Wellness tourism has become a popular trend of tourism activity in the 21st century for people to meet the needs of wellness and leisure. As a sunrise industry, wellness tourism has great market potential and prospective future in China. Hainan, the only tropical island in China, has great advantages in developing wellness tourism. Hainan has a pleasant climate and picturesque scenery, its nature environment and unique features attract tourists from all over the world. Given the importance of the wellness tourism industry in Hainan, wellness tourist consumption behaviour needs to be further explored. However, there is a limited study in exploring the consumptive profiles of wellness tourists. In order to fill the gaps of the research in wellness tourism, this study chose wellness tourists as the research subject for the study of consumer behaviour to identify the needs of wellness tourists, factors influencing the tourist needs, and their degree of influence on the choice of wellness tourism. The aim of this research was to achieve the following objectives: (1) To identify the socio-demographic profiles of wellness tourists in Hainan; (2) To analyse the factors including attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioural control, past behaviour, perception of the tourist destination and wellness lifestyle attributes that affect Chinese people’s travel intention of wellness tourism; (3) To test the relevance of the original TPB model and develop an extended TPB model (ETPB). The results showed that subjective norm, perceived behavioural control, past behaviour, perception of tourist destination and wellness lifestyle were significantly related to behavioural intention of wellness tourism. Perception of tourist destination was found to function as a mediating variable in the formation mechanism of travel intention of wellness tourism. In addition, the moderating effect of wellness lifestyle has also been tested and verified in the relationships between subjective norm, perceived behavioural control and travel intention of wellness tourism in the ETPB model. Surprisingly, attitude toward wellness tourism was found to exert no direct effect on travel intention of wellness tourism, yet it indirectly predicted travel intention through perception of tourist destination. Moreover, wellness lifestyle failed to moderate the relationship between attitude toward wellness tourism and travel intention

Aim: Low professional help-seeking intention (PHSI) hinders effective treatment of mental illness. PHSI among Chinese students is still understudied and under-recognized. This study aimed to evaluate the status of PHSI and its associated risk factors among Chinese medical students. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in Hainan province, South China, between January 1, 2021, and May 31, 2021. A total of 2182 medical students were recruited and surveyed via an anonymous structured questionnaire. Logistic regression analyses were performed to identify the factors associated with PHSI. Results: Among the 2182 medical students (mean age 21.0 years (SD = 3.70), 61.5% females), those with and without PHSI were 72.0% and 28.0%, and 16.4% with moderate to severe depression. Male students, those with a high level of depression stigma, serious family dysfunction, and heavy dependence on mobile phones were significantly less likely to seek professional mental health help, with odds ratios (ORs) of 1.5, 2.0, 2.1, and 1.7, respectively. Conclusion: A significant proportion of Chinese medical students demonstrate low PHSI, influenced by factors such as gender, depression stigma, family dysfunction, and mobile phone dependence. Future interventions aimed at increasing medical students’ PHSI should prioritize reducing depression stigma, mitigating reliance on mobile phone use, and enhancing family function to address these key barriers to seeking professional mental health support

The current research attempts to understand how gender relationship, livelihood, social structure, and identity evolve within tourism development. Data were collected on the sites from participant observations, in-depth interviews, and focus groups over the course of 12 research field trips from 1995 to 2019. This research provides evidence that family-based, small tourism business appears to survive well in volatile times. When family members establish their own network as equal decision makers, they tend to work together in tourism and help each other, leading to gender equality and interdependence in the relationship. They were also found to have expanded into other income streams and contributed to the career advancement of other members in the family or even the wider community. Gender gaps appear to be reduced, with ethnic woman often conducting better business than their male counterparts. Additionally, ethnic women have the opportunity to explore the potentials of their own capacity. They come into contact with the outside world and gain better social capital, along with expanding choices, and social recognition. They work hard as the hostess with dedication, warm heartedness, and local knowledge, winning respect and trust from the tourists. When ethnic women make an income directly from tourism, no matter how small it is, they have made a great step away from the previous patriarchal dominance. Tourism provides more choices for life with gender equality
