A Domain Decomposition Preconditioner for Hermite Collocation Problems
We propose a preconditioning method for linear systems of equations arising from piecewise Hermite bicubic collocation applied to two dimensional elliptic PDEs with mixed boundary conditions. We construct an efficient, parallel preconditioner for the GMRES method. The main contribution of the paper is a novel interface preconditioner derived in the framework of substructuring and employing a local Hermite collocation discretization for the interface subproblems based on a hybrid fine-coarse mesh. Interface equations based on this mesh depend only weakly on unknowns associated with subdomains. The effectiveness of the proposed method is highlighted by numerical experiments that cover a variety of problems
Modeling the strangeness content of hadronic matter
The strangeness content of hadronic matter is studied in a string-flip model
that reproduces various aspects of the QCD-inspired phenomenology, such as
quark clustering at low density and color deconfinement at high density, while
avoiding long range van der Waals forces. Hadronic matter is modeled in terms
of its quark constituents by taking into account its internal flavor (u,d,s)
and color (red, blue, green) degrees of freedom. Variational Monte-Carlo
simulations in three spatial dimensions are performed for the ground-state
energy of the system. The onset of the transition to strange matter is found to
be influenced by weak, yet not negligible, clustering correlations. The phase
diagram of the system displays an interesting structure containing both
continuous and discontinuous phase transitions. Strange matter is found to be

Phantom Cosmology with Non-minimally Coupled Real Scalar Field
We find that the expansion of the universe is accelerating by analyzing the
recent observation data of type \textsc{I}a supernova(SN-Ia) .It indicates
that the equation of state of the dark energy might be smaller than -1,which
leads to the introduction of phantom models featured by its negative kinetic
energy to account for the regime of equation of state parameter .In this
paper the possibility of using a non-minimally coupled real scalar field as
phantom to realize the equation of state parameter is discussed.The main
equations which govern the evolution of the universe are obtained.Then we

Differential effects of lower limb revascularisation on organ injury and the role of the amino acid taurine
Lower torso revascularisation following ischaemia results in a systemic inflammatory response. Endothelial barrier function is disrupted by neutrophil-derived proteases and oxidants. Taurine, an amino acid found in large quantities in neutrophils, is a powerful endogeneous anti-oxidant. The aims of this study were to investigate the systemic effects of reperfusion following lower limb revascularisation and to evaluate the role of taurine administration in preventing this injury. A rat model of aortic occlusion (30 min) followed by 2 h of reperfusion was used. Animals were randomised to one of three groups (n = 10 per group): control; ischaemia reperfusion untreated (IR) and taurine-treated. Taurine (4% solution) was administrated orally for 48 h prior to the experiment. Neutrophil infiltration and microvascular permeability were assessed by measuring tissue myeloperoxidase activity and wet/dry weights respectively in lung, liver, kidney, and in cardiac and skeletal muscle. Statistical analysis was by means of analysis of variance (ANOVA). Reperfusion resulted in pulmonary and renal microvascular injury as assessed by organ oedema. Hepatic tissue, skeletal and cardiac muscle were unaffected by lower limb revascularisation. Taurine was effective in preventing neutrophil-mediated pulmonary but not renal microvascular injury. These data suggest that, whilst reperfusion-induced pulmonary injury is predominantly neutrophilmediated, agents other than neutrophil-derived oxidative metabolites, capable of independently causing organ injury through direct endothelial damage, are produced during reperfusion
The contribution of cattle urine and dung to nitrous oxide emissions: Quantification of country specific emission factors and implications for national inventories

gas, nitrous oxide (N2O), and represent a large proportion of total N2O emissions in many national agricultural
greenhouse gas inventories. As such, there is much interest in developing country specific N2O emission
factors (EFs) for excretal nitrogen (EF3, pasture, range and paddock) deposited during gazing. The aims of this
study were to generate separate N2O emissions data for cattle derived urine and dung, to provide an evidence
base for the generation of a country specific EF for the UK from this nitrogen source. The experiments were
also designed to determine the effects of site and timing of application on emissions, and the efficacy of the nitrification
inhibitor, dicyandiamide (DCD) on N2O losses. This co-ordinated set of 15 plot-scale, year-long field experiments
using static chambers was conducted at five grassland sites, typical of the soil and climatic zones of
grazed grassland in the UK. We show that the average urine and dung N2O EFs were 0.69% and 0.19%, respectively,
resulting in a combined excretal N2O EF (EF3), of 0.49%, which is b25% of the IPCC default EF3 for excretal
returns from grazing cattle. Regression analysis suggests that urineN2O EFs were controlledmore by composition
than was the case for dung, whilst dung N2O EFs were more related to soil and environmental factors. The urine
N2O EF was significantly greater from the site in SW England, and significantly greater from the early grazing season urine application than later applications. Dycandiamide reduced the N2O EF fromurine patches by an average
of 46%. The significantly lower excretal EF3 than the IPCC default has implications for the UK's national inventory

RS-invariant all-orders renormalon resummations for some QCD observables
We propose a renormalon-inspired resummation of QCD perturbation theory based
on approximating the renormalization scheme (RS) invariant effective charge
beta-function coefficients by the portion containing the highest power of
=--, for SU() QCD with quark flavours.
This can be accomplished using exact large- all-orders results. The
resulting resummation is RS-invariant and the exact next-to-leading order (NLO)
and next-to-NLO (NNLO) coefficients in any RS are included. This improves on a
previously employed naive resummation of the leading- piece of the
perturbative coefficients which is RS-dependent, making its comparison with
fixed-order perturbative results ambiguous. The RS-invariant resummation is
used to assess the reliability of fixed-order perturbation theory for the
-ratio, the analogous -lepton decay ratio , and
Deep Inelastic Scattering (DIS) sum rules, by comparing it with the exact NNLO
results in the effective charge RS. For the -ratio and , where
large-order perturbative behaviour is dominated by a leading ultra-violet
renormalon singularity, the comparison indicates fixed-order perturbation
theory to be very reliable. For DIS sum rules, which have a leading infra-red
renormalon singularity, the performance is rather poor. In this way we estimate
that at LEP/SLD energies ideal data on the -ratio could determine
to three-significant figures, and for the we
estimate a theoretical uncertainty
corresponding to . This encouragingly small
uncertainty is much less than has recently been deduced from comparison with
