    Get PDF
金沢大学大学院自然科学研究科分子作用学金沢大学薬学部The structure of a new alkaline degration product of 1-dihydrousnic acid was elucidated as 5-acety-1,2,3,3a,7,7a-hexahydro-2,6-dihydroxy-1,2,3a-trimethyl-4-oxo-4H-inden-3,3-dicarboxylic acid (I) by chemical and spectral studies, together with X-ray analysis. The mechanism of formation of I from 1-dihydrousnic acid is discussed

Impact of heavy rains of 2018 in western Japan: disaster-induced health outcomes among the population of Innoshima Island

    Get PDF
Southwestern Japan suffered its worst rains in 2018 causing floods and mudslides, claiming 225 lives and forcing millions for evacuations. Referred as "Heisei san-ju-nenshichi-gatsugou", the disaster was the result of incessant precipitation caused by the interaction of typhoon "Prapiroon" with the seasonal rain front "Baiu". The present epidemiological study aims to investigate disaster-induced health issues in 728 residents of Innoshima island in the Hiroshima Prefecture by comparing their clinical data in pre-disaster (2017) and disaster-hit (2018) years which was obtained from annual health screening. Comparison of data showed a significant increase in the urine protein concentration in victims following the disaster. Probing further into the household conditions, showed that a total of 59,844 households were affected with water outage during the heavy rains, which was accompanied by severe damage of sewerage pipelines with complete recovery process taking two weeks. This two weeks of the crisis forced victims to refrain from using restrooms which in turn led to infrequent urination, thereby explaining the increased urine protein concentration in victims following the disaster. The present study addresses the acute health implications caused by the water crisis and serves as a precautionary measure for disaster management council to provide enhanced aftercare services in victims in further events of natural disasters

Suppression of atomic displacive excitation in photo-induced A1g_{\mathrm{1g}} phonon mode of bismuth

Atomic motion of a photo-induced coherent phonon of bismuth (Bi) is directly observed with time-resolved x-ray diffraction under a cryogenic temperature. It is found that displacive excitation in a fully symmetric A1g_{\mathrm{1g}} phonon mode is suppressed at a temperature T=9T = 9 K. This result implies a transfer of the phonon-generation mechanism from displacive to impulsive excitation with decreasing the temperature. It is comprehensively understandable in a framework of stimulated Raman scattering. The suppression of displacive excitation also indicates that the adiabatic potential surface at the photo-excited state deviates from a parabolic one, which is assumed to be realized at room temperature. This study points out important aspects of phonon generation in transient phonon-induced quantum phenomena

British Journal of Ophthalmology , bjo-2023-324225 (2024); https://doi.org/10.1136/bjo-2023-324225.Background/aims : We assessed the associations between retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and continuous measurements of oxygen saturation (SpO2), and developed a risk prediction model for severe ROP using birth data and SpO2 data. Methods : This retrospective study included infants who were born before 30 weeks of gestation between August 2009 and January 2019 and who were screened for ROP at a single hospital in Japan. We extracted data on birth weight (BW), birth length, gestational age (GA) and minute-by-minute SpO2 during the first 20 days from the medical records. We defined four SpO2 variables using sequential measurements. Multivariate logistic regression was used to develop a model that combined birth data and SpO2 data to predict treatment-requiring ROP (TR-ROP). The model’s performance was evaluated using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). Results : Among 350 infants, 83 (23.7%) required ROP treatment. The SpO2 variables in infants with TR-ROP differed significantly from those with non-TR-ROP. The average SpO2 and high SpO2 showed strong associations with GA (r=0.73 and r=0.70, respectively). The model incorporating birth data and the four SpO2 variables demonstrated good discriminative ability (AUC=0.83), but it did not outperform the model incorporating BW and GA (AUC=0.82). Conclusion Data obtained by continuous SpO2 monitoring demonstrated valuable associations with severe ROP, as well as with GA. Differences in the distribution of average SpO2 and high SpO2 between infants with TR-ROP and non-TR-ROP could be used to establish efficient cut-off values for risk determination
