The lexicon within a thematic role theory
This paper presents some hypotheses about the lexicon. As those hypotheses are included in a specific thematic role theory, I briefly outline some of the main points of this theory, which can be inserted in the field of lexical semantics (it is based on lexical items and their composition). I conclude with some arguments in favor of the inclusion of this model in a grammatical theory, using for that some empirical evidence from Brazilian Portuguese
Em defesa da categoria de voz mĂ©dia no portuguĂȘs In defense of the middle voice category in Portuguese
Middle voice represents an inflexional category of classical Indo-European languages with the function of expressing states of affairs which affect the subject of the verb or its interests. In Portuguese there is a set of predicates, formally identified by an anaphorical but non-coreferential use of the pronoun 'se', which supports the notion of middle diathesis. This paper aims at providing formal, semantic and typological evidences in order to postulate a distinction between middle and reflexive-reciprocal constructions
Unraveling the enigma: elucidating the relationship between the physicochemical properties of aluminium-based adjuvants and their immunological mechanisms of action
Abstract Aluminium salts are by far the most commonly used adjuvants in vaccines. There are only two aluminium salts which are used in clinically-approved vaccines, AlhydrogelÂź and AdjuPhosÂź, while the novel aluminium adjuvant used in GardasilÂź is a sulphated version of the latter. We have investigated the physicochemical properties of these two aluminium adjuvants and specifically in milieus approximating to both vaccine vehicles and the composition of injection sites. Additionally we have used a monocytic cell line to establish the relationship between their physicochemical properties and their internalisation and cytotoxicity. We emphasise that aluminium adjuvants used in clinically approved vaccines are chemically and biologically dissimilar with concomitantly potentially distinct roles in vaccine-related adverse events
