    Magnetic field twist driven by remote convective motions: Characteristics and twist rates

    It is generally believed that convective motions below the solar photosphere induce a twist in the coronal magnetic field as a result of frozen-in physics. A question of interest is how much twist can one expect from a persistent convective motion, given the fact that dissipative effects will eventually figure. This question is examined by considering a model problem: two conducting plates, with finite resistivity, are set in sheared motion and forced at constant relative speed. A resistive plasma is between the plates and an initially vertical magnetic field connects the plates. The time rate of tilt experienced by the field is obtained as a function of Hartmann number and the resistivity ratio. Both analytical and numerical approaches are considered

    Detecting a set of entanglement measures in an unknown tripartite quantum state by local operations and classical communication

    We propose a more general method for detecting a set of entanglement measures, i.e. negativities, in an \emph{arbitrary} tripartite quantum state by local operations and classical communication. To accomplish the detection task using this method, three observers, Alice, Bob and Charlie, do not need to perform the partial transposition maps by the structural physical approximation; instead, they are only required to collectively measure some functions via three local networks supplemented by a classical communication.     A preliminary study on the monitoring of mixed venous oxygen saturation through the left main bronchus

    INTRODUCTION: The study sought to assess the feasibility and accuracy of measuring mixed venous oxygen saturation (SvO(2)) through the left main bronchus (SpO(2trachea)) METHODS: Twenty hybrid pigs of each sex were studied. After anesthesia, a Robertshaw double-lumen tracheal tube with a single-use pediatric pulse oximeter attached to the left lateral surface was introduced toward the left main bronchus of the pig by means of a fibrobronchoscope. Measurements of SpO(2trachea )and oxygen saturation from pulmonary artery samples (SvO(2blood)) were performed with an intracuff pressure of 0 to 60 cmH(2)O. After equilibration, hemorrhagic shock was induced in these pigs by bleeding to a mean arterial blood pressure of 40 mmHg. With the intracuff pressure maintained at 60 cmH(2)O, SpO(2trachea )and SvO(2blood )were obtained respectively during the pre-shock period, immediately after the onset of shock, 15 and 30 minutes after shock, and 15, 30, and 60 minutes after resuscitation. RESULTS: SpO(2trachea )was the same as SvO(2blood )at an intracuff pressure of 10, 20, 40, and 60 cmH(2)O, but was reduced when the intracuff pressure was zero (p < 0.001 compared with SvO(2blood)) in hemodynamically stable states. Changes of SpO(2trachea )and SvO(2blood )corresponded with varieties of cardiac output during the hemorrhagic shock period. There was a significant correlation between the two methods at different time points. CONCLUSION: Measurement of the left main bronchus SpO(2 )is feasible and provides similar readings to SvO(2blood )in hemodynamically stable or in low saturation states. Tracheal oximetry readings are not primarily derived from the tracheal mucosa. The technique merits further evaluation

    Effect of dose and types of the water reducing admixtures and superplasticizers on concrete strength and durability behaviour:A review

    As one of the concrete admixtures, water reducing admixtures and superplasticizers are usually used to re-duce the mixing water volume and improve the performance of the harden concrete while maintaining better workability of the fresh concrete. However, the concrete strength and durability properties are affected differently by different types and dosages of the water reducing admixtures and superplasticizers. Based on the published literatures, this paper comprehensively reviews and analyzes this problem. Different types of the concretes, including ordinary Portland cement concrete, ordinary Portland cement concrete containing pozzolan, fly ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag, calcium sulfoaluminate cement concrete, ferrite aluminate cement concrete, recycled aggregates concrete, lightweight aggregate concrete, self-compacting concrete and ultra-high performance concrete, are considered to discuss the influence of types and dosages of the water reducing admixtures and superplasticizers on their strengths. Water absorption, frost resistance and permeability resistance of the concrete are mainly reviewed to discuss this influence on the durability properties of the concrete. Then, some suggestions on the application of the water reducing admixtures and superplasticizers in reinforced concrete structures and projects are proposed.</p
