Glass transitions in two-dimensional suspensions of colloidal ellipsoids
We observed a two-step glass transition in monolayers of colloidal ellipsoids
by video microscopy. The glass transition in the rotational degree of freedom
was at a lower density than that in the translational degree of freedom.
Between the two transitions, ellipsoids formed an orientational glass.
Approaching the respective glass transitions, the rotational and translational
fastest-moving particles in the supercooled liquid moved cooperatively and
formed clusters with power-law size distributions. The mean cluster sizes
diverge in power law as approaching the glass transitions. The clusters of
translational and rotational fastest-moving ellipsoids formed mainly within
pseudo-nematic domains, and around the domain boundaries, respectively
Deep Lesion Graphs in the Wild: Relationship Learning and Organization of Significant Radiology Image Findings in a Diverse Large-scale Lesion Database
Radiologists in their daily work routinely find and annotate significant
abnormalities on a large number of radiology images. Such abnormalities, or
lesions, have collected over years and stored in hospitals' picture archiving
and communication systems. However, they are basically unsorted and lack
semantic annotations like type and location. In this paper, we aim to organize
and explore them by learning a deep feature representation for each lesion. A
large-scale and comprehensive dataset, DeepLesion, is introduced for this task.
DeepLesion contains bounding boxes and size measurements of over 32K lesions.
To model their similarity relationship, we leverage multiple supervision
information including types, self-supervised location coordinates and sizes.
They require little manual annotation effort but describe useful attributes of
the lesions. Then, a triplet network is utilized to learn lesion embeddings
with a sequential sampling strategy to depict their hierarchical similarity
structure. Experiments show promising qualitative and quantitative results on
lesion retrieval, clustering, and classification. The learned embeddings can be
further employed to build a lesion graph for various clinically useful
applications. We propose algorithms for intra-patient lesion matching and
missing annotation mining. Experimental results validate their effectiveness.Comment: Accepted by CVPR2018. DeepLesion url adde
Damage modelling: the current state and the latest progress on the development of creep damage constitutive equations for high Cr steels
This paper reviews the fundamentals of the development of creep damage constitutive equations for high Cr steels including (1) a concise summary of the characteristics of creep deformation and creep damage evolution and their dependence on the stress level and the importance of cavitation for the final fracture; (2) a critical review of the state of art of creep damage equation for high Cr steels; (3) some discussion and comments on the various approaches; (4) consideration and suggestion for future work. It emphasises the need for better understanding the nucleation, cavity growth and coalesces and the theory for coupling method between creep cavity damage and brittle fracture and generalisatio
Management Power and Corporate Risk Taking: Evidence from China
Abstract
Corporate risk-taking is the degree to which a firm demonstrates its tolerance for the risks it faces in order to achieve high returns in the course of its business. Management power influences the choice of business strategy and the preference for risk taking. Corporate risk-taking is not only a matter of improving corporate performance and long-term growth, but also of accumulating social capital. Based on it, Chinese A-share listed firms from 2016 to 2020 are the research objects in this paper. Through both theoretical research and empirical study, this paper investigates the impact of the combined management power and six different dimensions of management power on corporate risk-taking. This provides an in-depth analysis of the mechanism of the role of managerial power on corporate risk-taking behavior. The results of the study show that combined management power, organization power, ownership power, expert power and reputation power have a significant inhibitory effect on the level of corporate risk-taking. This implies that in order to promote a positive level of corporate risk-taking and to accelerate the accumulation of corporate capital, the different latitudes of management power should be appropriately allocated. Different incentive schemes could be used to set up for management. Companies also need to choose their management with a dialectical perspective. This will enhance the level of corporate risk-taking and help to increase the value of the company in the long term
Placement and Resource Allocation of Wireless-Powered Multiantenna UAV for Energy-Efficient Multiuser NOMA
This paper investigates a new downlink nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA)
system, where a multiantenna unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is powered by
wireless power transfer (WPT) and serves as the base station for multiple pairs
of ground users (GUs) running NOMA in each pair. An energy efficiency (EE)
maximization problem is formulated to jointly optimize the WPT time and the
placement for the UAV, and the allocation of the UAV's transmit power between
different NOMA user pairs and within each pair. To efficiently solve this
nonconvex problem, we decompose the problem into three subproblems using block
coordinate descent. For the subproblem of intra-pair power allocation within
each NOMA user pair, we construct a supermodular game with confirmed
convergence to a Nash equilibrium. Given the intra-pair power allocation,
successive convex approximation is applied to convexify and solve the
subproblem of WPT time allocation and inter-pair power allocation between the
user pairs. Finally, we solve the subproblem of UAV placement by using the
Lagrange multiplier method. Simulations show that our approach can
substantially outperform its alternatives that do not use NOMA and WPT
techniques or that do not optimize the UAV location.Comment: 15 pages, 11 figures, Accepted by IEEE Transactions on Wireless
