    Carrier extraction circuit

    Get PDF
Feedback loop extracts demodulated reference signals from IF input and feeds signal back to demodulator. Since reference signal is extracted directly from carrier, no separate reference need be transmitted. Circuit obtains coherent carrier from balanced or unbalanced four-phase signal of varying characteristics

The hydrogen sulfide emissions abatement program at the Geysers Geothermal Power Plant

    Get PDF
The scope of the hydrogen sulfide (H2S) abatement program at The Geysers Geothermal Power Plant and the measures currently under way to reduce these emissions are discussed. The Geysers steam averages 223 ppm H2S by weight and after passing through the turbines leaves the plant both through the gas ejector system and by air-stripping in the cooling towers. The sulfide dissolved in the cooling water is controlled by the use of an oxidation catalyst such as an iron salt. The H2S in the low Btu ejector off gases may be burned to sulfur dioxide and scrubbed directly into the circulating water and reinjected into the steam field with the excess condensate. Details are included concerning the disposal of the impure sulfur, design requirements for retrofitting existing plants and modified plant operating procedures. Discussion of future research aimed at improving the H2S abatement system is also included

STARLINK: IMPACTS ON THE U.S. CORN MARKET AND WORLD TRADE

    Get PDF
StarLink disrupted the U.S. corn market during the marketing year of 2000/01 as a result of inadvertent commingling. The potential volume of marketed StarLink-commingled corn from the 2000 crop located in areas near wet and dry millers prior to October 1, 2000, is estimated at 124 million bushels. Price differentials between StarLink-free and StarLink-commingled corn existed during the early stage of the incident, but eroded quickly. While StarLink has had a negative impact on U.S. corn exports, most of the reduction in exports to Japan and South Korea during November 2000 and March 2002 is due to Japan's increased purchases from South Africa, China's decision to continue to subsidize exports, increased competition from the large back-to-back crops in Argentina, and a record Brazilian crop.Crop Production/Industries, Research and Development/Tech Change/Emerging Technologies,

High resolution imaging of the Venus night side using a Rockwell 128x128 HgCdTe array

    Get PDF
The University of Hawaii operates an infrared camera with a 128x128 HgCdTe detector array on loan from JPL's High Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (HIRIS) project. The characteristics of this camera system are discussed. The infrared camera was used to obtain images of the night side of Venus prior to and after inferior conjunction in 1988. The images confirm Allen and Crawford's (1984) discovery of bright features on the dark hemisphere of Venus visible in the H and K bands. Our images of these features are the best obtained to date. Researchers derive a pseudo rotation period of 6.5 days for these features and 1.74 microns brightness temperatures between 425 K and 480 K. The features are produced by nonuniform absorption in the middle cloud layer (47 to 57 Km altitude) of thermal radiation from the lower Venus atmosphere (20 to 30 Km altitude). A more detailed analysis of the data is in progress

Comment on ``Bethe Ansatz Results for the 4f-Electron Spectra of a Degenerate Anderson Model ''

In a recent letter, Zvyagin calculates the density of states for 4f electrons coupled to a conduction band in the framework of the Bethe ansatz (BA) solution for the degenerate Anderson model. It is claimed that the results qualitatively disagree with the results obtained for the same model but using a variational approach. Even the high energy feature in the f-spectral function near the 4f-level energy ef, i.e. the ``normal'' ionization peak (NIP), is argued to be qualitatively different in the two approaches. In the following we point out that this is not the case.Comment: 1 page, RevTeX, no figur
