Sustainable Management Practices and Stakeholder Pressure:A Systematic Literature Review

Get PDF
This paper aims to summarize and analyze what is known regarding the ways in which stakeholder pressure may influence sustainable practices. Furthermore, this study extends this understanding to the development of several research opportunities for further investigation. A systematic extensive literature review was performed to investigate the relationship between stakeholder pressure and sustainable management practices. This literature review shows that organizational factors are more widely covered than the individual and macro-level factors as moderating variables, and suggests more organizational-, individual-, and macro-level factors, as well as the interaction of these factors as moderating variables on the link between stakeholder pressure and sustainable management practices. Furthermore, the use of the stakeholder theory is dominant, followed by the use of the institutional theory. The manufacturing sector is widely covered, survey methodology is extensively used, and the environmental dimensions are more addressed than the social dimensions of sustainability. The relationship between stakeholder pressure and the adoption of sustainable management practices is not obvious, due to the varied results. Therefore, it is difficult to establish a direct relationship between stakeholder pressure and the adoption of sustainable management practices. This study furthers insight into the stakeholder pressure influence on sustainable management practices by reviewing the comprehensive literature and suggesting future research opportunities

The vision and development trajectory for the twin transformation-cross-pollination between smart and circular production

In this chapter, we present a vision and a development trajectory for twinning the digital and the sustainable transformation, to both ensure a stronger push, but also to enable synergies within the two agendas. Research related to Circular Economy is presented, together with examples of how digitalization has enabled the push towards sustainability. In addition, three concepts for the vision are presented, alongside discussions related to enabling a systemic change towards sustainability, namely through creating operational value systems, enabling substitution and eco-system lock-ins. These concepts should enable a push towards resource efficiency and effectiveness, on a company, supply chain and eco-system level, as well as linking this to a digital transformation agenda.</p

Changing Foundations for Global Business Systems

No full text
Abstract: Companies are actively seeking new competitive advantages by changing the location and ownership of their manufacturing processes. This process results in increasing fragmentation and dispersion of global business systems of companies. The purpose of this paper is to identify how companies may improve the integration of such business systems. The paper draws on a case study of a Danish industrial equipment firm. The paper describes and analyzes the company's operations network configurations, which lay at the foundations of the company's global business system. It is demonstrated how the operations configurations have been changing over time and affecting the overall business system. The paper identifies the key determinants and outcomes of this change. Moreover, it proposes how the design of operations configurations can be improved through the development of a distinct systemic approach to control and coordination
