    Distinguishing Computer-generated Graphics from Natural Images Based on Sensor Pattern Noise and Deep Learning

    Computer-generated graphics (CGs) are images generated by computer software. The~rapid development of computer graphics technologies has made it easier to generate photorealistic computer graphics, and these graphics are quite difficult to distinguish from natural images (NIs) with the naked eye. In this paper, we propose a method based on sensor pattern noise (SPN) and deep learning to distinguish CGs from NIs. Before being fed into our convolutional neural network (CNN)-based model, these images---CGs and NIs---are clipped into image patches. Furthermore, three high-pass filters (HPFs) are used to remove low-frequency signals, which represent the image content. These filters are also used to reveal the residual signal as well as SPN introduced by the digital camera device. Different from the traditional methods of distinguishing CGs from NIs, the proposed method utilizes a five-layer CNN to classify the input image patches. Based on the classification results of the image patches, we deploy a majority vote scheme to obtain the classification results for the full-size images. The~experiments have demonstrated that (1) the proposed method with three HPFs can achieve better results than that with only one HPF or no HPF and that (2) the proposed method with three HPFs achieves 100\% accuracy, although the NIs undergo a JPEG compression with a quality factor of 75.Comment: This paper has been published by Sensors. doi:10.3390/s18041296; Sensors 2018, 18(4), 129

    A supra-massive magnetar central engine for short GRB 130603B

    We show that the peculiar early optical and in particular X-ray afterglow emission of the short duration burst GRB 130603B can be explained by continuous energy injection into the blastwave from a supra-massive magnetar central engine. The observed energetics and temporal/spectral properties of the late infrared bump (i.e., the "kilonova") are also found consistent with emission from the ejecta launched during an NS-NS merger and powered by a magnetar central engine. The isotropic-equivalent kinetic energies of both the GRB blastwave and the kilonova are about Ek∼1051E_{\rm k}\sim 10^{51} erg, consistent with being powered by a near-isotropic magnetar wind. However, this relatively small value demands that most of the initial rotational energy of the magnetar (∼a few×1052 erg)(\sim {\rm a~ few \times 10^{52}~ erg}) is carried away by gravitational wave radiation. Our results suggest that (i) the progenitor of GRB 130603B would be a NS-NS binary system, whose merger product would be a supra-massive neutron star that lasted for about ∼1000\sim 1000 seconds; (ii) the equation-of-state of nuclear matter would be stiff enough to allow survival of a long-lived supra-massive neutron star, so that it is promising to detect bright electromagnetic counterparts of gravitational wave triggers without short GRB associations in the upcoming Advanced LIGO/Virgo era.Comment: Five pages including 1 Figure, to appear in ApJ

    AbstractObjectiveTo prove whether astrocyte elevated gene-1 (AEG-1) plays a role in high glucose-stimulated Rho kinase activation and epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) in human renal tubular epithelial (HK-2) cells.MethodsThe protein levels of AEG-1, alpha-smooth muscle actin, E-cadherin and MYPT1 were determined by Western blot.ResultsAEG-1 protein level was upregulated in HK-2 cells stimulated with high glucose. AEG-1 siRNA downregulated Rho kinase protein expression and blocked high glucose-induced EMT.ConclusionsOur results show that AEG-1 acts a key role in high glucose-induced activation of Rho kinase and EMT in HK-2 cells

    Excited Heavy Quarkonium Production at the LHC through WW-Boson Decays

    Sizable amount of heavy-quarkonium events can be produced through WW-boson decays at the LHC. Such channels will provide a suitable platform to study the heavy-quarkonium properties. The "improved trace technology", which disposes the amplitude M{\cal M} at the amplitude-level, is helpful for deriving compact analytical results for complex processes. As an important new application, in addition to the production of the lower-level Fock states ∣(QQ′ˉ)[1S]>|(Q\bar{Q'})[1S]> and ∣(QQ′ˉ)[1P]>|(Q\bar{Q'})[1P]>, we make a further study on the production of higher-excited ∣(QQ′ˉ)>|(Q\bar{Q'})>-quarkonium Fock states ∣(QQ′ˉ)[2S]>|(Q\bar{Q'})[2S]>, ∣(QQ′ˉ)[3S]>|(Q\bar{Q'})[3S]> and ∣(QQ′ˉ)[2P]>|(Q\bar{Q'})[2P]>. Here ∣(QQ′ˉ)>|(Q\bar{Q'})> stands for the ∣(ccˉ)>|(c\bar{c})>-charmonium, ∣(cbˉ)>|(c\bar{b})>-quarkonium and ∣(bbˉ)>|(b\bar{b})>-bottomonium respectively. We show that sizable amount of events for those higher-excited states can also be produced at the LHC.     A STUDY ON THE BENEFITS OF SPORTS TOURISM ON CITY MARKETING

    The purpose of this study is to explore the benefits of sports tourism on city marketing. In recent years, Taiwan has been actively striving for the marketing of large-scale sports events in the development of international sports. The host city uses the resources invested before the holding of the sports event to develop sports tourism attractions, develop sports tourism policies, and make good use of marketing and promotion strategies to shape the city’s image; and uses media marketing as a tourism promotion tool to expand Taiwan’s sports tourism facets which would bring huge tourism effects. This study organizes the research of past scholars by way of literature discussion, and then collects, organizes and analyzes the data. It is concluded that Taiwan has opened up its international reputation through international large-scale sports events and city marketing. From the experience of hosting international large-scale events, Taiwan not only attracts countless domestic and foreign tourists, but also promotes its city’s culture, tourism, and economy. The vigorous development of related industries, the enhancement of sports tourism quality and the improvement of sports tourism image in Taiwan are also achieved. Finally, international large-scale events revitalize the city to bring business opportunities and make such events the pride of the city. Therefore, this study serves as a reference for future exploration of sports tourism development and city marketing issues, integrating relevant resources, and providing reference for relevant organizations to jointly build Taiwan as a sports tourism island.
