    Styrenic Polymer Nanocomposites Based on an Oligomerically-Modified Clay with High Inorganic Content

    Clay was modified with an oligomeric surfactant containing styrene and lauryl acrylate units along with a small amount of vinylbenzyl chloride to permit the formation of an ammonium salt so that this can be attached to a clay. The oligomerically-modified clay contains 50% inorganic clay, and styrenic polymer nanocomposites, including those of polystyrene (PS), high-impact polystyrene (HIPS), styrene–acrylonitrile copolymer (SAN) and acrylonitrile–butadiene–styrene (ABS), were prepared by melt blending. The morphologies of the nanocomposites were evaluated by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. Mixed intercalated/delaminated nanocomposites were formed for SAN and ABS while largely immiscible nanocomposites were formed for PS and HIPS. The thermal stability and fire properties were evaluated using thermogravimetric analysis and cone calorimetry, respectively. The plasticization from the oligomeric surfactant was suppressed and the tensile strength and Young\u27s modulus were improved, compared to similar oligomerically-modified clays with higher organic content

    Dimmable visible light communications based on multilayer ACO-OFDM

    This paper proposes a dimmable scheme for a visible light communication (VLC) system based on multilayer asymmetrically clipped optical orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (ACO-OFDM), which is able to support a wide dimming range for different illumination requirements. In the proposed scheme, multiple layers of ACO-OFDM occupying different subcarriers are combined so that almost all of the subcarriers can be used for data transmission. The polarities of different layers of ACO-OFDM are varied to obtain flexible time-domain waveform, which can fully exploit the dynamic range of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and achieve better performance. The scaling factor and modulation order for each layer, as well as the dc bias, are optimized for different dimming requirements to achieve improved spectral efficiency. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme can support communication over a wide dimming range and achieve higher spectral efficiency, compared with existing methods under different dimming requirements

    Multi-user MIMO-OFDM for indoor visible light communication systems

    In this paper, we investigate an indoor multiuser visible light communication system employing multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM). For each subcarrier in OFDM, the corresponding precoding matrix is calculated in the frequency domain to eliminate multi-user interference. The distances of the multiple transmitter-receiver links are different, which results in various temporal delays and phase differences in the frequency domain. Phase information is firstly considered, whereby complex instead of real channel matrices are used for precoding, which reduces the channel correlation and achieves better performance. Moreover, two DC bias and scaling factor calculation schemes are proposed, and their performances are compared with zero forcing and minimum mean-squared error (MMSE) precoding techniques

    Suppression of superconductivity in nanowires by bulk superconductors

    Transport measurements were made on a system consisting of a zinc nanowire array sandwiched between two bulk superconducting electrodes (Sn or In). It was found that the superconductivity of Zn nanowires of 40 nm diameter is suppressed either completely or partially by the superconducting electrodes. When the electrodes are driven into their normal state by a magnetic field, the nanowires switch back to their superconducting state. This phenomenon is significantly weakened when one of the two superconducting electrodes is replaced by a normal metal. The phenomenon is not seen in wires with diameters equal to and thicker than 70 nm.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure

    Буровая труба – важная часть в системе бурения скважин. Аналитическим методом трудно точно проанализировать вибрации буровой трубы в процессе бурения. Это можно осуществить с помощью программного обеспечения ANSYS. Посредством ANSYS было изу- чено крутильное колебание снаряда буровой трубы при условии, что глубина вертикальной скважины не превышает 2000 м. При этом не учитывалось влияние переходников и разме- ров коронок. В результате были получены законы влияния толщины стенки буровой трубы, длины удлинителя и буровой трубы на частоту трубы, а также модели первого- четвертого порядков для анализа крутильного колебания снаряда буровой трубы
