Composing and Factoring Generalized Green's Operators and Ordinary Boundary Problems
We consider solution operators of linear ordinary boundary problems with "too
many" boundary conditions, which are not always solvable. These generalized
Green's operators are a certain kind of generalized inverses of differential
operators. We answer the question when the product of two generalized Green's
operators is again a generalized Green's operator for the product of the
corresponding differential operators and which boundary problem it solves.
Moreover, we show that---provided a factorization of the underlying
differential operator---a generalized boundary problem can be factored into
lower order problems corresponding to a factorization of the respective Green's
operators. We illustrate our results by examples using the Maple package
IntDiffOp, where the presented algorithms are implemented.Comment: 19 page
Charm multiplicity and the branching ratios of inclusive charmless b quark decays in the general two-Higgs-doublet models
In the framework of general two-Higgs-doublet models, we calculate the
branching ratios of various inclusive charmless b decays by using the low
energy effective Hamiltonian including next-to-leading order QCD corrections,
and examine the current status and the new physics effects on the determination
of the charm multiplicity and semileptonic branching ratio .
Within the considered parameter space, the enhancement to the ratio due to the charged-Higgs penguins can be as large as a factor of 8 (3) in
the model III (II), while the ratio can be increased from
the standard model prediction of 2.49% to 4.91% (2.99%) in the model III (II).
Consequently, the value of and can be decreased simultaneously
in the model III. The central value of will be lowered slightly by
about 0.003, but the ratio can be reduced significantly from the
theoretical prediction of in the SM to , for GeV, respectively. We find that
the predicted and the measured now agree within roughly one
standard deviation after taking into account the effects of gluonic charged
Higgs penguins in the model III with a relatively light charged Higgs boson.Comment: 25 pages, Latex file, axodraw.sty, 6 figures. Final version to be

Six Months of Multi-Wavelength Follow-up of the Tidal Disruption Candidate ASASSN-14li and Implied TDE Rates from ASAS-SN
We present ground-based and Swift photometric and spectroscopic observations
of the candidate tidal disruption event (TDE) ASASSN-14li, found at the center
of PGC 043234 ( Mpc) by the All-Sky Automated Survey for SuperNovae
(ASAS-SN). The source had a peak bolometric luminosity of ergs
s and a total integrated energy of ergs radiated
over the months of observations presented. The UV/optical emission of
the source is well-fit by a blackbody with roughly constant temperature of
K, while the luminosity declines by roughly a factor of 16 over
this time. The optical/UV luminosity decline is broadly consistent with an
exponential decline, , with days.
ASASSN-14li also exhibits soft X-ray emission comparable in luminosity to the
optical and UV emission but declining at a slower rate, and the X-ray emission
now dominates. Spectra of the source show broad Balmer and helium lines in
emission as well as strong blue continuum emission at all epochs. We use the
discoveries of ASASSN-14li and ASASSN-14ae to estimate the TDE rate implied by
ASAS-SN, finding an average rate of
per galaxy with a 90% confidence interval of per galaxy. ASAS-SN found roughly 1 TDE for every 70 Type Ia
supernovae in 2014, a rate that is much higher than that of other surveys.Comment: 21 pages, 9 figures, 6 tables. Photometric data presented in this

Charmless Exclusive Baryonic B Decays
We present a systematical study of two-body and three-body charmless baryonic
B decays. Branching ratios for two-body modes are in general very small,
typically less than , except that \B(B^-\to p \bar\Delta^{--})\sim
1\times 10^{-6}. In general, due to
the large coupling constant for . For three-body modes we
focus on octet baryon final states. The leading three-dominated modes are with a branching ratio of
order for and
for . The penguin-dominated decays with strangeness
in the meson, e.g., and , have appreciable rates and the mass
spectrum peaks at low mass. The penguin-dominated modes containing a strange
baryon, e.g., , have
branching ratios of order . In contrast, the decay
rate of is smaller. We explain why some of
charmless three-body final states in which baryon-antibaryon pair production is
accompanied by a meson have a larger rate than their two-body counterparts:
either the pole diagrams for the former have an anti-triplet bottom baryon
intermediate state, which has a large coupling to the meson and the
nucleon, or they are dominated by the factorizable external -emission
process.Comment: 46 pages and 3 figures, to appear in Phys. Rev. D. Major changes are:

The Vacuum System of HIRFL
AbstractThe vacuum system of Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou (HIRFL) is a large and complex system. HIRFL consists of two ECR ion sources, a sector focus cyclotron (SFC), a separate sector cyclotron (SSC) and a multi-purpose cooling storage ring system which has a main ring (CSRm) and an experiment ring (CSRe). Several beam lines connect these accelerators together and transfer various heavy ion beams to more than 10 experiment terminals. According to the requirements of the ion acceleration and ion lifetime, the working pressure in each accelerator is different. SFC is nearly 50 years old. After upgrade, the working pressure in SFC is improved from 10-6mbar to 10-8mbar. The pressure in SSC which was built in the 1980s reaches the same level. The cooling storage ring system with a length of 500m came into operation in 2007. The average pressures in CSRm and CSRe are 5×10-12mbar and 8×10-12mbar respectively. Different designs were adopt for vacuum system of a dozen beam lines to meet specific requirement of each experiment terminal. Along with the extensive development of the heavy ion researches and applications, new accelerators of HIRFL are under construction. The vacuum system of the new machines will be designed and constructed followed the overall schedule
Tree method for quantum vortex dynamics
We present a numerical method to compute the evolution of vortex filaments in
superfluid helium. The method is based on a tree algorithm which considerably
speeds up the calculation of Biot-Savart integrals. We show that the
computational cost scales as Nlog{(N) rather than N squared, where is the
number of discretization points. We test the method and its properties for a
variety of vortex configurations, ranging from simple vortex rings to a
counterflow vortex tangle, and compare results against the Local Induction
Approximation and the exact Biot-Savart law.Comment: 12 pages, 10 figure
REVEILLE2 thermosensitive splicing: a molecular basis for the integration of nocturnal temperature information by the Arabidopsis circadian clock
• Cold stress is one of the major environmental factors that limit growth and yield of plants. However, it is still not fully understood how plants account for daily temperature fluctuations, nor how these temperature changes are integrated with other regulatory systems such as the circadian clock.
• We demonstrate that REVEILLE2 undergoes alternative splicing after chilling that increases accumulation of a transcript isoform encoding a MYB-like transcription factor. We explore the biological function of REVEILLE2 in Arabidopsis thaliana using a combination of molecular genetics, transcriptomics, and physiology.
• Disruption of REVEILLE2 alternative splicing alters regulatory gene expression, impairs circadian timing, and improves photosynthetic capacity. Changes in nuclear gene expression are particularly apparent in the initial hours following chilling, with chloroplast gene expression subsequently up-regulated.
• The response of REVEILLE2 to chilling extends our understanding of plants immediate response to cooling. We propose that the circadian component REVEILLE2 restricts plants responses to nocturnal reductions in temperature, thereby enabling appropriate responses to daily environmental changes
Revisiting the β-lactams for tuberculosis therapy with a compound-compound synthetic lethality approach
The suboptimal effectiveness of β-lactam antibiotics against Mycobacterium tuberculosis has hindered the utility of this compound class for tuberculosis treatment. However, the results of treatment with a second-line regimen containing meropenem plus a β-lactamase inhibitor were found to be encouraging in a case study of extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (M. C. Payen, S. De Wit, C. Martin, R. Sergysels, et al., Int J Tuberc Lung Dis 16:558-560, 2012, https://doi.org/10.5588/ijtld.11.0414). We hypothesized that the innate resistance of M. tuberculosis to β-lactams is mediated in part by noncanonical accessory proteins that are not considered the classic targets of β-lactams and that small-molecule inhibitors of those accessory targets might sensitize M. tuberculosis to β-lactams. In this study, we screened an NIH small-molecule library for the ability to sensitize M. tuberculosis to meropenem. We identified six hit compounds, belonging to either the N-arylindole or benzothiophene chemotype. Verification studies confirmed the synthetic lethality phenotype for three of the N-arylindoles and one benzothiophene derivative. The latter was demonstrated to be partially bioavailable via oral administration in mice. Structure-activity relationship studies of both structural classes identified analogs with potent antitubercular activity, alone or in combination with meropenem. Transcriptional profiling revealed that oxidoreductases, MmpL family proteins, and a 27-kDa benzoquinone methyltransferase could be the targets of the N-arylindole potentiator. In conclusion, our compound-compound synthetic lethality screening revealed novel small molecules that were capable of potentiating the action of meropenem, presumably via inhibition of the innate resistance conferred by β-lactam accessory proteins. β-Lactam compound-compound synthetic lethality may be an alternative approach for drug-resistant tuberculosis
Measurements of decays into Vector- Tensor final states
Decays of the into vector plus tensor meson final states have been
studied with 14 million events collected with the BESII detector.
Branching fractions of \psi(2S) \rt \omega f_{2}(1270), ,
