’ learning behavior can be clustered into several distinct categories. Our statistics also reveal high correlation between dropouts of different courses and strong influence between friends’ dropout behaviors. Based on the gained insights, we propose a Context-aware Feature Interaction Network (CFIN) to model and to predict users’ dropout behavior. CFIN utilizes context-smoothing technique to smooth feature values with different context, and use attention mechanism to combine user and course information into the modeling framework. Experiments on two large datasets show that the proposed method achieves better performance than several state-of-the-art methods. The proposed method model has been deployed on a real system to help improve user retention

Quantitative fluorimetric analysis of plant nicotinamide

Fluorimetry was used to measure the amount of nicotinamide in plant samples. The nicotinamide was extracted and purified from plant tissues with ethyl acetate; converted to the fluorescent derivative, N1-methylnicotinamide, by reacting with methyl iodide; and quantified according to its fluorescent strength. The nicotinamide in the leaf tissue of ten kinds of plants was measured, and the results showed that the nicotinamide content for different plants varied from 0.1 to 3.0 mg/g of fresh leaf weight. In addition, the crossing value of the fluorescent strength and the nicotinamide amount demonstrated that the linear correlation coefficient generally reached 0.997, with a detectable limit of 0.02 mg/L and the relative standard deviation of less than 9%. The results suggested that this method of quantifying nicotinamide in plants is useful and beneficial for functional research

Hierarchical Sub-Pixel Anomaly Detection Framework for Hyperspectral Imagery

    No full text
Anomaly detection is an important task in hyperspectral processing. Some previous works, based on statistical information, focus on Reed-Xiaoli (RX), as it is one of the most classical and commonly used methods. However, its performance tends to be affected when anomaly target size is smaller than spatial resolution. Those sub-pixel anomaly target spectra are usually much similar with background spectra, and may results in false alarm for traditional RX method. To address this issue, this paper proposes a hierarchical RX (H-RX) anomaly detection framework to enhance the performance. The proposed H-RX method consists of several different layers of original RX anomaly detector. In each layer, the RX’s output of each pixel is restrained by a nonlinear function and then imposed as a coefficient on its spectrum for the next iteration. Furthermore, we design a spatial regularization layer to enhance the sub-pixel anomaly detection performance. To better illustrate the hierarchical framework, we provide a theoretical explanation of the hierarchical background spectra restraint and regularization process. Extensive experiments on three hyperspectral images illustrate that the proposed anomaly detection algorithm outperforms the original RX algorithm and some other classical methods

Based on the geochemical characteristics of Lower Paleozoic gases from 154 most recently drilled wells and their genetic type, in combination with the organic abundance evaluation of 733 core samples from the Lower Paleozoic, the origin of Lower Paleozoic gases in Ordos Basin was discussed. According to the carbon isotope data of paraffin gases in the gas samples and the geological background, the Lower Paleozoic gases are divided into three types and four sub-types: (1) the coal-derived gas generated from the Upper Paleozoic coaly source rock; (2) the oil-associated gas sourced from the Lower Paleozoic source rock, and (3) the mixing gas originated from the Upper Paleozoic coaly source rock and Paleozoic limestone, and the mixing gas can be divided into two sub-types, the mixing gas of positive carbon isotopic series and that of negative carbon isotopic series. From the TOC and organic maceral results of Lower Paleozoic source rock, the samples below salt have an average TOC of 0.3%, with 28.2% of them having TOC>0.4%, the kerogen type being sapropel type, showing great gas generating potential. The Lower Paleozoic gases are primarily coal-derived gas generated from the Upper Paleozoic coal, some oil-associated gas of self-source and self-reservoir can be found in pre-salt reservoirs in the central-eastern basin, where the developed source rock can serve as the source of some Lower Paleozoic gas.
