GPU acceleration of predictive partitioned vector quantization for ultraspectral sounder data compression

    Get PDF
[[abstract]]For the large-volume ultraspectral sounder data, compression is desirable to save storage space and transmission time. To retrieve the geophysical paramters without losing precision the ultraspectral sounder data compression has to be lossless. Recently there is a boom on the use of graphic processor units (GPU) for speedup of scientific computations. By identifying the time dominant portions of the code that can be executed in parallel, significant speedup can be achieved by using GPU. Predictive partitioned vector quantization (PPVQ) has been proven to be an effective lossless compression scheme for ultraspectral sounder data. It consists of linear prediction, bit depth partitioning, vector quantization, and entropy coding. Two most time consuming stages of linear prediction and vector quantization are chosen for GPU-based implementation. By exploiting the data parallel characteristics of these two stages, a spatial division design shows a speedup of 72x in our four-GPU-based implementation of the PPVQ compression scheme.[[notice]]補正完畢[[journaltype]]國外[[incitationindex]]SCI[[booktype]]紙本[[countrycodes]]US

    High-Mobility Pentacene-Based Thin-Film Transistors With a Solution-Processed Barium Titanate Insulator

Abstract—Pentacene-based organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) with solution-processed barium titanate (Ba1.2Ti0.8O3) as a gate insulator are demonstrated. The electrical properties of pentacene-based TFTs show a high field-effect mobility of 8.85 cm2 · V−1 · s−1, a low threshold voltage of −1.89 V, and a low subthreshold slope swing of 310 mV/decade. The chemical composition and binding energy of solution-processed barium titanate thin films are analyzed through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The matching surface energy on the surface of the barium titanate thin film is 43.12 mJ · m−2, which leads to Stranski–Krastanov mode growth, and thus, high mobility is exhibited in pentacene-based TFTs. Index Terms—Barium titanate, high field-effect mobility, high permittivity, organic thin-filmtransistor (OTFT), solution process

Exploring the Impact of Different Sources Credibility on App Downloading Behavior: An ELM Perspective

    Get PDF
With the increasing of using smart phone, people began to use “App” in their daily life. While they need to download a specific type of App, the developer of the App will provide them an introductory page which describes the functionality of the App and contains statistical data. Besides, function of “your friend who has downloaded this App” is introduced to smart phone users. Therefore, many peripheral cues are listed in the page nowadays to persuade people to download. The purpose of this study is to understand whether peripheral cues in the introductory page can persuade people to download this App. In our study, we used ELM-based theory to explain the behavior of persuading. The expected contribution of this study is to understand three peripheral cues would influence App credibility which influence attitude toward downloading. This study will provide advices to App developers to promote their strategies of business

Multicriteria Resource Brokering in Cloud Computing for Streaming Service

By leveraging cloud computing such as Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), the outsourcing of computing resources used to support operations, including servers, storage, and networking components, is quite beneficial for various providers of Internet application. With this increasing trend, resource allocation that both assures QoS via Service Level Agreement (SLA) and avoids overprovisioning in order to reduce cost becomes a crucial priority and challenge in the design and operation of complex service-based platforms such as streaming service. On the other hand, providers of IaaS also concern their profit performance and energy consumption while offering these virtualized resources. In this paper, considering both service-oriented and infrastructure-oriented criteria, we regard this resource allocation problem as Multicriteria Decision Making problem and propose an effective trade-off approach based on goal programming model. To validate its effectiveness, a cloud architecture for streaming application is addressed and extensive analysis is performed for related criteria. The results of numerical simulations show that the proposed approach strikes a balance between these conflicting criteria commendably and achieves high cost efficiency
