    Paclitaxel-octreotide conjugates inhibit growth of human non-small cell lung cancer cells in vitro

    No full text
    Aim: To evaluate the effects of paclitaxel-octreotide conjugates on the growth of cultured non-small cell lung cancer cells. Methods: RT-PCR was performed to detect mRNA for the subtypes of the human somatostatin receptor (SSTR) using specific primers. MTT-based cytotoxicity assay was used to evaluate the cell viability after treatment with paclitaxel and the conjugates. Cell cycle perturbations were determined using a Fluorescence-Activated Cell Sorter. Results: Non-small cell lung cancer A549 and Calu-6 cells expressed mRNA for SSTR2 and SSTR5. Paclitaxel and the conjugates effectively inhibited the growth of A549 and Calu-6 cells in a concentration- and time-dependent manner. In SSTR-negative fibroblasts, the conjugates were less cytotoxic than paclitaxel. The conjugates and paclitaxel could induce the increase of G2/M phase ratio in A549 cells. Conclusion: The paclitaxel-octreotide conjugates can be used as selective-targeted chemotherapeutic agents for treating non-small cell lung cancer. Cosmological Constraints on the Sign-Changeable Interactions

    Full text link
    Recently, Cai and Su [Phys. Rev. D {\bf 81}, 103514 (2010)] found that the sign of interaction QQ in the dark sector changed in the approximate redshift range of 0.45\,\lsim\, z\,\lsim\, 0.9, by using a model-independent method to deal with the observational data. In fact, this result raises a remarkable problem, since most of the familiar interactions cannot change their signs in the whole cosmic history. Motivated by the work of Cai and Su, we have proposed a new type of interaction in a previous work [H. Wei, Nucl. Phys. B {\bf 845}, 381 (2011)]. The key ingredient is the deceleration parameter qq in the interaction QQ, and hence the interaction QQ can change its sign when our universe changes from deceleration (q>0q>0) to acceleration (q<0q<0). In the present work, we consider the cosmological constraints on this new type of sign-changeable interactions, by using the latest observational data. We find that the cosmological constraints on the model parameters are fairly tight. In particular, the key parameter Ξ²\beta can be constrained to a narrow range.Comment: 15 pages, 1 table, 8 figures, revtex4; v2: published versio

    Running coupling: Does the coupling between dark energy and dark matter change sign during the cosmological evolution?

    Full text link
    In this paper we put forward a running coupling scenario for describing the interaction between dark energy and dark matter. The dark sector interaction in our scenario is free of the assumption that the interaction term QQ is proportional to the Hubble expansion rate and the energy densities of dark sectors. We only use a time-variable coupling b(a)b(a) (with aa the scale factor of the universe) to characterize the interaction QQ. We propose a parametrization form for the running coupling b(a)=b0a+be(1βˆ’a)b(a)=b_0a+b_e(1-a) in which the early-time coupling is given by a constant beb_e, while today the coupling is given by another constant, b0b_0. For investigating the feature of the running coupling, we employ three dark energy models, namely, the cosmological constant model (w=βˆ’1w=-1), the constant ww model (w=w0w=w_0), and the time-dependent ww model (w(a)=w0+w1(1βˆ’a)w(a)=w_0+w_1(1-a)). We constrain the models with the current observational data, including the type Ia supernova, the baryon acoustic oscillation, the cosmic microwave background, the Hubble expansion rate, and the X-ray gas mass fraction data. The fitting results indicate that a time-varying vacuum scenario is favored, in which the coupling b(z)b(z) crosses the noninteracting line (b=0b=0) during the cosmological evolution and the sign changes from negative to positive. The crossing of the noninteracting line happens at around z=0.2βˆ’0.3z=0.2-0.3, and the crossing behavior is favored at about 1Οƒ\sigma confidence level. Our work implies that we should pay more attention to the time-varying vacuum model and seriously consider the phenomenological construction of a sign-changeable or oscillatory interaction between dark sectors.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures; refs added; to appear in EPJ

    The absolute branching fractions for the decays D0β†’Kβˆ’e+Ξ½eD^0 \to K^-e ^+\nu_e and D0β†’Ο€βˆ’e+Ξ½eD^0 \to \pi^-e^+\nu_e are determined using 7584Β±198Β±3417584\pm 198 \pm 341 singly tagged DΛ‰0\bar D^0 sample from the data collected around 3.773 GeV with the BES-II detector at the BEPC. In the system recoiling against the singly tagged DΛ‰0\bar D^0 meson, 104.0Β±10.9104.0\pm 10.9 events for D0β†’Kβˆ’e+Ξ½eD^0 \to K^-e ^+\nu_e and 9.0Β±3.69.0 \pm 3.6 events for D0β†’Ο€βˆ’e+Ξ½eD^0 \to \pi^-e^+\nu_e decays are observed. Those yield the absolute branching fractions to be BF(D0β†’Kβˆ’e+Ξ½e)=(3.82Β±0.40Β±0.27)BF(D^0 \to K^-e^+\nu_e)=(3.82 \pm 0.40\pm 0.27)% and BF(D0β†’Ο€βˆ’e+Ξ½e)=(0.33Β±0.13Β±0.03)BF(D^0 \to \pi^-e^+\nu_e)=(0.33 \pm 0.13\pm 0.03)%. The vector form factors are determined to be ∣f+K(0)∣=0.78Β±0.04Β±0.03|f^K_+(0)| = 0.78 \pm 0.04 \pm 0.03 and ∣f+Ο€(0)∣=0.73Β±0.14Β±0.06|f^{\pi}_+(0)| = 0.73 \pm 0.14 \pm 0.06. The ratio of the two form factors is measured to be ∣f+Ο€(0)/f+K(0)∣=0.93Β±0.19Β±0.07|f^{\pi}_+(0)/f^K_+(0)|= 0.93 \pm 0.19 \pm 0.07.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure

    Measurement of branching fractions for the inclusive Cabibbo-favored ~K*0(892) and Cabibbo-suppressed K*0(892) decays of neutral and charged D mesons

    Full text link
    The branching fractions for the inclusive Cabibbo-favored ~K*0 and Cabibbo-suppressed K*0 decays of D mesons are measured based on a data sample of 33 pb-1 collected at and around the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BES-II detector at the BEPC collider. The branching fractions for the decays D+(0) -> ~K*0(892)X and D0 -> K*0(892)X are determined to be BF(D0 -> \~K*0X) = (8.7 +/- 4.0 +/- 1.2)%, BF(D+ -> ~K*0X) = (23.2 +/- 4.5 +/- 3.0)% and BF(D0 -> K*0X) = (2.8 +/- 1.2 +/- 0.4)%. An upper limit on the branching fraction at 90% C.L. for the decay D+ -> K*0(892)X is set to be BF(D+ -> K*0X) < 6.6%
