Multiagent Bidirectionally-Coordinated Nets: Emergence of Human-level Coordination in Learning to Play StarCraft Combat Games

Many artificial intelligence (AI) applications often require multiple intelligent agents to work in a collaborative effort. Efficient learning for intra-agent communication and coordination is an indispensable step towards general AI. In this paper, we take StarCraft combat game as a case study, where the task is to coordinate multiple agents as a team to defeat their enemies. To maintain a scalable yet effective communication protocol, we introduce a Multiagent Bidirectionally-Coordinated Network (BiCNet ['bIknet]) with a vectorised extension of actor-critic formulation. We show that BiCNet can handle different types of combats with arbitrary numbers of AI agents for both sides. Our analysis demonstrates that without any supervisions such as human demonstrations or labelled data, BiCNet could learn various types of advanced coordination strategies that have been commonly used by experienced game players. In our experiments, we evaluate our approach against multiple baselines under different scenarios; it shows state-of-the-art performance, and possesses potential values for large-scale real-world applications.Comment: 10 pages, 10 figures. In the molecule of the title compound, C20H19N5O, the pyrazole and oxadiazole rings are not completely conjugated, the dihedral angle between them being 7.97 (6)°. The pyrazole and oxadiazole rings form dihedral angles of 42.74 (6) and 4.35 (5)° with the attached phenyl and benzene rings, respectively

A second orthorhombic polymorph of 3,5-diphenyl-4H-1,2,4-triazol-4-amine

The present crystal structure is the second orthorhombic polymorph of the title compound, C14H12N4. Whereas the structure in Pnma with Z′ = 0.5 is already known [Ikemi et al. (2002 ▶). Heterocycl. Commun. 8, 439–442], the present structure crystallizes in the space group Pbca with Z′ = 1. The dihedral angle between the two phenyl rings is 23.5 (4)° and the dihedral angles between central ring and the phenyl rings are 41.0 (3) and 26.3 (5)°. In the 4-amino-1,2,4-trizole fragment, the C=N distances are 1.321 (3) and 1.315 (3) Å, which are much shorter than the C—N distances of 1.367 (3) and 1.357 (3) Å. In the crystal, adjacent molecules are linked by N—H⋯N hydrogen bonds

BeSS: An R Package for Best Subset Selection in Linear, Logistic and Cox Proportional Hazards Models

We introduce a new R package, BeSS, for solving the best subset selection problem in linear, logistic and Cox's proportional hazard (CoxPH) models. It utilizes a highly efficient active set algorithm based on primal and dual variables, and supports sequential and golden search strategies for best subset selection. We provide a C++ implementation of the algorithm using an Rcpp interface. We demonstrate through numerical experiments based on enormous simulation and real datasets that the new BeSS package has competitive performance compared to other R packages for best subset selection purposes

    Noise in Genotype Selection Model

We study the steady state properties of a genotype selection model in presence of correlated Gaussian white noise. The effect of the noise on the genotype selection model is discussed. It is found that correlated noise can break the balance of gene selection and induce the phase transition which can makes us select one type gene haploid from a gene group.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figure

Current Reversals in a inhomogeneous system with asymmetric unbiased fluctuations

We present a study of transport of a Brownian particle moving in periodic symmetric potential in the presence of asymmetric unbiased fluctuations. The particle is considered to move in a medium with periodic space dependent friction. By tuning the parameters of the system, the direction of current exhibit reversals, both as a function of temperature as well as the amplitude of rocking force. We found that the mutual interplay between the opposite driving factors is the necessary term for current reversals.Comment: 9 pages, 7 figure
