    Research on dynamic characteristics of spiral basilar membrane after replacing artificial auditory ossicle based on the reconstructed human ear model

    In this paper, PATRAN software was used to establish a complete 3D finite element model of human ears, and it was then combined with NASTRAN software to analyze frequency responses. This paper conducted a detailed analysis on the dynamic parameters including umbo and stapes displacements of normal human ears under sound pressures 90 dB and 105 dB. The numerically computational results were compared with experimental data. When the analyzed frequency was less than 1000 Hz, the computational result of numerical simulation was well consistent with the upper limit. When the analyzed frequency was more than 1000 Hz, the computational result of numerical simulation was well consistent with the lower limit. Therefore, the numerically computational model was reliable. In addition, based on the verified model, this paper studied vibration characteristics of spiral basilar membrane after replacing artificial auditory ossicle based on the whole hearing system, and found that vibration characteristics of spiral basilar membrane had an obvious change at low and high frequencies after replacing artificial auditory ossicle TORP. Using finite element method to analyze vibration characteristics of spiral basilar membrane can well predict the hearing recovery effect after replacing artificial auditory ossicle. Compared with normal ears, the vibration level of spiral basilar membrane after replacing artificial auditory ossicle has slowed down in 100 Hz-600 Hz, 2000 Hz-4000 Hz and 7000 Hz-10000 Hz, and has been strengthened in 600 Hz-2000 Hz and 4000 Hz-7000 Hz, which provided some help for the hearing recovery at the high-frequency band

    Anomalous pressure behavior of tangential modes in single-wall carbon nanotubes

    Using the molecular dynamics simulations and the force constant model we have studied the Raman-active tangential modes (TMs) of a (10, 0) single-wall carbon nanotube (SWNT) under hydrostatic pressure. With increasing pressure, the atomic motions in the three TMs present obvious diversities. The pressure derivative of E1g, A1g, and E2g mode frequency shows an increased value (), a constant value (), and a negative value () above 5.3 GPa, respectively. The intrinsic characteristics of TMs consumedly help to understand the essence of the experimental T band of CNT. The anomalous pressure behavior of the TMs frequencies may be originated from the tube symmetry alteration from D10h to D2h then to C2h.Comment: 15 pages, 3 pages, submitted to Phys. Rev.

    AbstractObjectiveTo investigate the biological macro-idea and criterion of osteopathic fracture immobilization in China's traditional Mongolian medicine.MethodsBased on biological naturalism regarding the relationship between man and universe (including psychosomatic integration) in osteopathic fracture immobilization in China's traditional Mongolian medicine, we used modern physiopsychological and biomechanical principles and methods to investigate the biological macro-characteristics of humanization, behaviorism, and wholism in “dynamic” fixation of fractures.ResultsOsteopathic fracture immobilization in China's traditional Mongolian medicine is based on the fixation criterion of macro-idea and method as well as on geometry, mechanics, motion, and stress and psychological stability in “non-sheltered fixation” of fractures contained in the life view of nature, regarding the relationship between man and universe (including psychosomatic integration) and on harmony between the limbs and the whole body, between body and function, and between man and nature.ConclusionsOsteopathic fracture immobilization in China's traditional Mongolian medicine is fixation without trauma or shelter. The principle and method of whole, dynamic, and functional fixation of fractures is not only radical, but also represents a new direction for developing the principle and method of fracture immobilization

    Thoracic Disease Identification and Localization with Limited Supervision

    Accurate identification and localization of abnormalities from radiology images play an integral part in clinical diagnosis and treatment planning. Building a highly accurate prediction model for these tasks usually requires a large number of images manually annotated with labels and finding sites of abnormalities. In reality, however, such annotated data are expensive to acquire, especially the ones with location annotations. We need methods that can work well with only a small amount of location annotations. To address this challenge, we present a unified approach that simultaneously performs disease identification and localization through the same underlying model for all images. We demonstrate that our approach can effectively leverage both class information as well as limited location annotation, and significantly outperforms the comparative reference baseline in both classification and localization tasks.Comment: Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition 2018 (CVPR 2018).     Preparation and evaluation of peptide-dendrimer-paclitaxel conjugates for treatment of heterogeneous stage 1 nonsmall cell lung cancer in 293T and L132 cell lines

    Purpose: To develop peptide-dendrimer-paclitaxel conjugates for the treatment of heterogeneous stage 1 non small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in 293T and L132cell line.Method: Dendrimer-paclitaxel conjugates (PAMAM-PTX) were prepared by NHS method and the conjugates were used for the synthesis of peptide-dendrimer-paclitaxel conjugates (GE-PAMAM-PTX). The particle sizes of PAMAM-PTX and GE-PAMAM-PTX were measured. Entrapment efficiency of PTX in PAMAM-PTX was measured while GE-PAMAM-PTX. PTX release from PAMAM-PTX and GEPAMAM- PTX was determined using a dialysis bag in pH 7.4 phosphate buffer. The cytotoxicity of PAMAM-PTX, GE-PAMAM-PTX, PAMAM and PTX was evaluated by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-Yl)-2,5- diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay using 293T cell lines. In vitro cellular uptake assay of PAMAM-PTX and GE-PAMAM-PTX and PTX at concentrations ranging from 0.01 to 0.5μM for 8 h was carried out in NSCLC cell lines 293T and L132.Results: More than 95 % entrapment efficiency of GE-PAMAM-PTX was observed with loading efficiency of 25 %. GE-PAMAM-PTX conjugates showed sustained release of PTX (~85 %) towards the end of 50 h. GE-PAMAM-PTX conjugates were more cytotoxic than pure PTX and PAMAM-PTX conjugates. The remarkable uptake of GE-PAMAM-PTX appear to be due to receptor-mediated endocytosis in the cell lines. The presence of ligand (GE) on PAMAM-PTX surface enabled the complex to bind to the over-expressed receptors on the cell lines.Conclusion: GE-PAMAM-PTX can facilitate targeting of paclitaxel to lung cancer cell lines and tumors and facilitate release of the drugs in a sustained manner to improve the therapeutic efficacy of PTX.Keywords: Paclitaxel, Lung cancer, Non-small cell lung cancer, Dendrimer, Peptide, PAMA

    Effect of sodium hyaluronate in treating fungal corneal ulcer

    AIM: To retrospectively analyze the effects of sodium hyaluronate in treating fungal corneal ulcer.<p>METHODS: Since June, 2006, there were 178 patients(178 eyes)with fungal corneal ulcer receiving medical treatment in our hospital. Among them, 81 patients(81 eyes)as the control group received the traditional antifungal treatment with the natamycin and fluconazole being the major medicine, from June 2006 to June 2008. While, 97 patients(97 eyes)as the treatment group received sodium hyaluronate treatment based on traditional antifungal treatment during the period of June 2008 to March 2010. Effects of two therapeutic methods were compared and analyzed. <p>RESULTS: Of the 97 cases in the treatment group, the average hospital stay was: 14.15±4.23d, with 90 cases(92.8%)cured, 5 cases(5.2%)improved, 2 cases(2.1%)ineffective, the final visual acuity of 51.6% patients better than 0.3. Of the 81 cases in the control group, average hospital stay was: 17.26±6.23d, with 69 cases(85.2%)cured, 7 cases(8.6%)improved, 5 cases(6.2%)ineffective, the final visual acuity of 39.5% patients better than 0.3. After statistical analysis, the average hospital stay, the cure rate, the effective rate and the final visual acuity in both groups showed statistically significant difference(<i>P</i><0.05). The average hospital stay of the treatment group was shorter than that of the control group, while the cure rate and effective rate and the final visual acuity was better than that of the control group.<p>CONCLUSION: Sodium hyaluronate can promote fungal corneal ulcer healing, improve the cure rate and reduce the formation of corneal scar
