Solar dynamic heat rejection technology. Task 1: System concept development

    Get PDF
The results are presented of a concept development study of heat rejection systems for Space Station solar dynamic power systems. The heat rejection concepts are based on recent developments in high thermal transport capacity heat pipe radiators. The thermal performance and weights of each of the heat rejection subsystems is addressed in detail, and critical technologies which require development tests and evaluation for successful demonstration are assessed and identified. Baseline and several alternate heat rejection system configurations and optimum designs are developed for both Brayton and Rankine cycles. The thermal performance, mass properties, assembly requirements, reliability, maintenance requirements and life cycle cost are determined for each configuration. A specific design was then selected for each configuration which represents an optimum design for that configuration. The final recommendations of heat rejection system configuration for either the Brayton or Rankine cycles depend on the priorities established for the evaluation criteria

Boys\u27 Physical Education Leadership, Facilities, and Equipment in the Secondary Schools of North Dakota

The purpose of this study is to make readily available, in helpful form all information possible on leadership, facilities, and equipment in men\u27s physical education in North Dakota schools. It was originally planned that this should be a study of women\u27s physical education as well as men\u27s, but inasmuch as the questionnaires were sent to men instructors, not much information concerning the women\u27s program was reported. For this reason it has become necessary to limit this study to men\u27s physical education only. It is hoped that this information and the manner of presentation will aid in determining what is needed to improve physical education in North Dakota and that it will be helpful to those who are planning the construction of physical education plants. Furthermore, data secured should aid in setting up better professional training requirements for physical education instructors in institutions of higher learning

Over the past decade, a considerable amount of attention has been given to federal legislation in making the federal government operate more efficiently and effectively by concentrating on Information Resource Management and Information Technology. In 1996, the Clinger-Cohen Act (CCA) was passed, creating the role of Chief Information Officer (CIO) in each agency of the Federal Government. This study assesses the impacts of the CCA on the USAF, with an emphasis on the Federal CIO Council Core Competencies. Given that this law and supporting policies have been in place for nearly six year, it would be valuable to assess USAF compliance with CCA as well as its impact on the USAF. It is intended that the information gathered may help the USAF to be a better steward of the nation’s critical information and financial resources, and to better provide critical information capabilities to the warfighter, thus ensuring information superiority over our nation’s adversaries. Findings of this survey provide evidence that the USAF is in compliance with the CCA, and identifies impacts of the CCA on the USAF. Among these impacts are: IRM responsiveness has contributed to mission accomplishment, strategic planning includes information as well as IT, Technology has improved efficiency, Baseline performance measures are more realistic, Alignment of organizational structure improves critical services, and Standardization of policy and processes optimizes IT resources

OPTION VALUES FOR PROVISIONS IN EXPORT CREDIT GUARANTEES

    Get PDF
All major exporting countries of agricultural commodities have some form of credit guarantee program. As the importance of credit programs escalates, it is incumbent on policy makers to examine the value of their program relative to those of competitors. In this study, a model based on option pricing theory was developed to estimate the value of credit guarantees extended to importers and applied to U.S. and competing countries' programs. The Canadian guarantee has the lowest implicit value, followed by the U.S., Australian, and French guarantees. French guarantees had the highest implicit value due to higher coverage for interest and freight and insurance.International Relations/Trade,
