Enhanced Feedback Iterative Decoding of Sparse Quantum Codes
Decoding sparse quantum codes can be accomplished by syndrome-based decoding
using a belief propagation (BP) algorithm. We significantly improve this
decoding scheme by developing a new feedback adjustment strategy for the
standard BP algorithm. In our feedback procedure, we exploit much of the
information from stabilizers, not just the syndrome but also the values of the
frustrated checks on individual qubits of the code and the channel model.
Furthermore we show that our decoding algorithm is superior to belief
propagation algorithms using only the syndrome in the feedback procedure for
all cases of the depolarizing channel. Our algorithm does not increase the
measurement overhead compared to the previous method, as the extra information
comes for free from the requisite stabilizer measurements.Comment: 10 pages, 11 figures, Second version, To be appeared in IEEE

Effects of coagulation factors and inflammatory cytokines on development of acute myocardial infarction in patients younger than 60 years
Purpose: To investigate the effects of coagulation factors and inflammatory cytokines on acute myocardial infarction (AMI) development in patients younger than 60 years. Methods: In this study, 60 patients admitted to The First Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University (Dalian, China) with AMI and 30 other subjects matched with the patients for age and ethnicity but without AMI were enrolled. Blood samples were collected from the AMI patients and the control subjects after a 12-h fast. Subsequently, the levels of coagulation factors (F) II (FII), VII (FVII), VIII (FVIII), fibrinogen (Fg) and von Willebrand factor (vWF) in plasma were analyzed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The protein expression levels of these coagulation factors were determined by Western blot analysis. Inflammatory factors including C-reactive protein (CRP), tumor necrosis factor-ι (TNF-ι) and interleukin- 6 (IL-6) were also measured by ELISA.Results: FII, FVII, FVIII, Fg and vWF levels in plasm were significantly higher in AMI patients compared with control subjects (p < 0.01). Furthermore, the protein expression levels of FII, FVII, FVIII, Fg and vWF were also significantly up-regulated in AMI patients compared with those in control subjects. Additionally, no significant difference was observed in CRP between AMI patients and control subjects (p > 0.05). However, TNF-ι and IL-6 levels in the plasma of AMI patients were significantly higher than those in control subjects (p < 0.05).Conclusion: The results reveal that the pathogenesis of AMI in patients younger than 60 years might be closely related to the high levels of coagulation factors and inflammatory cytokines in the blood. Keywords: Coagulation factor, Inflammatory cytokines, Acute myocardial infarction, C-reactive protein, Tumor necrosis factor-ι, Interleukin-
Blind Video Quality Assessment at the Edge
Owing to the proliferation of user-generated videos on the Internet, blind
video quality assessment (BVQA) at the edge attracts growing attention. The
usage of deep-learning-based methods is restricted by their large model sizes
and high computational complexity. In light of this, a novel lightweight BVQA
method called GreenBVQA is proposed in this work. GreenBVQA features a small
model size, low computational complexity, and high performance. Its processing
pipeline includes: video data cropping, unsupervised representation generation,
supervised feature selection, and mean-opinion-score (MOS) regression and
ensembles. We conduct experimental evaluations on three BVQA datasets and show
that GreenBVQA can offer state-of-the-art performance in PLCC and SROCC metrics
while demanding significantly smaller model sizes and lower computational
complexity. Thus, GreenBVQA is well-suited for edge devices

No Weight Catch-Up Growth of SGA Infants Is Associated with Impaired Insulin Sensitivity during the Early Postnatal Period
Objective. To investigate the relationship between weight catch-up growth and insulin sensitivity in small for gestational age (SGA) infants. Methods. Forty-four singleton SGA subjects met the inclusion criteria and finished-3-month followup. Body weight, length, fasting glucose, and fasting insulin (FI) levels were measured at 3 days and 3 months. Insulin sensitivity was evaluated by FI and homeostasis model assessment (HOMA). Results. According to the change of weight Z-score, forty-four subjects were divided into two groups: noncatch-up growth (NCUG) and catch-up growth (CUG). By 3 months of age, the body weight, body length and BMI of NCUG group were significantly lower than those of CUG group. The FI and HOMA were significantly higher in NCUG group. The change of weight Z-score during 3 months was inversely related to the HOMA at 3 months. Conclusion. Our data exemplified that no weight catch-up growth during the first 3 months was associated with impaired insulin sensitivity in SGA infants
Higher-order Topological Phases of Magnons in van der Waals Honeycomb Ferromagnets
We theoretically propose a second-order topological magnon insulator by
stacking the van der Waals honeycomb ferromagnets with antiferromagnetic
interlayer coupling. The system exhibits Z topological phase, protected
by pseudo-time-reversal symmetry (PTRS). An easy-plane anisotropy term breaks
PTRS and destroys the topological phase. Nevertheless, it respects a magnetic
two-fold rotational symmetry which protects a second-order topological phase
with corner modes in bilayer and hinge modes along stacking direction.
Moreover, an introduced staggered interlayer coupling establishes a
ZZ topology, giving rise to gapped topological surface modes
carrying non-zero Chern numbers. Consequently, chiral hinge modes propagate
along the horizontal hinges in a cuboid geometry and are robust against
disorders. Our work bridges the higher-order topology and magnons in van der
Waals platforms, and could be used for constructing topological magnonic
devices
Expressions of Neuregulin 1β and ErbB4 in Prefrontal Cortex and Hippocampus of a Rat Schizophrenia Model Induced by Chronic MK-801 Administration
Recent human genetic studies and postmortem brain examinations of schizophrenia patients strongly indicate that dysregulation of NRG1 and ErbB4 may be important pathogenic factors of schizophrenia. However, this hypothesis has not been validated and fully investigated in animal models of schizophrenia. In this study we quantitatively examined NRG1 and ErbB4 protein expressions by immunohistochemistry and Western blot in the brain of a rat schizophrenia model induced by chronic administration of MK-801 (a noncompetitive NMDA receptor antagonist). Our data showed that NRG1β and ErbB4 expressions were significantly increased in the rat prefrontal cortex and hippocampus but in different subregions. These findings suggest that altered expressions of NRG1 and ErbB4 might be attributed to the schizophrenia. Further study in the role and mechanism of NRG1 and ErbB4 may lead to better understanding of the pathophysiology for this disorder
