    Symmetries of SU(2) Skyrmion in Hamiltonian and Lagrangian approaches

    We apply the Batalin-Fradkin-Tyutin (BFT) method to the SU(2) Skyrmion to study the full symmetry structure of the model at the first class Hamiltonian level. On the other hand, we also analyze the symmetry structure of the action having the WZ term, which corresponds to this Hamiltonian, in the framework of the Lagrangian approach. Furthermore, following the BFV formalism we derive the BRST invariant gauge fixed Lagrangian from the above extended action.Comment: 14 pages, final revised version, to appear in Mod. Phys. Lett.

    Symplectic embedding and Hamilton-Jacobi analysis of Proca model

    Following the symplectic approach we show how to embed the Abelian Proca model into a first-class system by extending the configuration space to include an additional pair of scalar fields, and compare it with the improved Dirac scheme. We obtain in this way the desired Wess-Zumino and gauge fixing terms of BRST invariant Lagrangian. Furthermore, the integrability properties of the second-class system described by the Abelian Proca model are investigated using the Hamilton-Jacobi formalism, where we construct the closed Lie algebra by introducing operators associated with the generalized Poisson brackets.Comment: 24 page

    Disentangled Code Representation Learning for Multiple Programming Languages

    Developing effective distributed representations of source code is fundamental yet challenging for many software engineering tasks such as code clone detection, code search, code translation and transformation. However, current code embedding approaches that represent the semantic and syntax of code in a mixed way are less interpretable and the resulting embedding can not be easily generalized across programming languages. In this paper, we propose a disentangled code representation learning approach to separate the semantic from the syntax of source code under a multi-programming-language setting, obtaining better interpretability and generalizability. Specially, we design three losses dedicated to the characteristics of source code to enforce the disentanglement effectively. We conduct comprehensive experiments on a real-world dataset composed of programming exercises implemented by multiple solutions that are semantically identical but grammatically distinguished. The experimental results validate the superiority of our proposed disentangled code representation, compared to several baselines, across three types of downstream tasks, i.e., code clone detection, code translation, and code-to-code search

    PTMs (posttranslational modifications) such as ubiquitylation, sumoylation, acetylation and protein methylation are pivotal modifiers that determine the activation, deactivation or subcellular localization of signaling proteins, facilitating the initiation, amplification and transduction of signaling. Accumulating evidence suggest that several key signaling molecules in Hippo signaling pathway are tightly regulated by various types of PTMs. Malfunction of these critical signaling modules such as YAP/TAZ, MAT1/2 and LATS1/2 due to deregulated PTMs has been linked to a variety of human diseases such as cancer. In this review article, we summarized the current understanding of the impact of PTMs in regulating Hippo signaling pathway and further discussed the potential therapeutic intervention from the view of PTMs and Hippo pathway

    Parental use of the term "Hot Qi" to describe symptoms in their children in Hong Kong: a cross sectional survey "Hot Qi" in children

    BACKGROUND: The Chinese term "Hot Qi" is often used by parents to describe symptoms in their children. The current study was carried out to estimate the prevalence of using the Chinese term "Hot Qi" to describe symptoms in children by their parents and the symptomatology of "Hot Qi". METHOD: A cross sectional survey by face-to-face interview with a semi-structured questionnaire was carried out in a public hospital and a private clinic in Hong Kong. The parental use of the term "Hot Qi", the symptoms of "Hot Qi" and the remedies used for "Hot Qi" were asked. RESULTS: 1060 pairs of children and parents were interviewed. 903 (85.1%) of parents claimed that they had employed the term "Hot Qi" to describe their children's symptoms. Age of children and place of birth of parents were the predictors of parents using the term "Hot Qi". Eye discharge (37.2%), sore throat (33.9%), halitosis(32.8%), constipation(31.0%), and irritable (21.2%) were the top five symptoms of "Hot Qi" in children. The top five remedies for "Hot Qi" were the increased consumption of water (86.8%), fruit (72.5%), soup (70.5%), and the use of herbal beverages "five-flower- tea" (a combination of several flowers such as Chrysanthemum morifolii, Lonicera japonica, Bombax malabaricum, Sophora japonica, and Plumeria rubra) (57.6%) or selfheal fruit spike (Prunella vulgaris) (42.4%). CONCLUSION: "Hot Qi" is often used by Chinese parents to describe symptoms in their children in Hong Kong. Place of birth of parents and age of the children are main factors for parents to apply the term "Hot Qi" to describe symptoms of their children. The common symptoms of "Hot Qi" suggest infections or allergy

    Experimental observation of topological Fermi arcs in type-II Weyl semimetal MoTe2

    Weyl semimetal is a new quantum state of matter [1-12] hosting the condensed matter physics counterpart of relativisticWeyl fermion [13] originally introduced in high energy physics. The Weyl semimetal realized in the TaAs class features multiple Fermi arcs arising from topological surface states [10, 11, 14-16] and exhibits novel quantum phenomena, e.g., chiral anomaly induced negative mag-netoresistance [17-19] and possibly emergent supersymmetry [20]. Recently it was proposed theoretically that a new type (type-II) of Weyl fermion [21], which does not have counterpart in high energy physics due to the breaking of Lorentz invariance, can emerge as topologically-protected touching between electron and hole pockets. Here, we report direct spectroscopic evidence of topological Fermi arcs in the predicted type-II Weyl semimetal MoTe2 [22-24]. The topological surface states are confirmed by directly observing the surface states using bulk-and surface-sensitive angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES), and the quasi-particle interference (QPI) pattern between the two putative Fermi arcs in scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). Our work establishes MoTe2 as the first experimental realization of type-II Weyl semimetal, and opens up new opportunities for probing novel phenomena such as exotic magneto-transport [21] in type-II Weyl semimetals.Comment: submitted on 01/29/2016.     Symplectic quantization of self-dual master Lagrangian

    We consider the master Lagrangian of Deser and Jackiw, interpolating between the self-dual and the Maxwell-Chern-Simons Lagrangian, and quantize it following the symplectic approach, as well as the traditional Dirac scheme. We demonstrate the equivalence of these procedures in the subspace of the second-class constraints. We then proceed to embed this mixed first- and second-class system into an extended first-class system within the framework of both approaches, and construct the corresponding generator for this extended gauge symmetry in both formulations.Comment: 27 page

    ab initio modeling of open systems: charge transfer, electron conduction, and molecular switching of a C_{60} device

    We present an {\it ab initio} analysis of electron conduction through a C60C_{60} molecular device. Charge transfer from the device electrodes to the molecular region is found to play a crucial role in aligning the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) of the C60C_{60} to the Fermi level of the electrodes. This alignment induces a substantial device conductance of ∼2.2×(2e2/h)\sim 2.2 \times (2e^2/h). A gate potential can inhibit charge transfer and introduce a conductance gap near EFE_F, changing the current-voltage characteristics from metallic to semi-conducting, thereby producing a field effect molecular current switch
