"Blank" and Love: Love in the Miniature Novels of Indonesian--Chinese Writer Yuan Ni

    Get PDF
Among Indonesian-Chinese authors, Yuan Ni is very well known. This paper analyzes her miniature novels by using Wolfgang Iser’s blank theory to explore her writing on love and the values behind it. Firstly, Yuan Ni’s view of love shows a call for genuine feelings, and the artistic blank in some of her novels leads readers to think critically. Secondly, her novels also show the notion that perfect love should be sublimated in the family, which is the result of Indonesian-Chinese women’s conscious identification with traditional Chinese ethics. The concept of family is an important point in this traditional ethical view. However, in some of her works, the novel presents blank the meaning of the text, which reflects the fact that the family, a symbol of patriarchal power, often hinders love, and this feature of the text reveals the author’s inner entanglement. Keywords: Yuan Ni, novel, Indonesian Chinese fiction writin

    Get PDF
Based on the data from 2011 to 2020, this paper constructs an index evaluation system of agricultural and rural modernization, and studies the effect and mechanism of agricultural supply chain financial development affecting agricultural and rural modernization. The following conclusions are drawn: First, the development of agricultural supply chain finance can significantly promote the modernization of agriculture and rural areas. Secondly, taking industrial structure adjustment as the threshold variable, there is a single threshold effect in the promotion of agricultural supply chain finance to agricultural and rural modernization: the higher the proportion of tertiary industry, the more significant the positive impact of agricultural supply chain finance on agricultural and rural modernization; Taking urban-rural integration as the threshold variable, its promotion effect has double threshold effect: the higher the level of urban-rural integration, the greater the promotion effect of agricultural supply chain finance on agricultural and rural modernization, but after the level of urban-rural integration rises to a certain extent, the promotion effect decreases slightly. At the same time, the promotion of agricultural supply chain finance to agricultural and rural modernization is more significant in middle and low-economic-level areas

Nonlinear Influence of Digital Economy on Rural Revitalization

    Get PDF
By measuring the level of digital economy and rural revitalization in different regions, this paper analyzes the nonlinear impact of digital economy on rural revitalization by using a panel threshold regression model. It is found that when the consumption level of rural residents and digital inclusive finance level are taken as threshold variables, the impact of digital economy on rural revitalization has single and double threshold effects respectively. With the improvement of rural residents’ consumption and digital inclusive finance levels, the digital economy plays an increasingly important role in promoting rural revitalization, showing a rising trend. Further, through grouping regression, it is found that the promotion of digital economy to rural revitalization is only significant in the western region where the economy is relatively backward, but not significant in the central and eastern regions

Based on the panel data of 30 provinces and municipalities from 2011 to 2021, this paper constructs PVAR model to study the relationship among digital inclusive finance, agricultural and rural modernization and rural residents’ income. It is found that: Firstly, digital inclusive finance is the unidirectional Granger cause of agricultural and rural modernization, and there is a bidirectional Granger causality between digital inclusive finance and rural residents’ income. There is also a bidirectional Granger causality between agricultural and rural modernization and rural residents’ income, and there is a direct or indirect influence mechanism among them. Secondly, digital inclusive finance has a strong self-enhancement mechanism, while rural residents’ income and agricultural and rural modernization have self-enhancement in a short term. At the same time, digital inclusive finance obviously promotes rural residents’ income increase, and the two factors promote each other in the short term. Rural residents’ income increase can promote agricultural and rural modernization in the short term, while the development of digital inclusive finance lags behind in promoting agricultural and rural modernization. Finally, the biggest impact of digital inclusive finance, agricultural and rural modernization and rural residents’ income comes from themselves, and the coordination among them needs to be strengthened

Digital finance is gradually becoming an important source of strength to promote rural revitalization. In order to give full play to the role of digital finance in promoting rural revitalization, based on the provincial panel data of China from 2011 to 2021, this paper constructs rural revitalization indicators and explores the effect of digital finance on rural revitalization. It is found that the development of digital finance has a significant effect on rural revitalization; Digital finance has a positive impact on rural revitalization by improving the level of urban-rural integration, promoting agricultural modernization and boosting economic growth; In high-income areas, digital finance plays a more significant role in promoting rural revitalization; The higher the level of digital finance, the better it can play a role in promoting rural revitalization

Macau leadership styles and practices: Empirical investigations on Sino-Macanese managerial preferences

    Get PDF
This study maps the theoretical and nomological network around effective leadership styles in Macau. Since the return of the Macau peninsula to China in 1999, Europe’s oldest rear window on China has undergone significant geo-economic and social transformation. Today, nearly half of the population comprise Mainland Chinese immigrants, while around seventy percent of tourists come from the inland. In light of the central government in Beijing’s plans for the Greater Bay Area, the Belt Road Initiative and the Renminbi offshore centre in Macau, which, in turn, will increase the presence of mainland senior executives in Macau, it is of paramount importance to investigate the relationship between the prevailing leadership styles and practices in Macau and the socio-cultural leadership philosophies practiced in Mainland China. Below we discuss the implications of the substantive findings for our understanding of effective leadership practices for this Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China

ALWOD: Active Learning for Weakly-Supervised Object Detection

Object detection (OD), a crucial vision task, remains challenged by the lack of large training datasets with precise object localization labels. In this work, we propose ALWOD, a new framework that addresses this problem by fusing active learning (AL) with weakly and semi-supervised object detection paradigms. Because the performance of AL critically depends on the model initialization, we propose a new auxiliary image generator strategy that utilizes an extremely small labeled set, coupled with a large weakly tagged set of images, as a warm-start for AL. We then propose a new AL acquisition function, another critical factor in AL success, that leverages the student-teacher OD pair disagreement and uncertainty to effectively propose the most informative images to annotate. Finally, to complete the AL loop, we introduce a new labeling task delegated to human annotators, based on selection and correction of model-proposed detections, which is both rapid and effective in labeling the informative images. We demonstrate, across several challenging benchmarks, that ALWOD significantly narrows the gap between the ODs trained on few partially labeled but strategically selected image instances and those that rely on the fully-labeled data. International audienceThrough semi-structured interviews with diplomats and museum communication professionals and a netnographic analysis of Weibo’s posts published by French museums between 2016 and 2017, this article provides a theoretical overview of the changes in strategic communication and French cultural diplomacy at the digital era. Why and how do French museums launch communication projects in Chinese social media? How do French museums’ communication strategies on Chinese social media contribute to the attractiveness of these museums in China’s public sphere ? Does these pratices could be seen as a form of place branding, or even track-II and cultural diplomacy of France?

Identifiable Cognitive Diagnosis with Encoder-decoder for Modelling Students' Performance

Cognitive diagnosis aims to diagnose students' knowledge proficiencies based on their response scores on exam questions, which is the basis of many domains such as computerized adaptive testing. Existing cognitive diagnosis models (CDMs) follow a proficiency-response paradigm, which views diagnostic results as learnable embeddings that are the cause of students' responses and learns the diagnostic results through optimization. However, such a paradigm can easily lead to unidentifiable diagnostic results and the explainability overfitting problem, which is harmful to the quantification of students' learning performance. To address these problems, we propose a novel identifiable cognitive diagnosis framework. Specifically, we first propose a flexible diagnostic module which directly diagnose identifiable and explainable examinee traits and question features from response logs. Next, we leverage a general predictive module to reconstruct response logs from the diagnostic results to ensure the preciseness of the latter. We furthermore propose an implementation of the framework, i.e., ID-CDM, to demonstrate the availability of the former. Finally, we demonstrate the identifiability, explainability and preciseness of diagnostic results of ID-CDM through experiments on four public real-world datasets
