    Chinese Herbal Medicine and Its Application for Female Cancer

    Chinese herbal medicines (CHMs) have been widely used to promote health and treat illnesses in daily medical care throughout Asia while mostly accepted as an alternative medical method in many nations of the western world. CHM has a unique therapeutic effect to reduce adverse effects on cancer patients caused by chemotherapy and surgery; however, we did not find any high-quality review for the claimed effects. In this review, we will summarize the history, basic theories and principles, and clinical applications of CHM for disorders, especially female cancers. Meta-analyses to evaluate the efficacy and safety of CHM in the treatment of ovarian cancer and breast cancer have been conducted. The results showed that combined CHMs and western medicines treatment (CHM-WM) had significantly relieved the symptoms and reduced the side effects after surgery and chemotherapy on both ovarian cancer and breast cancer. However, more high-quality and large-scale RCTs are necessary to confirm the efficacy and safety of CHM-WM intervention

    Detectable Anthropogenic Intensification of the Summer Compound Hot and Dry Events Over Global Land Areas

    Abstract Compound hot and dry events (CHDEs) pose an increasing threat to global warming and have received growing attention in recent decades. We conducted a detection and attribution analysis (D&A) using the optimal fingerprint technique to analyze the changes in observed CHDEs at continental and sub‐continental scales from 1961 to 2014. The responses of CHDEs changes to anthropogenic (ANT), greenhouse gases (GHG), aerosols (AER), and natural (NAT) forcings were obtained from the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project phase 6 forcing experiment. In a two‐signal D&A analysis that considered ANT and NAT simultaneously, ANT signals were robustly detected and separated from NAT in all continental domains and more than 65% of subcontinental domains (29 out of 44 domains). The trend attributed to the ANT forcing is comparable to the observed trend over domains where the ANT signal is detectable. We also conducted a three‐signal D&A analysis that regressed observation onto GHG, AER, and NAT simultaneously. The GHG signals were detectable in all continents except Oceania, and it contributed dominantly to the observed trend over 22 out of 29 regions where ANT signals had emerged. Multivariate biases correction can largely reduce the models' biases in simulating the marginal distribution and the dependence structure, which can provide a more accurate future risk of CDHEs. We found that limiting global warming to 1.5℃ rather than 2.0℃ can significantly mitigate the impact of compound events in most areas of global land, particularly in South America, Africa, and Oceania

    Considering the peculiarities of logistics in the electronic commerce (e-commerce) supply chain (ESC) and e-commerce platform’s altruistic preferences, a model including an e-commerce platform, third-party logistics service provider, and manufacturer is constructed. Based on this, three decision models are proposed and equilibrium solutions are obtained by the Stackelberg game. Then, an “altruistic preference joint fixed-cost” contract is proposed to maximize system efficiency. Finally, numerical analysis is used to validate the findings of the paper. The article not only analyzes and compares the optimal decisions under different ESC models, but also explores the intrinsic factors affecting the decisions. This paper finds that the conclusions of dual-channel supply chains or traditional supply chains do not necessarily apply to ESC, and that the effect of altruistic behavior under ESC is influenced by consumer preferences. Moreover, there is a multiparty win–win state for ESC, and this state can be achieved through the “altruistic preference joint fixed-cost” contract. Therefore, the findings of this paper contribute to the development of an e-commerce market and the cooperation of ESC members

    Impacts of Environmental Regulation on the Green Transformation and Upgrading of Manufacturing Enterprises

    Since environmental problems are becoming increasingly prominent, macro policies and social development have placed higher requirements on manufacturing enterprises to promote green transformation and upgrading (GTU) in China. Considering that different manufacturing enterprises choose different green technology innovation levels for GTU under environmental regulation, a game model between manufacturing enterprises and the government is constructed. The relationship between the green technology innovation level (GTIL) and the environmental regulation intensity is analyzed. Through numerical examples, the influences of environmental regulation and consumer preference on system decisions are further examined. Moreover, an econometric model is constructed to explore the influence that the environmental regulation exerts on the GTIL using panel data from the Chinese manufacturing industry. Our results show that the increase in environmental regulation intensity contributes to improving GTIL and promoting the GTU of manufacturing enterprises. Furthermore, as the environmental regulation is enhanced, the sales price decreases, benefiting consumers. Consumers’ preference for high-GTIL products is conducive to GTU under environmental regulation. Empirical analysis shows that there is a U-shaped relationship between environmental regulation and the GTIL. Only when the intensity reaches a threshold can the environmental regulation be beneficial to improve the GTIL and promote the GTU of Chinese manufacturing enterprises

    Traffic flow prediction under multiple adverse weather based on self-attention mechanism and deep learning models

    To improve the accuracy of traffic flow prediction under adverse weather, a deep hybrid attention (DHA) model including the traffic and weather blocks is proposed. The traffic block introduces the convolutional neural network (CNN) and the gated recurrent unit (GRU) neural network to capture the spatio-temporal rules of the traffic flow data. To consider the impacts of adverse weather on traffic flow, the weather block is introduced. The weather block utilizes the convolutional long short-term memory (ConvLSTM) neural network to extract the relationship between the weather and traffic flow data. The self-attention mechanism is embedded in the two blocks. Four cases involving rainy, foggy and windy weather are used to verify the DHA model. The experiments reveal that: the DHA model shows the excellent performance under multiple adverse weather; different adverse weather has various impacts on the rules of traffic volume and speed; the prediction accuracy of each model reduces with the increase of the severe degree of each type of adverse weather

    Association between systemic lupus erythematosus and disruption of gut microbiota: a meta-analysis

    Objective Recent studies reported that SLE is characterised by altered interactions between the microbiome and immune system. We performed a meta-analysis of publications on this topic.Methods Case–control studies that compared patients with SLE and healthy controls (HCs) and determined the diversity of the gut microbiota and the abundance of different microbes were examined. Stata/MP V.16 was used for the meta-analysis. A Bonferroni correction for multiple tests was used to reduce the likelihood of false-positive results.Results We included 11 case–control studies that examined 373 patients with SLE and 1288 HCs. These studies were performed in five countries and nine cities. Compared with HCs, patients with SLE had gut microbiota with lower Shannon-Wiener diversity index (weighted mean difference=−0.22, 95% CI −0.32 to –0.13, p<0.001) and lower Chao1 richness (standardised mean difference (SMD)=−0.62, 95% CI −1.04 to –0.21, p=0.003). Patients with SLE had lower abundance of Ruminococcaceae (SMD = −0.49, 95% CI −0.84 to −0.15,p=0.005), but greater abundance of Enterobacteriaceae (SMD=0.45, 95% CI 0.01 to 0.89, p=0.045) and Enterococcaceae (SMD=0.53, 95% CI 0.05 to 1.01, p=0.03). However, only the results for Ruminococcaceae passed the Bonferroni correction (p=0.0071). The two groups had no significant differences in Lachnospiraceae and Bacteroides (both p>0.05). Patients with SLE who used high doses of glucocorticoids had altered gut microbiota based on the Chao1 species diversity estimator, and hydroxychloroquine use appeared to reduce the abundance of Enterobacteriaceae.Conclusions Patients with SLE have imbalanced gut microbiota, with a decrease in beneficial bacteria and an increase in harmful bacteria. Drugs used to treat SLE may also alter the gut microbiota of these patients

    Objective: Th1 and Th2 cells and their associated cytokines function in the pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), but their exact roles are uncertain. We performed a meta-analysis to examine the relationship of these cells and cytokines with SLE.Methods: Multiple databases were searched to identify publications that reported the percentages of Th1 and Th2 cells and their associated cytokines in SLE patients and healthy controls (HCs). Meta-analysis was performed using Stata MP version 16.Results: SLE patients had a lower percentage of Th1 cells, a higher percentage of Th2 cells, and higher levels of Th1- and Th2-associated cytokines than HCs. SLE treatments normalized some but not all of these indicators. For studies in which the proportion of females was less than 94%, the percentage of Th2 cells and the level of IL-10 were higher in patients than HCs. SLE patients who had abnormal kidney function and were younger than 30 years old had a higher proportion of Th1 cells than HCs. SLE patients more than 30 years old had a higher level of IL-6 than HCs.Conclusion: Medications appeared to restore the balance of Th1 cells and other disease indicators in patients with SLE. Gender and age affected the levels of Th1 and Th2 cells, and the abnormally elevated levels of Th2 cells appear to be more pronounced in older patients and males.Systematic Review Registration: [https://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/], identifier [CRD42022296540].</p

    Genomic alterations of cerebrospinal fluid cell-free DNA in leptomeningeal metastases of gastric cancer

    Abstract Background Leptomeningeal metastases (LM) were rare in gastric cancer (GC), and GC patients with LM (GCLM) generally suffer from poor prognosis. Nevertheless, the clinical utility of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) was underinvestigated in GCLM. Methods We retrospectively studied 15 GCLM patients, and all patients had paired primary tumor tissue samples and post-LM CSF samples while 5 patients also had post-LM plasma samples. All samples were analyzed using next-generation sequencing (NGS), and the molecular and clinical features were correlated with clinical outcomes. Results CSF had higher mutation allele frequency (P = 0.015), more somatic mutations (P = 0.032), and more copy-number variations (P < 0.001) than tumor or plasma samples. Multiple genetic alterations and aberrant signal pathways were enriched in post-LM CSF, including CCNE1 amplification and cell cycle-related genes, and CCNE1 amplification was significantly associated with patients’ overall survival (P = 0.0062). More potential LM progression-related markers were detected in CSF samples than in tumor samples, including PREX2 mutation (P = 0.014), IGF1R mutation (P = 0.034), AR mutation (P = 0.038), SMARCB1 deletion (P < 0.001), SMAD4 deletion (P = 0.0034), and TGF-beta pathway aberration (P = 0.0038). Additionally, improvement in intracranial pressure (P < 0.001), improvement in CSF cytology (P = 0.0038), and relatively low levels of CSF ctDNA (P = 0.0098) were significantly associated with better PFS. Lastly, we reported a GCLM case whose CSF ctDNA dynamic changes were well correlated with his clinical assessment. Conclusions CSF ctDNA could more sensitively detect molecular markers and metastasis-related mechanisms than tumor tissues in GCLM patients, and our study sheds light on utilizing CSF ctDNA in prognostic estimation and clinical assessment in GCLM
