    Creating an ILLiad Transaction Archive

    Get PDF
The University of Kansas (KU) uses OCLC ILLiad software for managing interlibrary loan borrowing, lending and document delivery operations. In 2007, KU created a transaction archive to save dated transactions for reporting purposes, allowing them to be removed them from the main ILLiad database. This technical paper describes the process used to design and create the transaction archive, populate it with data, and remove the data from the primary database. This process can be used to remove patron data from interlibrary loan transactions while leaving enough data intact for copyright and bibliographic reports and workflow analysis. Sample SQL code is included in the appendices and as a separate text document

    Electronic Resources Simplexity

    Get PDF
The current environment for electronic resource management, discovery, and access is a very complex system on the back end, with the goal of having a simple experience for users on the front end. One way to understand the ER environment is to look back to the beginnings and build the system from the ground up. The presenters will build an electronic resource environment from the basic components, simplifying the complexity, so that participants can better understand the relationship between the library services platform and integrated discovery system, and its implications for our researchers’ discovery experience

Streamlined Workflow Analysis Using Swim Lanes

    Get PDF
This is a case study on the workflow analysis process utilized by the technical services departments at the University at Albany SUNY in preparation for a migration from a legacy library system to a library services platform. The focus is not on specific technical services functionality but rather on the efficient, bottom-up methodology. Tasks were identified, sequenced, and entered into a spreadsheet. Responsible persons or units were marked in the appropriate cell to complete the swim lane diagram. The resulting documentation served as a simplified process diagram for the workflow that can be easily maintained on an ongoing basis
