Individual Style After The End Of Art
In The Transfiguration of the Commonplace (1981)1 Arthur Danto construes individual style as something “given” that belongs to the artist “essentially” and “inseparably.” By contrast, his theory of the end of art, set forth in After the End of Art (1997) and elsewhere,2 suggests the liberation of artists from any stylistic commitments. How do these two theories go together? Can there be individual styles after the end of art? Examining the compatibility between Danto’s end of art thesis and his essentialist conception of individual style, this paper tries to approach an answer to these questions
Machine Protection and Operation for LHC
Since 2010 the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the accelerator with the
highest stored energy per beam, with a record of 140 MJ at a beam energy of 4
TeV, almost a factor of 50 higher than other accelerators. With such a high
stored energy, machine protection aspects set the boundary conditions for
operation during all phases of the machine cycle. Only the low-intensity
commissioning beams can be considered as relatively safe. This document
discusses the interplay of machine operation and machine protection at the LHC,
from commissioning to regular operation.Comment: 25 pages, contribution to the 2014 Joint International Accelerator

Conservation Easement Outreach Project, Wenninger
Stratham voters approved a 5 million dollar conservation bond issue in 2002 to preserve open space through easement or outright purchase. The Ad-hoc Conservation Bond Subcommittee to the Conservation Commission is helping achieve Stratham’s open space goals and is continuing to reach out to landowners that have undeveloped land that may be suitable for Stratham’s open space initiative. It was an opportune time for the subcommittee to provide updated outreach materials when a grant by the Natural Resources Outreach Coalition (NROC) Implementation Grant Program became available. The grant, managed by the New Hampshire Estuaries Project, provided funding to produce and mail an updated full color tri-fold brochure to each resident household that provided information on the open space initiative and achievements after approximately 2 1/2 years of work. It also provided funding to update workbooks provided to landowners that are interested in conservation easements
Linear Imperfections
This lecture gives an overview of the impacts on linear machine optics of
machine imperfections due to incorrect field settings and misalignments. The
effects of imperfections in dipole, quadrupole, and sextupole magnets are
presented, along with beam observables and correction techniques that may be
used to restore the nominal machine parameters. The main concepts of orbit
correction are discussed in detail, because the principles underlying those
techniques can be used for other corrections.Comment: 30 pages, contribution to the CAS - CERN Accelerator School: Beam

The emerging role of banks in e-commerce
How is the banking industry responding to the rapid development of on-line commerce? Evidence suggests that many banks are beginning to deliver credit and deposit products electronically. In addition, some large banks are developing products designed exclusively for e-commerce. As banks venture into the electronic arena, however, they are finding that new opportunities bring new operational and strategic risks.Electronic commerce ; Banks and banking - Customer services
Response Matrix and Dispersion Study of the TI2 Transfer Line
The optics of the TI2 transfer line was studied with beam trajectories during its commissioning in October 2007. The optics and the quality of the steering magnets and of the beam position monitors were determined from steering magnet response measurements. A strength error of the main quadrupoles was identified with this technique. The dispersion was measured and found to be close to the nominal value
