Learning a Disentangled Embedding for Monocular 3D Shape Retrieval and Pose Estimation
We propose a novel approach to jointly perform 3D shape retrieval and pose
estimation from monocular images. In order to make the method robust to
real-world image variations, e.g. complex textures and backgrounds, we learn an
embedding space from 3D data that only includes the relevant information,
namely the shape and pose. Our approach explicitly disentangles a shape vector
and a pose vector, which alleviates both pose bias for 3D shape retrieval and
categorical bias for pose estimation. We then train a CNN to map the images to
this embedding space, and then retrieve the closest 3D shape from the database
and estimate the 6D pose of the object. Our method achieves 10.3 median error
for pose estimation and 0.592 top-1-accuracy for category agnostic 3D object
retrieval on the Pascal3D+ dataset, outperforming the previous state-of-the-art
methods on both tasks
Directional Source Separation for Robust Speech Recognition on Smart Glasses
Modern smart glasses leverage advanced audio sensing and machine learning
technologies to offer real-time transcribing and captioning services,
considerably enriching human experiences in daily communications. However, such
systems frequently encounter challenges related to environmental noises,
resulting in degradation to speech recognition and speaker change detection. To
improve voice quality, this work investigates directional source separation
using the multi-microphone array. We first explore multiple beamformers to
assist source separation modeling by strengthening the directional properties
of speech signals. In addition to relying on predetermined beamformers, we
investigate neural beamforming in multi-channel source separation,
demonstrating that automatic learning directional characteristics effectively
improves separation quality. We further compare the ASR performance leveraging
separated outputs to noisy inputs. Our results show that directional source
separation benefits ASR for the wearer but not for the conversation partner.
Lastly, we perform the joint training of the directional source separation and
ASR model, achieving the best overall ASR performance.Comment: Submitted to ICASSP 202
Effect of ultrasonic degradation on the physicochemical property and bioactivity of polysaccharide produced by Chaetomium globosum CGMCC 6882
Similar to the enzymatic process, there might also be an active fragment in polysaccharides, how to obtain is important for investigating the bioactivity and pharmacological mechanism of polysaccharides. Presently, a Gynostemma pentaphyllum endophytic fungus Chaetomium globosum CGMCC 6882 polysaccharide [Genistein Combined Polysaccharide (GCP)] was degraded by ultrasonic treatment, two polysaccharide fragments of GCP-F1 and GCP-F2 were obtained. Physicochemical results showed that GCP-F1 and GCP-F2 had the same monosaccharide composition of arabinose, galactose, glucose, xylose, mannose, and glucuronic acid as compared to GCP with slightly different molar ratios. However, weight-average molecular weights of GCP-F1 and GCP-F2 decreased from 8.093 × 104 Da (GCP) to 3.158 × 104 Da and 1.027 × 104 Da, respectively. In vitro scavenging assays illustrated that GCP-F1 and GCP-F2 had higher antioxidant activity against 2,2′-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS) radical, 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical, superoxide anions, and hydroxyl radical than GCP, the order was GCP < GCP-F1 < GCP-F2. Meanwhile, antibacterial tests showed that ultrasonic degradation increased the antibacterial activity of GCP-F1 as compared to GCP, but GCP-F2 almost lost its antibacterial activity with further ultrasound treatment. Changes in the antioxidant and antibacterial activities of GCP-F1 and GCP-F2 might be related to the variation of their molecular weights
Anomalous thermo-osmotic conversion performance of ionic covalent-organic-framework membranes in response to charge variations
Authors of the article systematically investigated how the membrane charge populations affect permselectivity by decoupling their effects from the impact of the pore structure using a multivariate strategy for constructing covalent-organic-framework membranes. The complex interplay between pore-pore interactions in response to charge variations for ion transport across the upscaled nanoporous membranes helps explain the obtained results. This study has far-reaching implications for the rational design of ionic membranes to augment energy extraction rather than intuitively focusing on achieving high densities

Guanidinium-based covalent organic framework membrane for single-acid recovery
Article discusses how, although acids are extensively used in contemporary industries, time-consuming and environmentally unfriendly processes hinder single-acid recovery from wastes containing various iconic species. The authors rationally designed a membrane with uniform angstrom-sized pore channels and built-in charge-assisted hydrogen bond donors that preferentially conducted HCl while exhibiting negligible conductance for other compounds
Spatially resolved Spectro-photometry of M81: Age, Metallicity and Reddening Maps
In this paper, we present a multi-color photometric study of the nearby
spiral galaxy M81, using images obtained with the Beijing Astronomical
Observatory 60/90 cm Schmidt Telescope in 13 intermediate-band filters from
3800 to 10000{\AA}. The observations cover the whole area of M81 with a total
integration of 51 hours from February 1995 to February 1997. This provides a
multi-color map of M81 in pixels of 1\arcsec.7 \times 1\arcsec.7. Using
theoretical stellar population synthesis models, we demonstrate that some BATC
colors and color indices can be used to disentangle the age and metallicity
effect. We compare in detail the observed properties of M81 with the
predictions from population synthesis models and quantify the relative chemical
abundance, age and reddening distributions for different components of M81. We
find that the metallicity of M81 is about with no significant
difference over the whole galaxy. In contrast, an age gradient is found between
stellar populations of the central regions and of the bulge and disk regions of
M81: the stellar population in its central regions is older than 8 Gyr while
the disk stars are considerably younger, Gyr. We also give the
reddening distribution in M81. Some dust lanes are found in the galaxy bulge
region and the reddening in the outer disk is higher than that in the central
regions.Comment: Accepted for publication in AJ (May 2000 issue). 27 pages including 6

Association between pelvic floor muscle strength and sexual function based on PISQ-12—an analysis of data from a multicenter cross-sectional study on 735 nulliparae during pregnancy
BackgroundPelvic floor muscle strength is well-known to be associated with female sexual function. However, there were a few studies that reported on the relationship between pelvic floor muscle strength and female sexual function in pregnant women, and the presented results were inconsistent. Nulliparae represent a specific cohort with simplicity to exclude confounding factors that are caused by parity. The present study aimed to explore the association of pelvic floor muscle strength and sexual function based on the Pelvic Organ Prolapse/Urinary Incontinence Sexual Questionnaire (PISQ-12) of nulliparae during pregnancy.MethodsThis is the second analysis of the baseline data from a randomized controlled trial (RCT), which aimed to study the protective efficacy of pelvic floor muscle training on stress urinary incontinence at 6th week postpartum (registration number: ChiCTR2000029618). Nulliparae aged 20–40 years with singleton pregnancy before 16 weeks of gestation were enrolled in this study, and data, including participants' demographic information, the Modified Oxford Scale (MOS), and PISQ-12, were collected. Eligible nulliparae were divided into two groups: Group MOS > 3 and Group MOS ≤ 3. Demographic information of the two groups was compared. Sexual function based on the PISQ-12 scores of the two groups was compared. A comparison of the PISQ-12 scores between the two groups was calculated by the Mann–Whitney U-test using SPSS version 23.0.ResultsA total of 735 eligible nulliparae were enrolled in this study. Along with MOS grading up, PISQ-12 scores tended to get lower. Of the 735 nulliparae, there were 378 and 357 participants included in Group MOS > 3 and Group MOS ≤ 3, respectively. The PISQ-12 scores of Group MOS > 3 were significantly lower than those of Group MOS ≤ 3 (11 vs. 12, p < 0.001). The scores of the frequency of feeling sexual desire, orgasm achievement, sexual excitement, sexual activity satisfaction, sexual intercourse pain, fear of urinary incontinence, and negative emotion reactions with the sexual intercourse of Group MOS > 3 were lower than those of Group MOS ≤ 3 (p < 0.05).ConclusionPelvic floor muscle strength was positively associated with sexual function based on the questionnaire of young nulliparae during their first trimester. Up to half of the nulliparae during the first trimester were suffering from weak pelvic floor muscle strength and nearly a quarter of the nulliparae were facing this weakness combined with sexual dysfunction.Trial registrationThis study has been registered at http://www.chictr.org.cn (registration number: ChiCTR2000029618)
Baichuan 2: Open Large-scale Language Models
Large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated remarkable performance on a
variety of natural language tasks based on just a few examples of natural
language instructions, reducing the need for extensive feature engineering.
However, most powerful LLMs are closed-source or limited in their capability
for languages other than English. In this technical report, we present Baichuan
2, a series of large-scale multilingual language models containing 7 billion
and 13 billion parameters, trained from scratch, on 2.6 trillion tokens.
Baichuan 2 matches or outperforms other open-source models of similar size on
public benchmarks like MMLU, CMMLU, GSM8K, and HumanEval. Furthermore, Baichuan
2 excels in vertical domains such as medicine and law. We will release all
pre-training model checkpoints to benefit the research community in better
understanding the training dynamics of Baichuan 2.Comment: Baichuan 2 technical report. Github:
