Model W-5 of the Polish Economy: General Assumptions and the First Empirical Results
Zadanie pt. „Digitalizacja i udostępnienie w Cyfrowym Repozytorium Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego kolekcji czasopism naukowych wydawanych przez Uniwersytet Łódzki” nr 885/P-DUN/2014 zostało dofinansowane ze środków MNiSW w ramach działalności upowszechniającej nauk
Multicountry and Regional Macroeconometric Models
Multicountry models were developed in the previous century to serve the analyses and projections of the world economy and/or its regions (for instance Latin America). They distinguish the largest countries and the rest of the world (ROW) composed of particular countries. Hence, their structure is based on the specifications of equations for individual countries using full statistical information available at the countries level. The regional macroeconomic models are built for either administrative or geographical units distinguished within large countries (USA, China, Russia). Their structure should be in principle similar to those of the national economy. However, the statistical information of the regional economies is typically uncomplete: no sufficient information is available on exports and imports of the region, migrations and financial flows. Appropriate approximations are necessary. As in majority of countries the prices and wages movements are in general unified over the country, the variables representing the national level excerpt an impact on the regional variables. The regional impact on the national variables is rather unusual. The paper shows the skeleton model applied in the multicountry models and the skeleton of the macroeconomic regional model. The specific properties of the regional model are discussed and the possibilities of its extensions analysed. Wymaga to odpowiednich aproksymacji. Ponieważ w wielu krajach dynamika cen i plac przebiega w sposób podobny w skali kraju - wprowadza się do modeli regionalnych zmienne dotyczące całego kraju.

This paper presents alternative estimates of the natural rate of unemployment (NAWRU,
NAIRU) for Poland for the years 1990–2008. The estimation process utilizes sequentially
procedures based on the classical and the modified Phillips curve, the structural price-wage models
as well as approach that uses the reduced form of the Phillips curve.
The comparison of the results leads to the conclusion that the natural rates of unemployment
estimated by different methods are generally close to each other and do not differ significantly
from the observed values. The conducted analysis indicates that the relation of the natural rate
of unemployment and the rate of registered unemployment may signal a change of the inflation
pressures, which in turn can be used by the Monetary Policy Council
Modelowanie inwestycji a gospodarka oparta na wiedzy
Investments are the major factor of economic growth, however, their importance
is diminishing in the knowledge-based economies because of the rising role of the absorption
of knowledge capital.
In the process of investment modelling, except for the accelerator rule, an important role
is played by the neoclassical concept of investment user costs. It needs extensions covering
the impacts of investment risks.
In a knowledge-based economy the impacts of knowledge capital absorption, especially
the capital transferred from abroad (e.g. due to FDI) have gained great importance.
The paper shows the tendencies in the further development of investment models and several
empirical results obtained for Poland
The structural model of the Lodz region - scenarios of regional development
. Prospects for regional development are the subject of wide interest to the
authorities and the academic community. This interest is reflected LORIS VISION
project, including the regional technology foresight. The part of the project was to
built a macroeconometric structural model of the Lodź region "Loris", which to-
gether with the adapted model of the Polish economy W8-LW provides a tool in
economic analysis. In this paper the structure of the model and the results of eco-
nomic analysis for the Lodz region resulting from the assumptions and solutions of
the models are prezented. An attempt to quantify the impact of changing external
conditions and remedial actions for the development of the Polish economy and the
region. Accepted assumptions resulted directly from the earlier rounds of Delphi
surveys conducted within the project Loris Vision. It has been shown that a change
in assumptions and taking action locally obsen/ed so far go beyond the framework
may lead to changes in growth rates and achieve different levels of development of
the region, increased its share in domestic production or growth of population
wealth
