Superconducting Pairing Symmetries in Anisotropic Triangular Quantum Antiferromagnets
Motivated by the recent discovery of a low temperature spin liquid phase in
layered organic compound -(ET)Cu(CN) which becomes a
superconductor under pressure, we examine the phase transition of Mott
insulating and superconducting (SC) states in a Hubbard-Heisenberg model on an
anisotropic triangular lattice. We use a renormalized mean field theory to
study the Gutzwiller projected BCS wavefucntions. The half filled electron
system is a Mott insulator at large on-site repulsion , and is a
superconductor at a moderate . The symmetry of the SC state depends on the
anisotropy, and is gapful with symmetry near the
isotropic limit and is gapless with symmetry at small anisotropy
ratio.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure
Theory for Gossamer and Resonating Valence Bond Superconductivity
We use an effective Hamiltonian for two-dimensional Hubbard model including
an antiferromagnetic spin-spin coupling term to study recently proposed
gossamer superconductivity. We formulate a renormalized mean field theory to
approximately take into account the strong correlation effect in the partially
projected Gutzwiller wavefucntions. At the half filled, there is a first order
phase transition to separate a Mott insulator at large Coulomb repulsion U from
a gossamer superconductor at small U. Away from the half filled, the Mott
insulator is evolved into an resonating valence bond state, which is
adiabatically connected to the gossamer superconductor.Comment: 10 pages, 13 figure
Multiport Bidirectional SRM Drives for Solar-Assisted Hybrid Electric Bus Powertrain With Flexible Driving and Self-Charging Functions
The hybrid electric bus (HEB) presents an emerging solution to exhaust gas emissions in urban transport. This paper proposes a multiport bidirectional switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive for solar-assisted HEB (SHEB) powertrain, which not only improves the motoring performance, but also achieves flexible charging functions. To extend the driving miles and achieve self-charging ability, photovoltaic (PV) panels are installed on the bus to decrease the reliance on fuelsbatteries and charging stations. A bidirectional front-end circuit with a PV-fed circuit is designed to integrate electrical components into one converter. Six driving and five charging modes are achieved. The dc voltage is boosted by the battery in generator control unit (GCU) driving mode and by the charge capacitor in battery driving mode, where the torque capability is improved. Usually, an extra converter is needed to achieve battery charging. In this paper, the battery can be directly charged by the demagnetization current in GCU or PV driving mode, and can be quickly charged by the PV panels and GCUAC grids at SHEB standstill conditions, by utilizing the traction motor windings and integrated converter circuit, without external charging converters. Experiments on a three-phase 128 SRM confirm the effectiveness of the proposed drive and control scheme
Verification of structural simulation results of metal-based additive manufacturing by means of neutron diffraction
AbstractMetal-based additive processes are characterized by numerous transient physical effects, which exhibit an adverse influence on the production result. Hence, various research approaches for the optimization of e. g. the structural part behavior exist for layered manufacturing. Increasingly, these approaches are based on the finite element analysis to be able to understand the complexity. Hereby it should be considered that the significance of the calculation results depends on the quality of modeling the process in the simulation environment. Based on a selected specimen, the current work demonstrates in which way the numerical accuracy of the residual stress state can be analyzed by utilizing the neutron diffraction. Thereby, different process parameter settings were examined
Asymmetrical domain wall propagation in bifurcated PMA wire structure due to the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction
Controlling domain wall (DW) motion in complex magnetic network structures is of paramount significance for the development of spin-based devices. Here, we report on the dynamics of a propagating DW in a bifurcated ferromagnetic wire with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA). The Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) in the wire structure induces a tilt angle to the injected DW, which leads to a quasi-selective propagation through the network branch. The DW tilting causes a field interval between DWs to arrive at Hall bars in the individual branches. Micromagnetic results further show that by tailoring the strength of the DMI, the control of DW dynamics in the PMA complex network structures can be achieved
Treatment-resistant pediatric giant prolactinoma and multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1
Background
Pediatric pituitary adenomas are rare, accounting for <3 % of all childhood intracranial tumors, the majority of which are prolactinomas. Consequently, they are often misdiagnosed as other suprasellar masses such as craniopharyngiomas in this age group. Whilst guidelines exist for the treatment of adult prolactinomas, the management of childhood presentations of these benign tumors is less clear, particularly when dopamine agonist therapy fails. Given their rarity, childhood-onset pituitary adenomas are more likely to be associated with a variety of genetic syndromes, the commonest being multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN-1).
Case description
We present a case of an early-onset, treatment-resistant giant prolactinoma occurring in an 11-year-old peripubertal boy that was initially sensitive, but subsequently highly resistant to dopamine agonist therapy, ultimately requiring multiple surgical debulking procedures and proton beam irradiation. Our patient is now left with long-term tumor- and treatment-related neuroendocrine morbidities including blindness and panhypopituitarism. Only after multiple consultations and clinical data gained from 20-year-old medical records was a complex, intergenerationally consanguineous family history revealed, compatible with MEN-1, with a splice site mutation (c.784-9G > A) being eventually identified in intron 4 of the MEN1 gene, potentially explaining the difficulties in management of this tumor. Genetic counseling and screening has now been offered to the wider family.
Conclusions
This case emphasizes the need to consider pituitary adenomas in the differential diagnosis of all pediatric suprasellar tumors by careful endocrine assessment and measurement of at least a serum prolactin concentration. It also highlights the lack of evidence for the optimal management of pediatric drug-resistant prolactinomas. Finally, the case we describe demonstrates the importance of a detailed family history and the role of genetic testing for MEN1 and AIP mutations in all cases of pediatric pituitary adenoma
Top quark pair production via polarized and unpolarized photons in Supersymmetric QCD
QCD corrections to top quark pair production via fusion of both polarized and
unpolarized photons are calculated in Supersymmetric Model. The corrections are
found to be sizable. The dependence of the corrections on the masses of the
supersymmetric particles is also investigated. Furthermore, we studied CP
asymmetry effects arising from the complex couplings in the MSSM. The CP
violating parameter can reach for favorable parameter values.Comment: 26 pages, LaTex, including 12 figures in 12 eps files. submitted to
