Generalized BF Theory in Superspace as Underlying Theory of 11D Supergravity
We construct a generalized BF theory in superspace that can embed
eleven-dimensional supergravity theory. Our topological BF theory can
accommodate all the necessary Bianchi identities for teleparallel superspace
supergravity in eleven-dimensions, as the simplest but nontrivial solutions to
superfield equations for our superspace action. This indicates that our theory
may have solutions other than eleven-dimensional supergravity, accommodating
generalized theories of eleven-dimensional supergravity. Therefore our
topological theory can be a good candidate for the low energy limit of
M-theory, as an underlying fundamental theory providing a `missing link'

On minimal coupling of the ABC-superparticle to supergravity background
By rigorous application of the Hamiltonian methods we show that the
ABC-formulation of the Siegel superparticle admits consistent minimal coupling
to external supergravity. The consistency check proves to involve all the

Pure spinor superfields -- an overview
Maximally supersymmetric theories do not allow off-shell superspace
formulations with traditional superfields containing a finite set of auxiliary
fields. It has become clear that off-shell supersymmetric action formulations
of such models can be achieved by the introduction of pure spinors. In this
talk, an overview of this formalism is given, with emphasis on D=10
super-Yang-Mills theory and D=11 supergravity. This a somewhat expanded version

On the origin of the Boson peak in globular proteins
We study the Boson Peak phenomenology experimentally observed in globular
proteins by means of elastic network models. These models are suitable for an
analytic treatment in the framework of Euclidean Random Matrix theory, whose
predictions can be numerically tested on real proteins structures. We find that
the emergence of the Boson Peak is strictly related to an intrinsic mechanical
instability of the protein, in close similarity to what is thought to happen in
glasses. The biological implications of this conclusion are also discussed by

Observation of An Evolving Magnetic Flux Rope Prior To and During A Solar Eruption
Explosive energy release is a common phenomenon occurring in magnetized
plasma systems ranging from laboratories, Earth's magnetosphere, the solar
corona and astrophysical environments. Its physical explanation is usually
attributed to magnetic reconnection in a thin current sheet. Here we report the
important role of magnetic flux rope structure, a volumetric current channel,
in producing explosive events. The flux rope is observed as a hot channel prior
to and during a solar eruption from the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA)
telescope on board the Solar Dynamic Observatory (SDO). It initially appears as
a twisted and writhed sigmoidal structure with a temperature as high as 10 MK
and then transforms toward a semi-circular shape during a slow rise phase,
which is followed by fast acceleration and onset of a flare. The observations
suggest that the instability of the magnetic flux rope trigger the eruption,
thus making a major addition to the traditional magnetic-reconnection paradigm.Comment: 13 pages, 3 figure

A study on text-score disagreement in online reviews
In this paper, we focus on online reviews and employ artificial intelligence
tools, taken from the cognitive computing field, to help understanding the
relationships between the textual part of the review and the assigned numerical
score. We move from the intuitions that 1) a set of textual reviews expressing
different sentiments may feature the same score (and vice-versa); and 2)
detecting and analyzing the mismatches between the review content and the
actual score may benefit both service providers and consumers, by highlighting
specific factors of satisfaction (and dissatisfaction) in texts.
To prove the intuitions, we adopt sentiment analysis techniques and we
concentrate on hotel reviews, to find polarity mismatches therein. In
particular, we first train a text classifier with a set of annotated hotel
reviews, taken from the Booking website. Then, we analyze a large dataset, with
around 160k hotel reviews collected from Tripadvisor, with the aim of detecting
a polarity mismatch, indicating if the textual content of the review is in
line, or not, with the associated score.
Using well established artificial intelligence techniques and analyzing in
depth the reviews featuring a mismatch between the text polarity and the score,
we find that -on a scale of five stars- those reviews ranked with middle scores
include a mixture of positive and negative aspects.
The approach proposed here, beside acting as a polarity detector, provides an
effective selection of reviews -on an initial very large dataset- that may
allow both consumers and providers to focus directly on the review subset
featuring a text/score disagreement, which conveniently convey to the user a
summary of positive and negative features of the review target.Comment: This is the accepted version of the paper. The final version will be
