Identifying vital edges in Chinese air route network via memetic algorithm
Due to its rapid development in the past decade, air transportation system
has attracted considerable research attention from diverse communities. While
most of the previous studies focused on airline networks, here we
systematically explore the robustness of the Chinese air route network, and
identify the vital edges which form the backbone of Chinese air transportation
system. Specifically, we employ a memetic algorithm to minimize the network
robustness after removing certain edges hence the solution of this model is the
set of vital edges. Counterintuitively, our results show that the most vital
edges are not necessarily the edges of highest topological importance, for
which we provide an extensive explanation from the microscope of view. Our
findings also offer new insights to understanding and optimizing other
real-world network systems
Robust Time Series Dissimilarity Measure for Outlier Detection and Periodicity Detection
Dynamic time warping (DTW) is an effective dissimilarity measure in many time
series applications. Despite its popularity, it is prone to noises and
outliers, which leads to singularity problem and bias in the measurement. The
time complexity of DTW is quadratic to the length of time series, making it
inapplicable in real-time applications. In this paper, we propose a novel time
series dissimilarity measure named RobustDTW to reduce the effects of noises
and outliers. Specifically, the RobustDTW estimates the trend and optimizes the
time warp in an alternating manner by utilizing our designed temporal graph
trend filtering. To improve efficiency, we propose a multi-level framework that
estimates the trend and the warp function at a lower resolution, and then
repeatedly refines them at a higher resolution. Based on the proposed
RobustDTW, we further extend it to periodicity detection and outlier time
series detection. Experiments on real-world datasets demonstrate the superior
performance of RobustDTW compared to DTW variants in both outlier time series
detection and periodicity detection
QCD corrections to the R-parity violating processes at hadron colliders
We present the QCD corrections to the processes at
the Tevatron and the CERN large hadron collider(LHC). The numerical results
show that variation of K factor is in the range between and
at the Tevatron(LHC). We find that the QCD correction part from
the one-loop gluon-gluon fusion subprocess is remarkable at the LHC and should
be taken into account.Comment: 7 pages, 6 Postscript figures, to be appeared in Phy. Rev.
Load-balanced parallel banded-system solvers
AbstractSolving banded systems is important in the applications of science and engineering. This paper presents a load-balancing strategy for solving banded systems in parallel when the number of processors used is small. An optimization-based load-balancing analysis is given to determine how many loads should be assigned to each processor in order to minimize the time requirement. Some experimentations are carried out on the nCUBE 2E multiprocessor to demonstrate the speedup advantage of the proposed load-balancing strategy. The speedup improvement ratio ranges from 47% to 66% (from 12% to 24%) when using 4 (8) processors
